Top Romney Surrogate John Sununu Says Obama Lost the Debate Because He’s “Lazy”

Nasty, evil troll John Sununu once again does Mitt Romney’s racist dirty work:

From Politico:

“What people saw last night, I think, was a president that revealed his incompetence, how lazy and detached he is, and how he has absolutely no idea how serious the economic problems of the country are, and how he has failed to even begin to address them,” Sununu — a top Romney surrogate — said on MSNBC Thursday.

“I think even the liberal press reacted with shock at this revelation, and I find it fascinating now this morning, after they’ve slept, to watch them all scrambling around to clean up the mess the president left on the floor last night,” Sununu said.

It’s time for the media to force Mitt Romney to own up to the racist dog whistles his campaign has been using for months. John Sununu is a disgrace. No self-respecting media outlet should ever allow him on the air again.

This is an open thread. Do with it what you will.

That bastard is despicable! I completely agree he should not be given air time to spew his racist venom.

  4. dakinikat says:

What an ugly little man! The networks should boycott him frankly! The NAACP should call MSNBC out! It should call Fox out too even though it would do now good since they live off of race baiting.

Obama campaign raised more than $150 million in September!

The Obama campaign set a new monthly fundraising record for the 2012 election cycle, taking in more than $150 million in September as supporters rallied behind the president in the final phase of the election, according to people familiar with the totals.

The September total far surpasses the $114 million raised in August, when the Obama team snapped a three-month streak in which it was outraised by Republican challenger Mitt Romney. At the time, the $114 million was the most the Obama campaign had collected in any one month in the 2012 election season. The most the Romney campaign has collected so far was $111 million in August.

  6. Pat Johnson says:

Sununu gets away with it just as does for Donald Trump.

It works because it appeals to those who they know will respond.

Nothing works better than suggesting that Obama is nothing more than a modern day “Stepin Fetchit”, lazing around the White House and showing no interest in leading.

The racial components in this season’s election campaign are right out there in the open and apparently embraced by the MSM as being worthy of debate.

Sununu has been lazying around with the yachting class for the past 40 years. One look at him SCREAMS Lazy. He’s literally a FAT cat who’s made his living sucking up to whoever in his party has the power!!! Why couldn’t Sununu show some class instead of hopping onto the racism train? He couldn’t because he has NO CLASS. Anyone with even half a brain sees his lazy screed as in-your-face racism and those who don’t see or hear it have made the conscious choice not to because they’re eating at the same shit buffet.

    • I agree Pat, all the loud mouth a-holes get away with horrible comments.

  7. pdgrey says:

Here is something we can do, Let’s get a list of networks and set up one of those protests. That was not his first time Sununu has done this, vomiting shit. “He’s not American.” If I knew how to start it I would. So how do you do it?

As a Black woman, I find the notion that someone calling Barack “lazy” is racist. This post is pretty much meaningless and the sort of thing that makes me roll my eyes and say, “White people.” I came here because I was helping a friend gather reactions to the debates last night and I thought “Sky Dancing, that’s a blog by some of the ones fighting the good fight in 2008.” Instead you’re pushing the notion that to criticize Barack is racist. Barack is lazy. Sununu’s right. That’s why he wouldn’t work with Congress. That’s why he’d rather golf and play basketball. Bush was lazy too.
    Everything’s not about racism.
I’m sorry to see that this is what Boston Boomer now has to offer. I remember strong posts by her at The Confluence.
For any wondering, I support Jill Stein and I’m a Green (married to a Democrat). I think a lot of White people thinking they’re proving something — how ‘evolved’ they are? — with their ‘defense’ of Barack. Maybe you’re proving it to each other. But this Black woman’s rolling her eyes and thinking, “Isn’t their something more important they can write about?”
    Good luck with your discussion.
If you’re looking for a topic worthy of discussion, last week the New York Times reported Barack’s in negotiations with Iraq to send US troops back in. Or you could explore Michael Gordon’s new book (written with the retired general) about how the White House overturned the will of the Iraqi people and invalidated the 2010 elections in order to give Nouri al-Maliki a second term. How does rejecting a free and fair vote promote democracy? It doesn’t. Again, these are topics worth discussing. Topics that have a body count.
    Big Bird? Not so much.

    • bostonboomer says:

Why are you referring to me in the third person as if I’m not here?

This post doesn’t suggest that criticizing Obama is racist. I criticize him. IMO, calling a black person “lazy” is an obvious dog whistle. Apparently you think I can’t say that because I’m white? Well I disagree. I know racism when I see and hear it.

As for your suggestions, perhaps you should use them at your own blog or on your Facebook page.

      • pdgrey says:

Sorry bb, I didn’t mean to take over the blog owner’s position, But I am just pissed today and that was just pure agitation. No one here “spreads out” to churn the I don’t like you people anymore meme. So I am a bitch today, 2 glasses of wine last night, dental appointment this morning and I now know I have a severe root canal infection instead of a cold. Surgery Monday, so, shit shit shit!

