Will tonight be any better or will Jack Tapper out dud the Chuck Todd? The first night didn’t got so well … or says us all and The Atlantic: “CNN Was Ill-Equipped for This During the debate it hosted yesterday, the news network made its best effort to convert discussions of policy into the thing it knows best: punditry.”

The melodrama, it would turn out, was fitting. Throughout the debate, the first of a two-night doubleheader set at Detroit’s Fox Theatre, the event’s moderators—Jake Tapper, Dana Bash, and Don Lemon—did what the network’s trailer suggested they would: They asked questions that might turn this fight for the heart of the party into a plain old fight.

One of their questions: “Senator Warren, you make it a point to say you’re a capitalist. Is that your way of saying you’re a safer choice than Senator Sanders?” Another: “Congressman Ryan, are Senator Sanders’s proposals going to incentivize undocumented immigrants to come into the country illegally?” Another: “Congressman O’Rourke, you live near the U.S.-Mexico border in El Paso and disagree with Mayor Buttigieg on decriminalizing the border crossings. Please respond.” The chyrons gave away the game: “QUESTION: Congressman Delaney, do you think Sen. Warren’s wealth tax is a fair way to fund child care and education?” Here was another: “QUESTION: Sen. Klobuchar, who are you referring to when you say candidates are making promises just to get elected?”

Let’s get READY to RUMMMMMMMBle!!!!

I just agreed with Andrew Yang of all people. If we got the cost of health insurance off of employers they’d hire more people and it would be cheaper for every one!!!!

    • NW Luna says:

Yes. They could raise wages, too. Also there’d be more small businesses and livable freelancing since people wouldn’t be worried about going out on their own without health coverage.

Did I hear Biden say that with his plan there would be a $1,000 co-pay?

    • dakinikat says:

Yup. I have insurance…ask me if I can really use it?

      • NW Luna says:

The plans I’ve had in the last ~10 years, at two large employers, have all had yearly deductibles of $2,000. I’d love to have only a $1,000 deductible for the year.

        • bostonboomer says:

He said co-pay, but for a huge number of people, even a $1,000 deductible would mean not going to the doctor.

          • NW Luna says:

Who’s got these plans that have such cheap deductibles? I do not see those offered except by Microsoft or Amazon. The plans that have low deductibles have such high premiums you end up paying about the same out of pocket. I used to work for the State of Washington and had a $2,000 deductible in addition to premiums, plus you always have some co-pays on meds. Government jobs may have used to come with good healthcare benefits but they sure don’t these days.

“You’re dipping in the koolaide and you dont even know the flavor” go corey!!! Lol

Booker and Castro are looking good. Poor Joe is showing his age. Kamala needs to calm down as she is beginning to sound like Hillabrand who comes across as shrewish.

I do like Inslee who has no chance.

    • dakinikat says:

Hoping we have a no go Joe

    • NW Luna says:

Sigh. I do really like Inslee because he’s got a proven track record of successful action. I originally wasn’t that interested in him — yeah, he’s a good liberal but I didn’t think anything special (we have a lot of liberal politicians here on the Left Coast, lol) until I looked closer at his record and compared that to the other candidates. Suing Trump (and winning multiple times), protection for women’s bodily autonomy (using those words and not just “right to choose”), gun control, anti-pollution ordinances, measures to help salmon and orca, clean energy, first public healthcare plan in the whole US, $15 minimum wage, fastest-growing jobs in the state are in wind power, first to speak out against Muslim ban, welcomes immigrants and tells Trump to send them here when Trump threatens to, speaks to climate change hurting POC more so than whites, is a multi-term Representative and two-term Governor.

But he is an older white man (yes I’d prefer a woman), and from the non-California part of the West Coast, and somehow no one pays attention to his qualifications and record when they can fawn over Mayor Pete from a smallish town with no real large-scale accomplishments and there are a bunch of other male candidates but with no real qualifications or records.

Hope Inslee gets a Cabinet position. I joke that Kamala or Elizabeth should create a new Cabinet-level Climate Change department. Seriously, climate change affects housing, labor, education, health, economics. We need coordinated action.

Meanwhile, the level of attention paid by the average voter is such that the WaPo think they have to fact-check Cory Booker’s “claim” that the US spends more on healthcare than any other country on Earth. We all know that’s true, but apparently many people don’t know that. Wish they’d also add that our health status measures rank way down there close to the bottom when compared with European and many other countries. We pay the most and get the least.

      I’m going to bed.

This morning a caller on progress radio called in with a laundry list of disqualifying arguments against Kamala Harris, there was general agreement until he got to the “bad judgement” for believing Dr Christine Blasey-Ford about Brett Kavanaugh.

I was already shaking my head because every point was a triviality and a Repulsican talking point. The host finally realized she was being trolled after the caller brought up the Kavanaugh hearings, but when are we liberals going to stopped entertaining all this hyper-scrutinized bullshit when the right wing applies ZERO scrutiny to their side?

Why even let them talk about whether or not Kamala smoke weed or whether she really listened to Snoop in college or who she dated and how old they were or whether or not she pushed back hard enough on marijuana laws, or even if she supports Medicare for all, Obamacare Plus or a new system that eliminates for profit insurance, THE GOVERNMENT IS IN THE HANDS OF IGNORANT RACISTS!!!!

Kamala waffles a little on the best path to universal coverage, Elizabeth is awkward, Corey said “Dippin’ in the kool-Aid” when the actual phrase in the hood is “All up in the Kool-Aid”…I literally heard that very complaint on the radio. Corey was apparently insufficiently authentic. STFU!

We are going to “Beauty Contest Rules” ourselves into a second term for Don Cheeto Hairleone. I am sick to death of all the nitpicking of style points and zingers when President Racist vomits drivel into the microphone and on to Twitter around the clock.

We have to stop buying into the distractions and ratfuckery coming from the alt-right and corporate media.

They are not our friends. They will breathlessly cover the horse race, who is momentarily ahead by a nose and totally ignore the fact that one of the jockeys is shooting the other goddamned horses.
