New Years Eve Greetings Open Thread

y; even little ol’ me. But, I did want to put up an open thread so we could share our New Year Wishes and Greetings with each other tonight on into the morning!!
I’ll be down on the Poland Avenue Wharf watching the two barges from the east and west bank of the Mississippi shoot their simultaneous fireworks display. Lama is here with his youngest son who gets to experience his first American New Year’s celebration ala New Orleans. I’ve got a big ol’ pot of hopping john bubbling away on the stove!
I’m not sure if you know, but those of us that are students of Vajryana do New Year’s (Losar) based on the Tibetan Lunar Calendar, so this month really isn’t a holiday month per se for us. However, I’m never one to keep a good party down that includes joyfulness! (Also, this one lacks crass consumerism, so I opt in.) So, here’s to all those displays of wisdom lights over the world!
May the New Year see the multiplication of people who seek and find the blessings of peace!
May the New Year bring harmony to those whose inner demons rule their thoughts and lives!
May the New Year see the brilliant play of wisdom and the skillful means necessary to ameliorate the suffering of the many!
May the New Year open the eyes of those whose lives are filled with abundance so that they are moved to share those blessings with others!
May the New Year welcome you and yours and everyone’s into the comforting arms of health, prosperity, peace and love!
May the beneficial actions of the wise and compassionate multiply!
May the obstacles to wisdom diminish!
May compassion and love surround you until whatever place you reach is where you should be!
Bernie Sanders Love Fest Open Thread

Sen. Bernie Sanders became a sensation on cable television and new media outposts like Twitter with his filibuster Friday of a proposal to extend the Bush-era tax cuts to all Americans.
Twitter lit up with highlights from Sanders’ (an Independent from Vermont) prolonged and sometimes angry speech, decrying an agreement between President Obama and Republicans to allow the breaks even for millionaires, while he said many of his constituents are going hungry.
The filibuster, from a Dutch word meaning “pirate,” has a long and not so proud history in the U.S. Senate. Those in the majority have tried for more than two centuries to make it go away. They have failed.
Vice President Aaron Burr paved the way for the filibuster with a seemingly innocuous move in 1805 to simplify the Senate’s rules. He argued that the Senate debate guidelines were too complex and that one rule, allowing “previous question” motions, should be stricken.
The previous question rule had allowed lawmakers to end debate and call for a vote. But the Senate went along with Burr and dumped the rule. It wasn’t until more than three decades later, in 1837, that a filibuster stalled Senate action for the first time.
Bernie on Tavis Smiley: The President “is not going to sell this to me’. The costs of caving-in to Republicans will become higher in the future. They’ll come back and ask for more.
From Politico: Bernie Sanders Last Stand
The left’s been looking for a new hero. Tonight they latched onto one: Sen. Bernie Sanders.
The Vermont independent took progressive fury over President Obama’s tax-cut deal with Republicans to the floor of the Senate Friday, bringing the chamber to a standstill for eight hours with a filibuster-style speech that set the liberal Twitterverse ablaze.
“Let me conclude,” said Sanders. “It has been a long day. Let me simply say that I believe a proposal that was developed by the president and the Republicans are nowhere as good as we can achieve.”

Try some of these Cajun recipes then bring them on because we know you have them!!!
Turkey Jambalaya from Epicurious
Here’s some of my things to do with leftover sweet potatoes, if you got ’em!
Sweet Potato Biscuits
1 cup flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 cup cooked, mashed sweet potatoes
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons butter (soft)
1/3 cup milk
Sift the flour salt and baking powder in one bowl. Mix the sugar and sweet potatoes in a second bowl. Add the butter and beat the mixture until it’s smooth. Add the dry ingredients to the sweet potato mixture and add the milk. Blend well.
Roll out the dough on a floured board. Cut with a biscuit cutter. Place in a buttered baking pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. I serve this with some whipped honey butter.
Du Pain Patate (Sweet Potato Bread)
2 cups grated raw sweet potatoes
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter melted
1 tsp cloves.
1 tsp salt.
2 unbeaten eggs
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup cane sugar syrup (yes, CANE SUGAR syrup … it’s a Cajun thing and we make it down here)
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1 Tbsp. orange zest.
Put the grated raw potatoes in a bowl. Ad one egg at a time and beat it real well until it’s mixed and kind of fluffy. Add the orange rind. Mix it some more. Add the sugar and beat it. Add the syrup and the melted butter. Mix. Then Mix the spices, salt and flour together then add that to the rest of the mixture. And, right, mix it again.
Okay, this is the fun part. You’re going to transfer that to a well-greased iron skillet. Bake it at 300 to 325 for an hour. You can tell it’s done when the bread pulls away from the sides. Cool it about 10 minutes before you get it out of the skillet. This is going to make a really sticky type potato bread and if you put fresh cream on top, you’ll think you just about tasted the best thing ever. Remove it in wedges with a spatula while it’s still hot.
This one is a really old recipe from a friend’s family and I had to beg for it … enjoy!!!