Romney Surrogate John Sununu Calls Obama ‘Lazy’

Former Governor of New Hampshire and Bush appointee John Sununu appeared on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports and called President Obama lazy.

      Yes he did.

      And guess what?

      It’s a dog whistle and it’s racist.

    • peregrine says:

Ann, we hear racial dog whistles because, as white commenters, we know how Republicans, and all other cowards, send these messages without publicly saying what they really think about blacks, browns, and women, but their party members know, and we know. Romney saves what he really thinks about the 47% in an exclusive fundraiser with some of his high rolling supporters. Maybe it’s you who doesn’t understand whites as well as we do and the shenanigans that they pull to desperately return us to the 1950s when white males, or the patriarchy, if you like, felt most comfortable and exclusively powerful. The PA voter ID law, that has been deferred, is a patent example of racism, ageism, and poor-hatred. We are against these obviously devious acts of voter fraud. We believe in calling out racism, ageism, sexism, and voter oppression and if you don’t like it don’t click on this blog…because we aren’t going to quit. Maybe one day the scales will fall from your eyes.

And just to add, I have NO idea what happened during the “break-up” and I don’t give a shit. At first, not understanding, I tried to be neutral. That didn’t last long. So sorry about your father, pd.

I’m not through, Ann Wlison, with the white face avatar, I’m white, white white white white and Cree Indian you better hurry and call Scott Brown. Sorry if I have upset people.

    • ANonOMouse says:

“I came here because I was helping a friend gather reactions to the debates last night and I thought “Sky Dancing, that’s a blog by some of the ones fighting the good fight in 2008”

OH c’mon Ann, surely you don’t think we buy that, do you?

“Instead you’re pushing the notion that to criticize Barack is racist. Barack is lazy. Sununu’s right. That’s why he wouldn’t work with Congress. That’s why he’d rather golf and play basketball.”

Excuse me Ann, do you think we weren’t watching those battles in the Congress? You can’t sell that RF’er pile of misinformation here. I’ve been watching president’s for nearly 7 decades and I’ve never seen a POTUS age as dramatically in 4 years as Barack Obama. That’s stress and honestly I don’t know why anyone would want to be POTUS.

And no one here is pushing the notion that to criticize Obama is “racist”, he gets criticized here frequently, if you read here you’d know that. But we KNOW racism when we see it and hear it. For what it’s worth, Ann, you don’t have to be black to see or hear racism. In fact I’d venture to say that racist code words are better heard by whites than by people of color. What we’re acknowledging here, and rightfully so, is that John Sununu and Newt Gingrich and Little Ricky Santorum and a host of other TP/GOP SURROGATES have been dog whistling for over a year and Romney has joined in frequently. I’ve been involved in politics since the Civil Rights movement and I’ve never heard a surrogate for a presidential candidate call a sitting president “lazy”, NEVER!!! The word lazy served no useful purpose, other than to play to a stereotype. He could have said unprepared, in fact many of us said that he sounded unprepared, or not on his game or flat footed, or weak or any of 100 other words, but LAZY? WE GOT THE MESSAGE, and so did you.

In case you don’t realize it Ann, we’ve had plenty of presidents who loved their golfing or other exercise routines. Bill Clinton jogged everyday which to my mind is an exercise equivalent to a daily game of BB. President’s do many things to relieve stress. Dwight Eisenhower played golf over 1000 times during his presidency, more than any POTUS on record. I never heard anyone call Ike lazy. So shame on Sununu and shame on you or anyone who willfully ignores the dog whistling by the good old white boys.

    • Pilgrim says:

I too was wondering why calling Obama lazy is racist or dog-whistle or whatever, especially since Obama himself, when interviewed in the White House by Barbara Walters and asked what he considered his main fault, unhesitatingly answered “laziness.”

I’m white. I consider laziness to be one of my worst faults. I work against it. I’m sure Mr. Obama does too.

      • dakinikat says:

Would you say the same thing if he called a joe liebermann miserly or hillary clinton bitchy or used some other stereotypical label on any other group? Would he call Scalia greasy? Please. You can attack some one’s job performance or policies without conjuring up words historically used to debase some one’s race. Should he call Barney Frank swishy would you consider that ok?

      • ANonOMouse says:

I think some folks are missing the point and that point being that it is SURROGATES of the candidate and the candidate himself that are dog whistling.

I’ve questioned Obama’s laid back way and wondered many times aloud and to myself if he might be toking, which to my way of thinking is no different than a martini. But I’M NOT A SURROGATE WHO’S REPRESENTING AND MESSAGING FOR A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE ON NATIONAL TV.

Everyone who’s reached puberty recognizes racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, anti-semitic code words and John Sununu, ROMNEY SURROGATE, chose that word instead of unprepared, because the word “unprepared” wouldn’t resonate with the target audience.

