Live Blog: New York’s Primary Democratic Candidate Debate (CNN PLEASE stop this now!)

voodoodolls2Good Evening and welcome to the HooDoo that I do so well  to get this to be the last of these things!!!

Tonight’s debate will be broadcast by CNN at 9 pm EST from Brooklyn.  It’s the Brooklyn Finger Wagger vs. the C-Town Policy Wonk!  How nasty will the pokes and punches get?

… with the Democratic race dragging on into the spring, fresh tensions are bubbling up to the surface.
Pointing to issues like Clinton’s ties to Wall Street and her vote for the Iraq War, Sanders said over the weekend that when it comes to Clinton’s judgment, “something is clearly lacking.” The senator also went on to tell CNN’s Jake Tapper that he found Clinton’s recent remarks about young voters — in which she said they sometimes buy into incorrect information and “don’t do their own research” — to be “a little bit condescending.”
Things grew even more heated when the Sanders campaign put out a press release questioning Clinton’s credibility this week — an attack that was met with ferocious pushback.
“Let’s be very clear. This is a character attack. This is exactly what @BernieSanders pledged to his supporters that he wouldn’t do, ” tweeted Nick Merrill, Clinton’s traveling press secretary.

img_1635The primary will be Tuesday, April 19th and the last poll shows the momentum is in Clinton’s column.  Here are this weeks latest polls via RCP.  Notice the all have Clinton way way way up!!!

Wonkette even agrees with me.  Please let this be the last one!!!!  I can’t take his stump speech any more. I can’t take the finger wagging. I can’t take watching Hillary try to act dignified during all of this!!!

I also can’t take any more of Wolf Blitzer!

But, here I am and here we are.

WHOA HEY it’s been a minute since we’ve had one of these debate-styley things! But things have been getting super UGLY in the Democratic race, so they need to do this again, obviously. Bernie was like “I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DUEL ON ANY OF THE FOLLOWING DATES!” and Hillary was like “I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DUEL ON A DIFFERENT DAY WHEN YOU ALREADY HAVE A THING, COME AT ME, BRO!” Seriously, that is how it happened, according to Politico. Anyway, they all moved their hair appointments around on their Google calendars, so they can debate in New York City tonight.

So, this one is going to have a lot of stuff thrown at Bernie, I guarantee.  First, there’s the “corporate whore” kerfuffle.  Then there’s the law suit against Bernie’s Buddies in Gun Manufacturing by the parents and relatives of Sandy Hook Elementary School Victims.  Then, there’s the comment today about how Martin Luther King was a class warrior instead of all that racism stuff in his speeches and the marches and all that.  Then there’s Bernie and Jane’s taxes which we never See, Jane, See.

So, I’m sure all that will be on the agenda tonight.il_570xN.810139456_l8mz

Meanwhile, I just bought some wine and I’m hunkered in here!

Hang in there!  If the polls are right, the Atlantic Seaboard is about to deliver us from any more of these “debates”.  Meanwhile, I have the next little doll all lined up!!!   So stay tuned …

Live Blog: Wisconsin Returns the Vote but it could be Guam, who really knows?

download (6)Good Evening!

The results of the Wisconsin primary are coming in tonight.  It will be an extremely good lesson in why winning a small majority of the percentage of vote doesn’t translate into much when it comes to reaching the nomination goal on the Democratic side since all Democratic primaries allocate delegates proportionally.  Both candidates are likely to come away with a sizable number of delegates but not with a lead that will change the outcome of the race.

While polls have been all over the place, it appears that recent polls have Sanders out front by a small margin. Wisconsin has a huge university in Madison and a substantial white population. It is also in that part of the country generally known as the ‘Great Fly Over’.  This is the type of state that has trended more towards Sanders.  Clinton, however, is likely to hold her own in the rural and union/blue collar parts of the state as well as with the small but vital Hispanic, Native American, Black and Asian populations.  She’s also doing very well with Democrats and older people.  However, Wisconsin has an open primary.  Open primaries have been better for Sanders historically. They are also more difficult to predict.

The Republican side may be more interesting since Cruz is expected to win.  This is the type of state that also attracts the kinds of voters likely tedcruz_nitwit_2to go for Kasich.  The question is really a matter of turnout.  Here are some results of Wisconsin exit polls on issues.

