Live Blog/Open Thread: ABC News New Hampshire Republican Debate

I just noticed there’s a GOP debate tonight. Why is the RNC hiding it on a Saturday night?? Are they trying to making things easier for Marco Rubio or what? /snark

I don’t know how many of you plan to watch it, but here’s a fresh thread just in case. And Bernie Sanders is going to be on Saturday Night Live later on. I know everyone will want to tune in for that. /snark x 2

ABC News:

ABC News is unveiling its candidate lineup for Saturday night’s Republican presidential debate in Manchester, New Hampshire.

The network will extend invitations to the following candidates:Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Marco Rubio, Dr. Ben Carson, former Gov. Jeb Bush, Gov. Chris Christie and Gov. John Kasich.

The debate is slated for Saturday, Feb. 6, and coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. It will be moderated by “World News Tonight” anchor David Muir and Chief Global Affairs Correspondent and co-anchor of “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” Martha Raddatz.

ABC News will be hosting the debate with the Independent Journal Review, and in partnership with the Republican National Committee. Additional questions will come from WMUR political director Josh McElveen and conservative journalist Mary Katharine Ham.

Why do the Republicans get special right wing questioners? Aren’t the regular corporate frauds good enough?

So go ahead and document the atrocities–if you dare to watch! Live stream at ABC News. You can also treat this as an open thread to discuss whatever you wish.

You might be right. I’m reminded of a robot I gave my nephew once for Christmas several years ago. When it would run into something it would say “Resetting direction”. It seems like Rubio was stuck in a very small cul-de-sac. (BTW I did incur the displeasure of the parents.)

  64. janicen's avatar janicen says:

I was a little unwell last night, it may have been something I ate, so I stayed up a little longer than I normally do and I was watching SNL. Last night was the first time I remember seeing SNL show a clip of something that actually happened in the news that same evening rather than do a skit about it. On Weekend Update they showed the Republican candidates making their entrances onto the stage of the debates and how Ben Carson screwed it up and all of the hilarity that followed. It was unbelievable. Did anyone else see that? If I find a clip of it I’ll try to post it. What a cluster fuck!

    • William's avatar William says:

Janice, I hope you feel better soon.

I have seen many awful Republicans in various campaigns, but this group is the worst, in all respects. It is like some science fiction movie showing a devolved species. And one of this group is inevitably going to be nominated. Watch for their nominee to be completely cossetted by the handlers, and communicate to the voters only through staged rallies and billions of dollars of ads. The effort will be to attempt to demonize Hillary to such an extent that their candidate wins by default, since he surely cannot win on any merits. She will rise above it, however. But it’s going to be a Republican campaign so far removed from anything substantive or communicative, as to be unsettling in itself.