      • Seriously says:

It’s just that “lazy” is kind of like “shiftless.” It’s a loaded word and it’s Sununu’s job to know that and find a more effective way to communicate his point. I do agree with Mona though that 4 years into a Democratic Administration it seems unfortunately that seemingly we’re mostly forced to run on the equivalent of “dog on top of car” or whatever, but….

      • ANonOMouse says:

I agree we have much bigger fish to fry, Now if the suckup, lazy frat boys named Sununu & Gingrich will get off the stage and stop whistling and flashing racist blow torches at the POTUS and the office of POTUS, we may be able to get through this.

      • Seriously says:

“I think only Hillary/Gillibrand/Liz Warren/Coakley et al every really get sent to the principal’s office for not reining surrogates in.”

As the magic 8 ball likes to put it, it is decidedly so. 😉

      • Seriously says:

SpongeBob is wise and a philosopher. Tartar Sauce shall ever triumph over weak sauce.

    • Alibe says:

I have to agree. Obama is lazy. George Bush and he have the same problem. They were in over their heads and could only golf, basketball, ride bicycle etc. It has nothing to do with race. I just hate this sensitivity to someones race or gender or whatever to the point that they become untouchable as far as criticism. I have always said that Obama is the third term of GW Bush. They both just wanted to be President, not do anything as President. Bush just ceded the job to Cheney. Obama gives the work to whomever will do it. Neither can take any criticism. The two greatest nights on TV were the nights when Stephen Colbert confronted Bush and when Romney confronted Obama. They both had escaped needed criticism. Bush because of Cheney’s ability to intimidate, and Obama because of the threat of being called a racist. We all need to get over that. I figure for every racist that would not vote for Obama because of race, there are two voters who vote for him because of race. Neither is helpful. Cut the whinning about race, gender, etc. John Sununu is an ass, but sometimes he is right about somethings.

  10. roofingbird says:

BB, you said that Obama talked 4 minutes more. Do you or anyone know how that was counted? Did it include the time where Romney was overtalking him?

    • bostonboomer says:

No, I don’t know. I just heard that on MSNBC last night.

    • pdgrey says:

I thought the same thing, Was it the time appropriated that was measured? And not the talk overs, and we sure had those. I will say, Romney was like, vomit, it couldn’t be stopped.

    • RalphB says:

It defies all logic and reason for that to be true. I don’t know why anyone would fake it but it’s unbelievable compared to what I saw with my own eyes.

  11. ecocatwoman says:

Post racial? It’s obvious that isn’t the case. Both the “lazy” and “the mess he left on the floor” are typical of the racist epithets used against African Americans since the dawn of slavery. It’s disgusting regardless of whose mouth this racist bull$hit spews from. But I think many of us here have been saying for months – racism is why Obama has not run away with the poll numbers. The Right is only comfortable with field or house “coloreds”, not an uppity one like either Barack or Michele. Sununu is a racist a$$hole.

  13. bostonboomer says:

Reuters Ipsos poll finds that after the debate, Romney gained with Republicans and Obama gained with Independents.

Twenty-seven percent of those surveyed said the debate had prompted them to see Romney in a more positive light, while 19 percent said it caused them to view him more negatively and 40 percent said it did not change their opinion.

Obama did not appear to suffer any damage. Fifty-four percent said the debate did not change their opinion of the president, while 16 percent said their opinion had improved and 18 percent said they viewed him more negatively.

Obama’s favorability ratings remained unchanged, as 56 percent said they viewed him favorably and 44 percent said they viewed him unfavorably. His standing improved among independents by 8 percentage points.

Romney appears to have made his greatest strides among his fellow Republicans – a development that could help his fundraising and get-out-the vote efforts in the final weeks of the campaign.

Forty-six percent of Republicans said their opinion of Romney was “very favorable” after the debate, a gain of 10 percentage points.

    • RalphB says:

Why am I not surprised? I imagine those independents didn’t like Rmoney’s wild ferret performance. In the NYT stuff last night, that came through from people at a debate party in Ohio for independents. They questioned everything Rmoney said and didn’t believe him.

      • bostonboomer says:

It’s ironic that the Republicans loved Mitt’s performance, considering he threw most of the Republican platform under the bus.

      • The Republicans just like that their guy got to say whatever he want unchallenged. It’s the oligarchy’s platform, anyway…they just do different flavors, D and R.

I’m voting Obama and all, but this is a tortured logic choice on my part as y’all know. I didn’t come to this place lightly, and I’m still tempted to vote Jill Stein in spirit

I prefer the memes you start, BB. I guess I’m just not a fan of that writing style… It’s great he’s broken through the mainstream with memes, though!

      • RalphB says:

    • RalphB says:

      I like this comment.

I did not realize until now there were two debates last night. One where Romney lied his teeth out and looked scared, and the other one where Romney was so wonderful. I saw the one where Romney was his usual pathetic self, spewing trash, but offering no solutions.
My favorite part of the debate I saw?
When something fell behind Romney and Obama during the debate. Romney turned around and had a “I just messed my pants, which way to the exit” look on his face. Obama was not scared at all.
Yea, Romney is a real tough guy.