In another new set of questions, nearly four in 10 GOP primary voters in Wisconsin say they’d “scared” of what Trump would do in office if elected president – hitting nearly six in 10 among Cruz and Kasich supporters. Those are far greater than the levels of concern among Trump supporters we see about Cruz or Kasich (fewer than two in 10 Trump supporters are scared of a Kasich win, a quarter for Cruz.)

Six in 10 overall are “excited” or “optimistic” about a Cruz presidency. Fewer, about half, are excited or optimistic about a Kasich presidency, declining to just over four in 10 for Trump.

Outsider

Nearly half of GOP voters want someone with experience in politics, close to as high as it’s been so far this election cycle – and previously Trump’s won only 7 percent of these voters, vs. 33 percent for Cruz and 24 percent for Kasich. About half of voters instead say they’d like the next president to be someone from “outside the political establishment.” Trump’s previously won two-thirds of outsider voters.

Deportation

More than six in 10 GOP voters in Wisconsin think undocumented immigrants should be offered a path to legal status, on track to be the highest of any state this year (it’s topped out at 59 percent in Virginia). Only a third support deporting undocumented immigrants, fewer than in previous primaries. Deportation voters have been a strong group for Trump in previous primaries; Cruz beat Trump in recent contests (North Carolina, Missouri and Illinois) among the larger group that favors a path to legal status, and Kasich won them in Ohio.

Two news stories may start to have an effect from now until the California primaries.  The first is the release of the DC Madam list of phone numbers.  It seems to indicate that Cruz may have a DC madam issue.   Here are  the vitals of the  “John of Interest”:

 “1/26/2006,2:59,PM,GRANDPRARI,TX,214,616-3080”

The news today is filled with the interview given by Sanders to the NYDN. Sanders appears to be completely confused by the process of federalDunce Cap2 regulations and oversight as it pertains to Wall Street and Financial Institutions. I always knew he sounded vague on details but this interview shows his ignorance.   This is about as bad as recent Trump interviews.  Both appear big on their vision but extremely stupid on policy details and the workings of government.  Trump could be excused as a outsider if he were running for lower office.  Bernie, however, is a Senator.  We shouldn’t have to direct him to School House Rock for Lessons.  This is Chris Cillizza writing for WAPO.

There’s more — lots more — including an exchange over what law, exactly, Wall Street executives broke during the economic collapse and how Sanders would actually prosecute them. But the two passages above give you some idea of how the bulk of the interview went: the Daily News pressing Sanders for specifics and asking him to evaluate the consequences of his proposals, and Sanders, largely, dodging as he sought to scramble back to his talking points.

For Sanders’s critics — including Hillary Clinton — the Daily News interview is the “ah ha!” moment that they have been insisting will come for Sanders, a time when his pie-in-the-sky proposals are closely examined and found wanting. Sure, free college tuition sounds good, but how, exactly, do you pay for it? And, yes, breaking up the biggest banks seems appealing — particularly if you saw “The Big Short” — but (a) can you actually do it? and (b) what does it mean for all the people those banks employ?

A large part of Sanders’s appeal to the throngs who back him is his insistence that we are in need of a political revolution. And, for those people, the Daily News interview will be much ado about nothing. But what the interview exposes is that once the revolution happens there will be lots of loose ends to tie up. Loose ends that Sanders either hasn’t grappled with — or doesn’t want to.

CfPg8Y2WEAEQojSAs for all those geniuses like Tim Robbins who insist we’re Guam, look at this:

Despite winning Mississippi’s Republican presidential primary by double digits, Donald Trump could turn Mississippi blue for the first time in 40 years, according to a Mason-Dixon poll released Tuesday.

So, we just have to sit through the next few weeks until the huge, diverse states get their chance to close the deal.

Meanwhile, I’d just like to state that We are ALL Guam now!!

Live Blog: Republican Town Hall Zone Extreme Wrestling Edition The Talkie in Milwaukee!!!!

trump-wwe

Good Evening and Welcome to yet another Live Blog!

