Live Blogging All Day: Souls to the Polls!

voting-for-hillary

Hello Nasty Women and Bad Hombres!   Did ya vote yet?

Well, after an exciting morning without electricity, I wandered on down to the Poland Avenue Fire station known as OFD Engine 24 and Ladder 4. I voted for Hillary!!! So, here’s my white pant suit look and a shot of the ninth ward, ninth precinct Souls standing in line for the Polls.

The gentleman signing in lives two doors down from me! He’s not getting around like he used to when I first moved to the kathouse over 16 years ago but he managed to vote!!   I actually talked to another black man a bit younger than me that said he hadn’t voted since high school! That means he skipped electing President Obama but made it here to vote for Hillary!  Every one here in New Orleans is standing in the longest lines we’ve ever seen and to my knowledge the old Morial/Landrieu machine is not up and running for anything!

The most fun pictures are coming from Pant Suit Nation where I’m seeing the selfies being taking of mothers taking their young daughter to the polls.  We have a subchapter for Louisiana now and I’m seeing kids from all over the state pressing the button for their moms!

I’ve cried watching live video coming from Susan B Anthony’s grave. Lots of stickers and women paying tribute to this great woman! See that video on BB’s post right before this one!

I’ve laughed watching Donald Trump get boo’d at his local polling place so thought I’d let it give you a good laugh too!  I’ve shared it below!!!

I’m just so excited about today! Can you believe after all these years we’re finally here together and doing all this?

So, how was your voting experience?

Let us know!!!

We rarely get any of the national political ads here, but today – on MSNBC the Clinton campaign is throwing everything our way. First the Trump hit ads and then the GOTV “Roar” ad on a loop. (I think I’ve seen one Trump ad in 6 months). Clearly, she has the money and is going all out.

    • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

Thank goodness! I finally saw this stupid trump Ad with some one who is supposed to be hillary destroying emails from some PAC. That is total desperation at thi point!!!

My experience was a good one – the gal behind me had her two kids with her, a 9 year old who told me all about how they ‘voted’ in her classroom – and for the whole school’s vote – Trump was the winner, but her mom said “there was a whole bunch of kindergartners voting and probably didn’t know who they were voting for. The kids were going into the booth with mom. I had a 20 minute wait at 10:00 am.

That was great. I loved all the audience reactions.

A friend was looking over my shoulder as I posted on the previous thread before realizing that a new thread was starting here. She urged me to bring it to this new thread as she found it moving and oh so true. So here it is:

I know I’ve posted this before but it is even more fitting now and Gabriel Garcia is more than likely somewhere smiling broadly, remembering that he said “It’s men who are the romantics and who go off and do all kinds of crazy things.

The only new idea that could save humanity in the 21st century is for women to take over the management of the world. I believe that male hegemony has squandered an opportunity of 10,000 years. We men have belittle and ridiculed feminine intuition and on the other hand, we have historically sanctified our ideologies, almost all of them absurd or abominable. The masculine power structure has proved that it cannot impede the destruction of the environment, because it is incapable of overcoming its own interests. For women, on the other hand, preservation of the environment is a genetic vocation. The reversal of powers is a matter of life or death.” – Gabriel Garcia Marquez, author.

I drove around here, Eagle, and Boise…………lots of polling stations open, and no long lines.

Lol. I’m waiting for Trump’s lawsuit of all 50 million of us Hillary voters… tomorrow!

I had a pleasant short 20 minute voting experience Oct. 28th. I have my filled-out sample ballot for a keepsake of this historical date. My only slump in my conviction of a Hillary win was caused by Comey’s October surprise letter.

I live in a battleground state where we’ve had close to 45 visits from HRC and the groping one. I’ll be happy with much less attention in 2020. The lasted groper tv ad is cartoon like counting all the HRC “baggage” in cars rounding the White House entrance circle, Benghazi. Really stupid!

May it soon be over and we can say goodbye to Trump, his family, Kellyanne, Boris and the rest of the thugs.

No presidential candidates visited our state. Neither did their surrogates, except Pence ’cause he lives here. He didn’t campaign.

We’re that manufacturing state on the border of Ohio, btw. We just see planes overhead going from the Buckeye State to Iowa and wave.

  10. Valhalla's avatar Valhalla says:

I didn’t have to wait at all here in Mass. Neither did my mom, who lives in a different place. It’s hardly representative (and it was mid morning so not as busy). But I do think it’s a shame it’s so easy to vote in my highly blue state while watching folks in swing states have to wait for hours. It makes me so happy, as well as in awe of all those people, waiting that long. They are heroes! But I worry how many look at those long lines and just say forget it? There’s the scandal of this election, not the stupid emails!

