GUNFIRE IN EGYPT NOW

A pro-Mubarak demonstration has converged in Alexandria with protesters wishing him out. There are reports of stones tossing and gun fire. The army is circling the crowd in an attempt to intimidate the crowd. More shots fired on the Streets of Alexandria. AJ is speculating that the gunfire is a psychological tactic. The army is clearly firing in the air according to AJ journalists on the ground.

I really have to wonder what kind of background this provides to the upcoming US Presidential statement on Mubarak’s speech.

Many protesters from both side are holding ground in the heart of the square and are not disbanding.

Yes, it could have been a peaceful transition, but those in the WAR industry don’t want to let go of profits, just as Hosni Mubarak doesn’t want to give up his Dictatorial Rule against the Egyptian people.

Here is a tweet from time which says volumes albeit in humor:

      Mubarak’s Message

Shorter Mubarak (with some poetic license about ulterior motives):
      1. A lot of naive but earnest young people are in the streets.
      2. Those young people were quickly exploited by political forces (i.e. those who don’t adore me).
      3. I’m going to investigate those political forces. A lot.
      4. Oh, and I almost forgot, I’m not going to run for president again.
      5. Did I mention that I was going to investigate those “political” forces who are trying to run me out of town?
      6. I am a man of the military–so you should be worried that I’m going to have them shoot you if you don’t calm down.
      7. Oh, and about those “political” forces: I’m going to spend the last months of my service “investigating” them–I mean, really investigating them, gouging the truth out of them–with extreme prejudice…which should be sufficient time for me to throw them all in jail and maybe torture them.
      8. Then again, if it isn’t sufficient time to rid our great nation of these horrid pests…well, who knows, a guy can change his mind about not running for president again, can’t he?

Apparently the U.S. envoy told Mubarak to step down now, and he refused.

I don’t believe that, Obama is too status quo, just look at his support for the Patriot Act, the continuation of Gitmo, the ‘argument to the court for the right for his assassination program:

Obama argues his assassination program is a “state secret”

      BY GLENN GREENWALD
      (updated below)

At this point, I didn’t believe it was possible, but the Obama administration has just reached an all-new low in its abysmal civil liberties record.

  3. CNN is AWFUL. I flipped it on now and Wolf is running two headlines, one about the angry crowd and the other headline is “MUBARAK WILL STEP DOWN” with “won’t seek re-election” in smaller print underneath.

    • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

CNN’s cost cutting in its real news bureaus and prepping of spokesmodels for various groups is paying off well, isn’t it? I nearly died laughing watching Piers Morgan interview Anderson Cooper last night. Which of these guys knows anything about Egypt?

      • They must have got complaints or someone in their newsroom noticed…. they’ve changed the headline from “Mubarak Will step down” to “Mubarak PLEDGES to step down”

    • TheRock's avatar TheRock says:

Propaganda is such an ugly thing…..

    • zaladonis's avatar zaladonis says:

Wolf is horrendous, I really can’t watch him.

    • I don’t have any gripe with Nic Robertson and Wedemen on the ground, but Wolf and his newsroom stink.

Wolf has become increasingly sensationalized over the years and seems like his spot at CNN is in constant jeopardy or something, his hype and propaganda in covering the Egyptian protests is a true disgrace.

  4. NOW when it comes time to take credit….Obama is coming to make a big breaking statement after Hillary had to do everything for him for a week.

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

After Hillary had to mouth the stupid administration line for him….

      • jillforhill's avatar jillforhill says:

Hillary does the research, the paper, footnotes, and highlights and Obama presents it and basks in all the glory. This has been happening since the first day she became SOS. Obama watches basketball while Hillary is in the libary.

The same thing happened in Iran. As soon as it first happened Hillary came out strong for the people of Iran, but Obama’s frat buddies did not like that so she had to take back her statement and within a few hours after she did the frat buddies released Hillary’s first statement as Obama’s statement. Hillary than looked like a fool, because the frat buddies could not make up their mind on what they wanted to do in Iran.

Direct quote from Glenn Beck today … yes I was channel surfing.

“There’a an alliance between the left and the Islamicists.”

    • Woman Voter's avatar Woman Voter says:

Oh, that must be, because we are all writing about how we want to wear complete burkas and be wife number 7… Glenn Beck has lost the plot and is trying to fear monger so that people are kept down and never have a chance to move up in life.

    • there is an alliance between Glenn Beckistan and oppression of tyranny and of want: Glenn Beckistan would cease to exist without them.

    • mablue2's avatar mablue2 says:

I actually watched the show live online yesterday (please don’t ask what’s wrong with me because I don’t know). This is just great:

This is is just one fuse away from running amok.

      • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

This guy barely got out of high school, spent most of his life in a cocaine and alcohol induced haze which had to cause brain damage and trying to recover from his mother’s suicide. Why do people take his chalk board antics seriously? He’s a walking advertisement for better mental health care.

      • Glenn Beck is an insult to the mentally ill. He’s just a bastard.

      • mablue2's avatar mablue2 says:

I can’t believe anyone would take this guy seriously. Btw I believe we would be a better country without the likes of Beck.

      • jillforhill's avatar jillforhill says:

The best one is when he tells the story of how Obama became president.

Beck said that Obama’s mom got a loan from a bank in Arkansas where Bill was governor and Hillary helped with mirofinancing for women. They became friends and that Hillary only ran for president because she had to,but Hillary and Bill really wanted Obama to win so they could control him and that is why he brought back so many Clinton advisors. Beck had two chalkboards with pictures, lines and diagrams all over the place and the audience he had was nodding in agreement. He then brought in one of his friends to confirm what he said.

      • mablue2's avatar mablue2 says:

        J4H,
you just made me want to watch that particular show. This is beyond the craziest of Glenn Beck’s stuff. Who thought Beck could crazy it up a notch?

I need to find that show.

      • jillforhill's avatar jillforhill says:

        Mablue,

It was a thing of beauty. He hates Hillary with a passion. At least once a week he will play a part of something Hillary said say she is an evil progressive and wants all the babies killed because she supports planned parenthood. Yet,he never mentions that abortions went down during the Clinton years.

    • minkoffminx's avatar Minkoff Minx says:

@ Dak: The crap from beck, about left and Islamicist. Yup, I heard that too.

@Mablue, He had that up again today…like schooling the idiot masses.