What exactly will happen when Donald Trump and  Ted Cruz get a chance to air the acrimony between them in a town hall setting tonight in Milwaukee is any one’s guess,  My guess it that it will be Extreme Wisconsin!  Yes, it’s a live blog on The Talkie in Milwaukee!  CNN’S Anderson Cooper will moderate. Ohio Governor John Kasich–card boy for the evening–also continues his attempts to remain relevant.  The Town Hall comes a week before Wisconsin’s April 5th primary.
Trump and Cruz are in the midst of the campaign’s most bitter, personal fight. It started when Trump blamed Cruz for an unaffiliated super PAC’s ad featuring a nearly naked Melania Trump, without any evidence that Cruz was behind it. Then Trump attacked Heidi Cruz.
It’s gotten bad enough that Cruz wouldn’t say in an interview with CNN’s Sunlen Serfaty on Monday whether he’ll still back Trump if he wins the Republican nomination.
I’m not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my family,” Cruz said. “Donald Trump is not gonna be the nominee. We are gonna beat him for this nomination.”
Trump, meanwhile, has threatened lawsuits over the Cruz campaign’s success in picking up 10 extra delegates in Louisiana, even though Trump actually won the state.
cruzjpeg-6080818af218b6feThere are several issues that will be looming in the air. The question is if the topic will come up.  Topic number 1 is the National Enquirer rumors about Cruz’s extramarital romps.donald-trump-sumo-300x170

The National Enquirer accused Ted Cruz of having five mistresses, John Kasich somehow managed to offend both the overeducated and the undereducated, and Donald Trump’s campaign manager has been charged with assaulting a journalist. Expect roughly zero of those things to be mentioned tonight if all goes according to plan.

Tonight’s questions will be coming from The People™ so we can safely bet on three things: 1) Donald Trump will accuse anyone giving him anything approximating a tough question as being a Republican establishment plant, 2) Cruz will answer the question he wished he was asked rather than the one he’s actually asked, and 3) Kasich’s answers will be roughly 80 percent less exciting than the list of side effects you hear during tonight’s drug commercials.
cruz-wwf-FILLIBUSTER-1Topic Number 2 is the misdemeanor battery charge against Trump Campaign Aid Corey Lewandowski.  Will this story have legs?

Nearly a month of jousting on social media culminated Tuesday in the arrest of a top Donald Trump presidential campaign aide on misdemeanor battery charges following a March 8 incident involving a reporter.

Michelle Fields, then with the online Breitbart News Service, alleges that Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski forcefully grabbed her at a news conference at Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter.

Lewandowski — who has denied wrongdoing and who the Trump campaign said will plead not guilty — turned himself in to town police just before 8 a.m. Tuesday, in what Jupiter Police Chief Frank Kitzerow described as “a very straightforward procedure.”

Lewandowski was issued a notice to appear on a misdemeanor battery charge. The New York City resident is expected in Palm Beach County Circuit Court May 4.

Fields filed a report with police within a week of the incident. On Tuesday, town police released surveillance footage of the alleged battery they said corroborated Fields’ claims, prompting them to file the battery charges.

Hang in here with us if you can stomach it!   We’ll bring the smelling salts.  They’ll bring the EXTREME!!!

Live Blog Mega Tuesday: North Carolina, Florida and Ohio called for Hillary and Florida Called Trump! Rubio Quits!

11897ef54d36fd78b5a7c5d6762a95c4Good Evening!

We continue our live discussion on the the returns from some of the biggest states’ primaries.  We’re still waiting on Ohio (R), Missouri, North Carolina (R) and Illinois.

Rubio is shellacked in Florida then quits! Top Conservatives are in an uproar and–according to Politico–are looking for alternatives to the Republican front runner.

Three influential leaders of the conservative movement have summoned other top conservatives for a closed-door meeting Thursday in Washington, D.C., to talk about how to stop Donald Trump and, should he become the Republican nominee, how to run a third-party “true conservative” challenger in the fall.

The organizers of the meeting include Bill Wichterman, who was President George W. Bush’s liaison to the conservative movement; Bob Fischer, a South Dakota businessman and longtime conservative convener; and Erick Erickson, the outspoken Trump opponent and conservative activist who founded RedState.com.

This is basically the same group of people that turned the Republican Party into the dream base for that kind of candidate. WTF did they expect?  So, Rubio just quit.  Kasich Ides-of-March-appears to be alive in Ohio but that doesn’t really mean much.

“We will still be rich, and we will still be powerful, but we will not be special,” Rubio added after conceding, citing the legacy of Pilgrims, enslaved people and immigrants as key to an American common culture. The question now is where our common culture will head after the divisions of this election. Will the fault lines that have riven the electorate be healed by any one leader from any one party? On top of that, Rubio’s concession speech raises the question we’ve mused about occasionally here at FiveThirtyEight: whether there could even be a split in the Republican Party. People from many other nations are used to multiparty coalition governments. It’s clear we have more political wings of the electorate in America today than we have parties, but our system is hard-wired — for now — to remain firmly two-party.

