Thursday Night: It’s Time for Hillary
Posted: July 28, 2016 Filed under: 2016 elections | Tags: DNC COnvention Philadelphia 2016 95 CommentsIt’s that time of the DNC Convention! It’s time to hear from Hillary Clinton our next President!
Chelsea Clinton will be introducing her mother as the Democratic Nominee. This should be an interesting contrast to the Sith Lord’s dark vision for and of our country.
Here’s a preview from the LATimes.
As released by the campaign, here are portions of what Hillary Clinton plans to say tonight as the first woman to accept a major party’s nomination for president:
“America is once again at a moment of reckoning. Powerful forces are threatening to pull us apart. Bonds of trust and respect are fraying. And just as with our founders there are no guarantees. It truly is up to us. We have to decide whether we’re going to work together so we can all rise together.
“We are clear-eyed about what our country is up against. But we are not afraid. We will rise to the challenge, just as we always have.
“So I want to tell you tonight how we’re going to empower all Americans to live better lives. My primary mission as president will be to create more opportunity and more good jobs with rising wages right here in the United States. From my first day in office to my last. Especially in places that for too long have been left out and left behind. From our inner cities to our small towns, Indian Country to Coal Country. From the industrial Midwest to the Mississippi Delta to the Rio Grande Valley.
“The choice we face is just as stark when it comes to our national security. Anyone reading the news can see the threats and turbulence we face. From Baghdad and Kabul, to Nice and Paris and Brussels, to San Bernardino and Orlando, we’re dealing with determined enemies that must be defeated. No wonder people are anxious and looking for reassurance — looking for steady leadership.
“Every generation of Americans has come together to make our country freer, fairer, and stronger. None of us can do it alone. That’s why we are stronger together.”
The story behind Michelle Obama’s beautiful blue dress on Monday night is truly beautiful too.
The ever-stylish first lady of the United States, 52, donned a custom Christian Siriano dress with cap sleeves and an A-line silhouette, dipped in the Democrats’ signature shade — it almost perfectly matched the backdrop. (While Obama’s was made to order, a very similar style is available for $995 at christiansiriano.com.) She added an understated touch of shine with dangling earrings and metallic, pointed-toe Jimmy Choo pumps.
“It is an incredible honor to have such an amazing woman wear one of my creations,”Siriano, 30, said in a statement. “I am in such awe.”
Sirano is best known for using the word “fierce” on Project Runway and dressing the fabulous Leslie Jones of the remade “Ghostbusters” and victim of racist and fat-shaming bullying on Twitter. Sirano is also known for designing dress for full figured women.
“I just don’t think anyone should be excluded from having a beautiful dress,” he said to me when we were talking about the Jones brouhaha, and why he had volunteered to play fairy godfather.
Lest you think Mrs. Obama’s wardrobe choice was just happenstance, however, know that the convention appearance was only the second time she has worn Mr. Siriano; the first time was this month, at the funeral for the police officers killed in Dallas.
Throughout her time in the White House, the first lady has made something of a secondary cause out of supporting new, independent American designers, and choosing her clothes not only because she likes them but because their back story has a certain resonance that goes beyond the aesthetic. Monday night was no different. Fashion is not known for its embrace of togetherness (more for its exclusion). But Mr. Siriano is.
Fierce! Like Michelle Obama and our next President Hillary Clinton!!!
The Democratic National Convention comes to a conclusion Thursday night with the nomination of Hillary Clinton, no surprise there. First daughter Chelsea is expected to make the introduction. Jennifer Granholm is warming up the crowd right now and I understand Kareem Abdul-Jabaar is on his way!

Here we go!!!!
Let’s Celebrate that it’s TIME FOR HILLARY!!!

WooHoo!! I’m smiling already!
yup!
Though it will be late when she finishes I wonder if they will bring out little Charlotte onstage.
Sheriff Lupe Valdez is all kinds of wonderful!
omigawd Movie Bullies and the Drumpf!
TY Dak…………….I heard Nicole Java Jo, say to Rachel Maddow that it’s a down night, not at all full of shining stars and people. This is what pisses me off. Those republican ladies voting for Hillary, they are big bright stars, and those families who have lost their beloved families, who serve as public officers, they have as much say when they speak in memory of their families, and how they TRUST Hillary Clinton, to help families, who feel hopeless and in pain. We need to feel the needs of ordinary Americans, we need to be proud of them.
Nicole pisses me off, she is so out of touch, yet she is the one they selected to be on the panel tonight.
Nicole is,still a Right wing operative. But I have to say she has been supportive of the convention overall.
But I will admit to not trusting any Right wing voter.
I’ve listened to her earlier today Pat. She asked the republicans to help school Trump, to teach him, give him homework and help him better understand politics. Not going to happen, that’s why Trump University sucked.
I don’t trust too many either Pat.
Like, trying to potty t tin a toddler.
Just tuned in and the head of NC NAACP was delivering a moving, inspirational speech!👏 It’s promising to be another soulful, inspirational nite!! The media’s idiot commenters ran me off with their idiotic patter –
He was a rousing speaker.
