Open Thread: Sperm Are People Too
Posted: March 3, 2012 Filed under: open thread, U.S. Politics, War on Women | Tags: DE city council, Loretta Walsh, ovum, pre-born child, pro-life community, sperm, Wilmington, zygote 10 CommentsThe City Council of Wilmington, Delaware is officially promoting rights of “personhood” for sperm and ova.
In a resolution, the council declared: “Laws should be enacted by all legislative bodies in the United States to promote equal representation, and should potentially include laws in defense of ‘personhood,’ forbidding every man from destroying his semen.”
The resolution passed, 8-4, Thursday night.
Loretta Walsh, the councilwoman who introduced the resolution, told the Wilmington News Journal: “What’s good for the gander is good for the goose.”
The resolution…says each “egg person” and each “sperm person” should be deemed equal in the eyes of government and given the same rights “as any other dependent minor.”
Personally, I applaud Councilwoman Walsh for her efforts to rescue millions of pre-conception babies from untimely deaths. After all, when sperm and ovum unite, a pre-born child is formed. Some people try to conceal what has happened by using the term “zygote,” but everyone knows that its really a child. Walsh is truly pro-life and a wonderful example for the pro-life community.
State legislatures around the country should pass sperm and ovum “personhood” laws.

Last week Virginia passed a little-noticed “wrongful death for the unborn” law.

The article at the above link says only the natural mother can sue, but I’ve read elsewhere that fathers could sue also.
Yup, I read that grandparents are able to sue as well…paternal grandparents.
Good idea! after all if these guys are going to quote the bible, isn’t there something in there about ‘ spilling your seed”? I say put it out there and see what the misogynist males say.
I agree. These laws should be passed in every state, and police should have to arrest anyone who kills sperm or ova. Any man caught masturbating should be put in stocks in front of the city hall!
New info out of Syria which underlines the need to Trust but Veriy, espeically concerning the videos released by “citizen journalists,” or, possibly propagandists.
Bernhard at Moon of Alabama has been looking at ways the videos coming out of Homs seem fishy in several ways. He did a long analysis of one “actor” who seemed to be playing various “characters,” one wounded in one way, another wounded in another, then also as citizen journalist.
Now, with the “activist rebels” out of Baba Amr, videos of preparations for interviews with foreign news outlets and outtakes have been found. One I watched shows that Al Jazeera was actually working with the “citizen journalist/actor” to work for greater verisimilitude.
Is CNN also involved in these “set ups” for video information — or are they being played? Watch the video with “Danny” awaiting calls from CNN — and asking for sound of gunshots. At least that’s how this appears.
It seems we civilians in the West, perhaps also our leaders, are being well and truly played by these manufactured war and field hospital scenes. Even the sound effects seem to have been added, as Bernhard notes in his post.
At one point, a little girl bandaged to appear wounded, says she’s not wounded when asked, then later asks that her face not be shown as it would give her parents heart attacks.
Now, the question is, did the Western journalists smuggled in to Baba Amr know about these charades? Were they in on the whole game? There have been questions about why the French journo Edith Bouvier, who was said to have a badly broken leg, appeared to be in no pain, laughed during her video appearance, and seemed unable to remember which leg was injured.
Having journalists part of the con is a very, very, very bad thing for all journalists who try to report from conflict areas, be the conflict weaponized or merely crowd actions. It brings into question all such reporters’ truthfulness and also makes them targets for opponents of the side they’re reporting on.
It is also possible the Syrian government has doctored the tapes they found. How could we know? Who can we trust?
View, but Verify.
That is very strange.
I have seen some twitter remarks about not retweeting messages from certain people because they are fake.
I still remember those Kuwaiti teens testifying to Congress about the bayonetted babies in the runup to Iraq War 1. Later we found out they were embassy officials kids and the whole thing was a crock.
You can almost believe nothing you don’t see for yourself, especially in war like situations. Truth really is always the first casualty.
EmptyWheel — has investigated Sen. Blunt’s use of Birth Control and concludes that he probably has. Also Blunt is on wife #2 — his mistress. Which probably suggests that he was using some sort of Birth Control with da mistress. EmptyWheel has also suggests that the sexual history of ALL Senators (48) who voted for Blunt’s Amendment.
What kind of BC did or are these Senators using and who PAID for this BC? You know just simple questions — that are not anyone’s business EXCEPT — the Senators are making their sexual details OUR business especially if we the taxpayers are paying for BC.
I was reading and summarizing EmptyWheel’s blog to my husband. He’s laughing at the stupid GOP for pissing off women — he expects that more women will be asking questions about sexual practices of the GOP nitwits.

Didn’t expect this! It’s too weak and shouldn’t get him off the hook anyway.