No wonder this is being called Mega Tuesday!

For Donald Trump’s Republican rivals, it could be their last chance to stop his march toward the nomination, as the first winner-take-all states begin to vote. Florida Sen. red-ceramic-popcorn-bowls78122Marco Rubio is trying to topple Trump in Rubio’s home state; a loss would likely prove fatal for Rubio’s campaign. Ohio Gov. John Kasich is trying to fend Trump off on his home turf, with seemingly more success. Meanwhile, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz hopes he can grow his share of delegates and continue to make the argument he’s the only candidate who can catch Trump.

On the Democratic side, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders hopes his surprise win last week in Michigan means he can make inroads with other Rust Belt voters in Ohio, Illinois and elsewhere. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would like to blunt Sanders’ newfound momentum and notch wins in the Midwest.

Coming close no longer cuts it on Tuesday, at least for Republicans. The biggest prizes of the night, Florida and Ohio, are winner-take-all contests. For Republicans in the rest of the states and Democrats in all their contests, delegates will still be awarded proportionally.

And they just called Ohio for Hillary!!!!!

BYE BYE BERNIEBOTS!!!

Hillary is about to speak!!!

GET READY TO RUMBLE  STRUMP!!

Live Blog: Live Blog Republican Debate Hell Realm

174832_600Good Evening!

Well, if last night’s Democratic Debate wasn’t enough over kill for you, tonight’s Republican debate should do you in.

The debate is hosted by CNN and takes place in the battleground state of Florida which is basically Rubio’s Last Stand or (hmmm)  the Rubiocon.  Did that come off more like a convention for dimbulbs or as I intended?

Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, John Kasich and Marco Rubio will face off at CNN’s presidential debate on Thursday night in a state that could make one of the four men virtually unstoppable — and spell doom for another.

Thursday’s debate here comes just five days ahead of the next week’s “Super Tuesday 3,” when there are more than 350 delegates up for grabs, including in winner-take-all contests in Florida and Ohio.

Both Trump and Rubio are predicting that they will be victorious here in the Sunshine State, and fully aware of how much is riding on Florida. For Trump, a win here would fuel his growing momentum and further grow his delegate lead; for Rubio, losing his home state could be the death knell for his campaign.

Cruz and Kasich will also take the debate stage at a crucial moment in their campaigns. Cruz is aggressively trying to convince the Republican Party to coalesce around him, arguing he is the only candidate other than Trump capable of reaching 1,237 delegates; Kasich, who still has not won a single state, is eying his home state of Ohio with fresh optimism after a new poll this week showed him ahead of Rubio nationally. A Fox News poll released Wednesday showed Kasich leading Trump in Ohio, but the front-runner topping Rubio in Florida.

How will Little Marcio and Lying Ted stand up against Big Donald? Also, is this just an opportunity for Kasich to apply for the VP slot?563822808191e.image

A CNN/ORC Pol has Trump and Clinton leading in Florida and Ohio. There is less likely to be Michigan-like sampling mistakes in these states because of neither are completely open states.

Donald Trump is leading two of his Republican presidential rivals in their home states, topping Sen. Marco Rubio in Florida and Gov. John Kasich in Ohio, new CNN/ORC polls show.

Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, is far ahead of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in both states.

In Ohio, Trump holds 41% to Kasich’s 35%, with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in third at 15% and Rubio in fourth with 7%.

And in Florida, Trump holds 40% to Rubio’s 24%, with Cruz at 19% and Kasich at 5%.

flat,800x800,075,t.u3This debate could be ugly.  Here’s our check off list per Gizmo.

The nuanced language and posture of each candidate.

Each candidate’s stated position on national security.

Dangerous rhetorical slip ups that could tilt the public’s perception.

Cruz’s aggressiveness towards Trump.

Rubio’s decision to dial back his negative attacks on Trump.

Underhanded compliments.

Zest for life from any of the four potential nominees.

Illness resulting from a grueling campaign schedule.

Statements about immigration.

The amount of perspiration coming from each candidate.

Hillary’s tweets during the debate.

Every time Cruz looks directly at the camera.

Zealous fans of establishment candidates in the audience.

Oligarchy.

Discussion of gun deaths in America and around the world.

International trade agreements.

