Live Links: How’d Voting Go?
Posted: November 2, 2010 Filed under: Live 44 CommentsI’m going to stop to vote on the way home from the University today. I have a big presentation so I’m busy at the moment but looking forward to tracking the results with you later today!
Hopefully, some of us can make a difference some where!!!
What’s on your Voter’s Agenda and Mind Today?

Hi, Dak, good luck with your presentation!
I’m sure you’ll do fine!
Honk! Yea, go and most importantly have fun.
Hi dak – what is the title of your presentation?
I told a friend just yesterday that the only “continuing education” I am receiving is from your economic posts.
Well that isn’t quite true – I attended a seminar on bedbugs 10 days ago.
Empirical studies in Optimum Currency Areas … hows’ that for supremely boring?
Who are you giving the presentation to?
Panel of econ and finance professors and doctoral students.
If its your idea of fun that is all that matters.
I have a soft spot in my heart for academics as I have often dated from that pool.
Guess I was always hoping something would rub off. So far, not so much…
P.S. I am getting a little worried – my donation through paypal (10/28 or 29) has not hit my bank account yet. Maybe I did something wrong. I don’t use paypal much. I will keep watching.
Donation for what?
(Are you the Dee from TC?)
Yes I am the Dee from TC.
A donation to kat, of course.
See the “Make A Donation” button up on the left? I used it but so far my bank doesn’t know it. Do you know how long it takes for paypal to post now?
I hadn’t seen that donation thing. I’ll put one through and let you know but I’ve never had a problem with Paypal before.
And hi! Glad to see you here.
It can take a couple of days. I know when I used to fund my paypal account they said it could take from 3-5 business days.
Haven’t seen it Dee.
I’m oddly excited about my research agenda.
Very disheartening to vote here in the land of Joe Wilson and Jim DeMint, but I did what I could. Turnout seems to be fairly high, due to local referendums I would think.
Wanted to chime in and wish you success on this website. Looking forward to checking in on all the discussion.
FEDEX is delivering my new harddrive tomorrow!! I should get some MoJo back shortly.
CNN’s Dana Bash announced “for those who may not know, tomorrow begins the 2012 campaign!”
Um, no, Dana. That began months ago.
But thanks for the Breaking News.
Have I mentioned we need a better set of journalists latley?
Seems Rand Paul is the new senator from KY. It’s going to be a long night.
I found voting very depressing. I couldn’t bring myself to vote for Deval Patrick, so I voted Green. At least I was glad to vote for Martha Coakley for Attorney General.
Yup. I voted for 3 Greens, about 4 Repubs (all women), and the rest Dems. Like you, I had a couple of candidates that I was happy to vote for.
I was the only one at 5 pm for the two precincts that vote at my fire house. I’m not sure what that says for Democratic turn out at all. Maybe every one voted early. The post voting poller for the media ignored me. Both precincts are predominately black so usually I can see black voter turnout first hand. The Baptist Church polling place on Elysian Fields looked busy. That’s the mid city 7th Ward. I’m get text messages from the NAACP. They’re concerned about voter intimitation or at least that’s what their texts are about. It’s like bring a friend, you have a righ t to vote and here’s where to call if any one gets in your face. I’ve gotten two text messages today from them.
I voted a couple hours ago. My precinct was full. I don’t recall it this full since 2008. Didn’t have to wait on line to prepare my paper ballot but I did have to wait on the line to input my ballot. Overall, it took about 15 minutes.
My neck of the woods is evenly split between D’s and R’s, so it’s impossible to link turnout to which party had the edge until some exit polling is done. But, since the polls will be closed here soon at 9, we should know soon enough about the local results.
As I mentioned on Saturday, there were 10 seas open. I voted three Green and the rest Dems (including the judges and there were a ton of those to vote for) 2 of whom are incumbents with 5 first time running Dems.
