Open Thread: Inside Japan’s Evacuation Zone

Via Raw Story, see what it’s really like inside Japan’s evacuation zone–empty streets, abandoned houses, ruined roads from the earthquake, packs of dogs and livestock roaming free–it’s like something out of a science fiction movie.

Japanese journalist Tetsuo Jimbo made a trip inside the restricted evacuation zone near the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant last week. At 17 km from the plant (about 2 minutes into the video), the Geiger counter alarms go off and remain on for the rest of the trip….

Jimbo terminates the mission at about 1.5 km from the nuclear plant, where radiation is thousands of times above normal.

I feel so sorry for the animals. They have no idea of the danger to them and will probably die of radiation sickness.

Planned Parenthood: House Bars Planned Parenthood From Federal Funding

I encourage everyone to click the link above and show your support for Planned Parenthood. They have a petition at the site and also a way for you to email your representatives…

You do realize that the original sponsor for title 10 was George HW Bush and it was signed by Nixon? The Republican party was solidly pro choice and pro-ERA as well as hugely supportive of Planned Parenthood for years. Just like they sold their souls on the Southern Strategy for the votes of racists, they sold their sold to religionists for votes too. There should be special hell realms for people that sell out their country to bottom feeders so they can push through laws that benefit a greed agenda.

I know, that is what really gets me about all this. It is like both parties moved way right. And all the interviews these GOP people are doing, they do not answer when asked point blank, Will you vote for a budget that allows funding for Planned Parenthood? They sell their souls and have no guts to admit that it is all about submitting to the religious freaks.

First, this is a bullshit deal. It removes virtually all stimulus spending from the budget, in exchange for the protective cover of saving Planned Parenthood.

Second, Obama is the worst goddamned negotiator in the world. Two year olds are better than him.

This deal guarantees a double-dip recession. And for what? Obama cares more about his own reelection than the fact that his inability to push strong economic policies is killing the rest of us.
