Wednesday Reads: Springtime for tRump…

There will be GOOSESTEPPING in the streets come springtime…yup. You can count on it…with just about as much certainty as you have that tRump is turning America into his own little authoritarian regime.

This gif is from the Wonkette site, had to grab it…it was perfect…

By now you all have heard of this shit:

Trump’s ‘marching orders’ to the Pentagon: Plan a grand military parade – The Washington Post

President Trump’s vision of soldiers marching and tanks rolling down the boulevards of Washington is moving closer to reality in the Pentagon and White House, where officials say they have begun to plan a grand military parade later this year showcasing the might of America’s armed forces.

Trump has long mused publicly and privately about wanting such a parade, but a Jan. 18 meeting between Trump and top generals in the Pentagon’s tank — a room reserved for top-secret discussions — marked a tipping point, according to two officials briefed on the planning.

Surrounded by the military’s highest-ranking officials, including Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr., Trump’s seemingly abstract desire for a parade was suddenly heard as a presidential directive, the officials said.

“The marching orders were: I want a parade like the one in France,” said a military official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the planning discussions are supposed to remain confidential. “This is being worked at the highest levels of the military.”

Shows of military strength are not typical in the United States — and they don’t come cheap. The cost of shipping Abrams tanks and high-tech hardware to Washington could run in the millions, and military officials said it was unclear how they would pay for it.

[…]

The Pentagon also confirmed the plans following The Post’s initial report. “We are aware of the request and are in the process of determining specific details. We will share more information throughout the planning process,” Defense Department spokesman Thomas Crosson said in a statement.

Contrast this news with the words spewing from tRump’s mouth yesterday:

Trump: ‘I’d love to see a shutdown’ over immigration – CNNPolitics

“If we don’t change it, let’s have a shutdown,” Trump said of the nation’s immigration laws. “We’ll do a shutdown and it’s worth it for our country. I’d love to see a shutdown if we don’t get this stuff taken care of.”

He added: “If we have to shut it down because the Democrats don’t want safety, and unrelated but still related, they don’t want to take care of our military, then shut it down. We’ll go with another shutdown.”

The orange ass was talking about immigration, (and cough… the military) but when you put it in context with the enormous cost involved in the “dictatorish” show of force parade that he has “ordered,” it truly is…fucked up. (No other way to say it.) I mean think about it. Pennsylvania Avenue will have to be redone/repaired because of the damage done to the asphalt from the heavy artillery.

More on this nut:

When asked to clarify his remarks at the end of the roundtable, Trump told reporters again that he would shut down the government over immigration.
“I would shut it down over this issue. I can’t speak for everybody at the table but I will tell you, I would shut it down over this issue,” he said, adding that if the US doesn’t straighten out its borders “we don’t have a country. Without borders we don’t have a country.”

What the hell is happening in this country?

And why isn’t anyone stopping it?

Now the cartoons:

If it is raining or it is bad weather where you are at…take care!

JJ – we actually had a tornado warning down here this morning – in February! I haven’t checked if there was damage anywhere.

If tRump throws a parade in D.C. it’ll be about as popular as his inauguration. And if D.C. didn’t like him a year ago they sure don’t like him now.

It’s cleared out of here for a few hours. There is a sun!!!

      What a great selection, JJ!

We have been having daytime 70s and evening 50s here. I thought I was going to grow another patch of lettuce and spinich, but I think its already too late. Going to go for the summer tomatos and beans. This isn’t a good thing. Last time we had this kind of weather in early Feb., it just got hotter and hotter from there.

    • NW Luna says:

So much difference in weather! Hope everyone is warm and dry and safe.

Surprise, another violent creep in the WH.

Senior White House official to resign after ex-wives’ allegations of abuse

The official, Rob Porter, served as the staff secretary, a title that belies the role’s importance in any White House — but especially in President Trump’s. Porter functioned as Chief of Staff John F. Kelly’s top enforcer in their shared mission to instill discipline and order in what had become an extraordinarily chaotic West Wing. He was the gatekeeper to the Oval Office, determining which articles and policy proposals reached the president’s hands and screening the briefing materials that his visitors shared with him.

Aides had been aware generally of accusations against Porter since late last year, White House advisers said, but learned of the specifics late Tuesday when approached by a reporter from the Daily Mail, a British tabloid, which first detailed many of the allegations. Porter’s ex-wives said they informed the FBI in January 2017 of their allegations against him while they were being interviewed by agents as part of Porter’s security clearance review. It was unclear when or whether the FBI informed the White House. The FBI did not respond to a request for comment.

Porter said on Tuesday that he would resign, after the allegations were first published, people close to him say, even as he told White House officials he had never physically abused women. But he was talked out of it by Kelly and others, according to these people, with Kelly saying he believed Porter’s denials and saw him as a valuable ally in the White House. Kelly continued to press him to stay in his job Wednesday, saying he could weather the storm, but Porter decided the controversy had become too much after the photos of his ex-wife’s blackened eye appeared Wednesday morning.

    And from another story:

Explain the Rob Porter story. Any of it.

Look at the picture. The woman’s eye socket is the sickly green-yellow of a healing bruise. Around the eyelid, and in a sickening swoosh underneath, there is the deep plum of blood pooling around broken capillaries.

Meet Cheddar Man: First modern Britons had dark skin and blue eyes

A new project from London’s Natural History Museum and University College London has revealed groundbreaking DNA results that give a much clearer image of early British inhabitants. Cheddar Man’s skeleton was discovered in 1903 in Gough’s Cave, located in Cheddar Gorge in Somerset, England. It is thought that the cool temperature in the cave helped to preserve the skeleton’s valuable DNA.

Hey, remember the woman who said there was abuse going on with women swimming…and how people know but nothing is being done? It was an interview Katy Tur was doing on one of the victims of the gymnastics abuse case in Michigan.

I’m late getting started on the post today Sky Dancers. I overslept and now I’m having trouble processing everything that is happening. It occurred to me this morning that maybe chaos and insanity was the Trump method for getting banks to bail him out of his bankruptcies. It probably worked on his father too.

    • NW Luna says:

I think we can all understand. The country’s sliding into the chaos of a banana republic. None of the normal rules of conduct seem to apply anymore to the executive and legislative branches of government.