I voted Green for Gov. Didn’t vote for Cuomo as he is an austerity pol who upfront said he was going to cut vital social services which will hurt a lot of people like Christie’s crap cuts is hurting lots of people in New Jersey. He had my vote up until I heard him in the debates. But, it’s highly unlikely he will lose. Same for Schumer.
I voted Green for the person running against Schumer.
I was proud to vote for Gillibrand. She’s a good and decent Liberal woman in the Hillary mold and we’re lucky in NY to have someone like her to vote for. And, I consider Gillibrand an up and coming one in that league. If HRC ran again for POTUS, I would love to see Gillibrand partner her as VP. Although two women and both New Yorkers on one ticket is probably unlikely (frankly more unlikely that they are both from New York than they are both women: I think people are ready for an all woman ticket after Bush and now Obama whether or not the boyz club in charge wish it and bless it so).
BTW, I don’t know how much discretion HRC has over her travel schedule but I was hoping she was traveling overseas this week. And, so it’s great to see her doing such good work especially in Cambodia. Just very happy HRC is out of the country right now given the thumping Dems might take tonight. I know she won’t run against Obama in 2012 (which I think is the best thing to do or not to do). Unless he bows out. I do think she will run again in 2016. And, that’s just not wishful thinking even though it is that. 🙂 😉
sounds like a strategy!!!
It’s already late here and I’m falling on my desk, but I’m still trying to find out as much a possible before going to bed.
Do we have any news yet? Any major surprise? Has anything already been announced?
Say hello to Senator Rand Paul and returning Senator Dan Coates. Indiana is really going Republican. Ohio’s looking that way too.
Rand Paul won? Easily? We”re really off to a crazy start.
I can”t believe Russ Feingold is going down…
They just called Ohio for the Republican and Florida looks like Rubio has it.
Rand…good grief.
Hoo boy!
The last polls I saw from WI were totally depressing. What’s the probability that Russ survives?
Wisconsin polls haven’t closed yet.
And once this depressing election day is past, fun times right around the corner courtesy of the Cat Food Commission:
Why stop there? Raise it all the way!
I think the retirement age is absolutely the one thing these creeps have to say away from.
Krugman had a great piece about that sometime ago. Raising the retirement age isn’t gonna hurt the high caliber white collar crowd, but how about blue collar workers? A construction worker at 67? Assembly line worker at 65?
What are these people talking about?
Not to mention that those people are likely to be fired anyway when they reach, oh, age 55, say. Today’s corporate CEOs don’t want to pay the few extra dollars to keep the experienced workers that are actually far more productive than younger, untrained workers. So then what are you supposed to do when you’re 55 and no one wants to hire you? Ten years of trying to gut it out is bad enough, but twelve years? Look out Medicaid and Food Stamps–they’re going to be a lot of people lining up for benefits.
I thank chaos that I work for a small, successful company which prides itself on its “family” vibe. Apparently I’ll be working till I’m 100 so it’s nice to know they’ll probably keep me around.
I think that the government to give companies tax incentives for retaining employees. Older employees cost more than younger ones, their salaries are higher, they start using their health insurance more, etc. Providing incentives to employers to retain older employees would level the playing field.
But see, that’s exactly what they’ll do, like happened in the 80’s with jobs.
The blue collar families will suffer first, and the white collar, most of them won’t notice. And then it’ll be their turn, and they don’t protest, they don’t picket because they are better than that working class stuff…
Well they may as well. I mean, at this point it seems they’re just raising it enough to keep up with wage increases of the middle class.
I already have tabs open for the Chicago Tribune and my county clerk’s election information page. I’ve learned from experience that if you don’t keep the info sites open and available, later on in the evening you can’t even log on.
Kentucky elected its first openly gay mayor.
Finally! 1 bright spot in all of this !!! I am so happy to hear some good news!
That is AWESOME!!! Do you have a link or a name of the new mayor? This is the first I’ve heard of it.
WaPo is calling FL for Rubio.
O’Donnell loses.
Rand Paul wins.
I wonder if Rand Paul will be appointed to a series of committees of one?