  11. William's avatar William says:

I’m in Los Angeles; this is the first time that there has been a long line at my polling place. I am told that for early voting, there were only three open polling spots in all of L.A.! Four hour waits; what is the idea of that for early voting? I think Hillary will win California by three million votes.

  12. Mary Brown's avatar Mary Brown says:

This post from the Mary Sue is hilarious. Also, it contains a video of the judge in Nevada throwing out the Trump lawsuit.

I was an early voter but friends who voted today said lines were long in this Democratic county. It is raining across the state but that doesn’t seem to be depressing voter turnout. Apart from the Presidential race, we have important Senate, House and Governor’s races.

I just spoke to a German friend who lives in Berlin. Germans are very worried about a possible Trump presidency. All of Europe is concerned but my friend said Germany, Italy and Spain are the most frightened by Trump. I wonder why? Could it be something about their own histories? ( These are rhetorical questions. )

I plan to watch mainly local news tonight. I want to follow the down-ballot races. I’ll switch over to CNN or MSNBC occasionally.

Our polls close at 6:00 EST. If Evan Bayh wins his Senate seat here, it will be an early indication of how toss-up Senate races across the country will go.

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Please let us know about Evan Bayh. I’m not that optimistic, but I hope he squeaks by.

      • Beata's avatar Beata says:

Polls have closed in Indiana. Lines in the Hamilton County $uburb of Indianapolis were long, including three-hour waits reported in Carmel. It will be interesting to find out how Republicans in Hamilton County voted ( especially women ). It is a wealthy and well-educated area.

There were so many absentee ballots cast in Marion County ( which includes Indianapolis ) that the election board says they may not have a full count until tomorrow.

“The Bloody 9th” House race between Shelli Yoder ( D ) and Trey Hollingsworth ( R ) will be an interesting one. It’s usually nasty, as its nickname implies. It’s an open seat. Hollingsworth is the son of a rich Tennessee businessman. He just moved to Indiana a short time before entering the race. He’s being called “Tennessee Trey”. His daddy put millions into Sonny’s campaign. Yoder is a native Hoosier and would be the first woman to represent the 9th District. It used to be a Democratic district but has been gerrymandered like every other district in the state.

    • Fannie's avatar Fannie says:

I know that he’s not been living in the state, and that he’s down…………Pence’s state! Hope he wins.

  16. Fannie's avatar Fannie says:

Hey dak, loved your photos today…………Okay, 5 minutes, Indiana…….and the important thing is the tied senate race!

  17. janicen's avatar janicen says:

No waiting at all at my predominantly white precinct but then we got there around 4:45 pm. I rolled in on my knee scooter accompanied by my husband and daughter. The election officials let me vote at a front table while my daughter and husband filed over to the regular voting area. It felt wonderful. We’ll be noshing on sushi and sashimi and watching the returns. Gosh, I can’t believe today has finally arrived. I just can’t wait until much later when she gives her victory speech.

  18. William's avatar William says:

I am not at all thrilled with these early numbers. Indiana should be somewhat closer. The exit polls, as flawed as they might be, indicate a very close popular vote. We absolutely have to win Pennsylvania and Florida.

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Hillary needs to win PA. She can lose Florida and still get to 270. She will win Florida by around 3 points from what I’m hearing.

      • William's avatar William says:

Thanks, BB. I think we have to win both. New Hampshire seems very iffy.

        • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

I disagree about NH. But Hillary doesn’t need both PA and FL to get to 270 unless you know of a couple of blue states that are suddenly going to go to Trump.

      • Fannie's avatar Fannie says:

I just heard from a friend that Allegheny Co. is all for Hillary. They showed long lines in Washington Co. in Starbane, near Pittsburg.

    • Fannie's avatar Fannie says:

I am not surprised at the early calls……..except what the hell is going on with SC? Bernie Sanders country went for Hillary.

Here’s what to know about Virginia. The bellwether county is my own, Chesterfield County. It’s predominantly Republican county. So much so that, if the Republican candidate for president gets LESS than 60% of the vote here, they call the state for the Democrat. It’s a done deal. It will be interesting if that holds true this year.

  25. quixote's avatar quixote says:

I’m kind of ashamed of my voting experience. I voted by mail weeks ago here in SoCal. Spread out on the kitchen table so I could work through all umpteen ballot initiatives. No waiting (;)) no difficulty.

If I was a billionaire I’d be delivering fizzy water and pizzas to all those heroes standing in the endless lines. At least in the photos, there’s a large number of brown people there.

I mean, it’s heroic they’re in the lines, but the fact that we have lines is a disgrace. Cutting the number of polling places is the real voter fraud.