Any direct attacks on Bernie rather than Hillary.

Cautious wording about deportation of undocumented immigrants.

Killer apps.

Interest in anything besides yelling.

Loud cheers for Kasich on moderate policy positions.

Love.

Every time Ted Cruz, a sitting Senator, says the word “establishment”

Racist stuff and all that.

Okay, that wasn’t serious. Well, kinda sorta.  Let’s try that again.images (7)cruzzodiacjpg-69dac784e8d1b2f9

Here’s the information on how to watch the Zodiac Killer  Senator Ted Cruz and the others debate.  If the others are still alive after Ted’s Dominionist Demons get to them.

Tonight’s Republican debate will air on CNN. But don’t worry: If you don’t have cable, you’ll still be able to tune in — an online live stream will be free and available to all at CNN.com. The network has said the event will kick off at 8:30 pm Eastern in Miami, Florida.

This debate is the final one before a crucial day of voting in the GOP race on Tuesday, March 15. Five states — Florida, Ohio, Illinois, North Carolina, and Missouri — will go to the polls that day, and about 15 percent of overall Republican delegates will be up for grabs. Even more importantly, both Florida and Ohio allot all their delegates to whichever candidate comes in first, so Donald Trump has a big opportunity to expand his already sizable delegate lead.

Trump also has the chance to knock Marco Rubio and John Kasich out of the race, which he’d likely do if he beats each man in his home state. And he could well pull it off. Polls show Trump up big in Florida and neck and neck with Kasich in Ohio.

Rubio’s campaign appears to be in free fall lately — his performance in Tuesday’s elections was simply disastrous, and there’s been increasing speculation that he’ll drop out of the race soon. This debate is likely his last chance to turn his prospects around.

Do you think I’m tired of these freaking things yet?

So, here’s some good stuff to cheer you up about last night’s miserable excuse for a panel of human beings/journos asking questions of 19575025-mmmainDemocratic Presidential Candidates.

From Wonkette:

what the hell did we just watch?!

Dear Univision: Show Us On The Doll Where Hillary And Bernie Hurt You“Interrumpiendo La Vaca MUUUUUUUUUU!!!!”

It wasn’t just the questions themselves, either. Remember when Evan made that hilarious interrupting cow en Español joke yesterday? Yeah, so did the Univision debate moderators, apparently, because they spent the entire night doing it, repeatedly cutting off both candidates halfway through (not unreasonably long!) responses. Any time Bernie and Hillary started to go back and forth on a subject — y’know, to have a fucking debate — all three moderators brusquely attempted to force them to move on. At two separate points, Ramos told Bernie “You have 30 seconds,” then tried to cut him off before he hit 15. Even Hillary looked like she wanted to say “For fuck’s sake, let the man speak.”It wasn’t just that they were interrupted, either, it was how relentlessly dickish the moderators were about it. Four separate times (three for Bernie, one for Hillary), the candidates had clearly finished speaking, but the moderators made it a point to snap “YOUR TIME IS UP” anyway. So That Was The Most Badly Moderated Debate We’ll Ever See, Right?

God, we hope so.

From WAPO:

Please make these debates stop. I’m not having fun any more. Please let me out of this deep well. And stop giving me lotion. I don’t want any more lotion. I just want to go one night without watching a dang debate. Here is my recap of the last one. Won’t that suffice?

If not, here is the Wednesday night Univision/Washington Post debate summarized for those of you who were not unexpectedly trapped when helping a seemingly friendly stranger move a large unwieldy piece of furniture into a van and forced to watch these debates FOREVER PLEASE HAVE MERCY SEND SNACKS AT LEAST.

Clinton: Thank you for having me. I’ve been looking forward to this debate.

Maria Elena Salinas: Secretary Clinton, why don’t people trust you?

Clinton: Maybe it’s because I just said that I was looking forward to this debate, which is either a bald-faced lie or a sign that I am some kind of a sociopath. We had one of these three days ago. Why would we have another one now? Did you just want to torment me by putting me in another situation where a man makes unrealistic promises and waves his arms while I have to smile and look unruffled, all the while living with the knowledge that somehow he was what the people of Michigan wanted, not me? What does he have that I do not have? Does this answer your question?

Salinas: Maybe?

Salinas: Secretary Clinton, why don’t people like you?

Clinton: HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO ANSWER THAT

SERIOUSLY

Ladies and Gentlemen!  Start your popcorn poppers!!!