CSPAN … It’s da bomb!!!
I am not going to make it through this night. These parents are breaking my heart.
I know. This captain’s father is tearing me up.
I just toasted a bagel and because of the lump in my throat I can’t swallow it. I am pathetic.
Gen. Allen, he was spot on. And then the medal of honor recipient was speaking, neither as democrat or republican, and you can hear the boos in the background. They are entitled to protesting, but what they don’t know, is that there are not many recipients alive to give a speech, I mean there is a real storage just yet in county.
They need to find something real to protest and go work on the ground doing social justice.
THANK YOU!
But that would mean work.
Chelsea!!!! It’s time!!!
Bill Clinton is not going to get through this night either.
Yea. He will cry.
Chelsea did well. I was about to start crying with her when she brought up her grandma.
How can you not love that woman?
She is amazing, the principle behind this campaign is amazing, and damn it if the party isn’t amazing because they genuinely seem to get it!
This whole week has been the embodiment of of It Takes a Village.
For Hillary to be the big phony the Repugs pretend she is, she has been sticking with this village scam for a helluva long time!
I love her. I wish she were part of my family. She is soooo like my mother. You have no idea.
And I know that my mother is in Ohio cheering and crying, just like me in Georgia.
Yup. It’s about all of us.
Obviously in my delirium last night I missed it that we were talking about Chelsea and Dorothy, not Hills. .
Michelle said better than I could. Chelsea’s mother raised her daughter “to perfection.” So did Chelsea’s grandmother.
Bravo. I could not be more proud.
BTW – Virginia did a goddamned good job raising her kid too!
OMFG!!!!!
I know.
She looks stunning.
I’m bawling like a baby.
It’s going to be a teary night! I just can’t believe it’s finally happening.
Thought balloon for Bernie: “Get off my lawn!”
I just ran out of tissues, and am now using a,towel! I am a mess.
The Dinosaur National Monument story got me. My parents took me there and I loved it so much I took my oldest back there like 25 years later with my youngest in utero.
From Idaho, history made, 8:47 pm, 28 Jul 2016. Dancing all over the house tonight. Thank you Hillary Clinton.
She’s wearing white, a nod to the suffragists.
Yup
Beautiful, I just luv that.
My fav line from the speech:
It’s true.
Well, I am weeping and carrying on – my mother was born in Dunmore, PA not far from Scranton and I know she would love all of this. She died in August, 2005.
Oh, Hillary – we so love you and wish you only all the best, all of the protection that we can. You are the BEST that we have and may whatever Life Force that that gives us our lives, may that force give you a long life, one that is filled joy, happiness and inspiration. We support you in all ways, always with Love.
❤
It’s been long time coming but change is gonna come…
Your mother was watching Hillary, and cheering her on, just like her daughter, Delphyne!
I don’t know if I ever mentioned this my ggreat mother was Lola Delphine…………and my grandmother was Josephine “Phiney”…………..
I second every word you wrote Delph
I don’t want to violate Alicia Keys copyright but THIS GIRL IS ON FIRE!
Yes indeed.
DEAL ME IN!
LOVE TRUMPS HATE
You can already see those debates completely destroying that Know Nothing buffoon.
Yup
She quoted Hamilton the musical. My daughter swooned even more.
I know!
Did you see those little girls on the floor?
Yup. I see mine in them!
FABULOUS!!!
Proud! Proud! Proud! Proud!
Yes yes yes!
And a garden never grows by itself.
Geez, enough balloons?
I want a blue one with stars … Notice Chelsea grabbed one for Charlotte
I loved reading all your comments! I’ve been watching with my mom. She didn’t make it through all of Hillary’s speech, but she can watch it in the morning.
What a week this has been. The convention was amazingly well organized and planned. I thought the “real people” who spoke tonight were incredibly powerful, especially the Muslim father who spoke about his dead son and let Donald Trump have it. When he spoke directly to Trump and said “You have sacrificed nothing!” I cried. This family is just one of the millions of families that Trump has disrespected and endangered.
We will win in November. I believe in Hillary and I believe in us!
And I believe in you, BB, and all the wonderful people here.
What the world needs now.
Music begins at 1:04
Wonderful!
Name checking Bernie twice was brilliant. She thank him and then shouted out again talking about debt free college.
People heard that.
She knows diplomacy and the old adage about you honey working better than vinegar at attracting people.
That was one kick-ass convention. I watched nearly the whole thing and I have never done that before. What an inspiring event. Let’s do this!!!!
Happy Hillary Morning in America!!!
My beautiful daughter and 8 yr old granddaughter arrived here from NC last evening. Three generations of women watched in excitement as Hillary’s village raised her up! My granddaughter looked at me with big eyes when Hillary said “for every little girl and her grandmother…”. We all cheered and little one said that she might run for the presidency when she grows up. Perfect perfect night.
Loved all the sky dancers comments as I caught up this morning.
Wow. That’s wonderful.
Oh, I’m so happy for you. Your comment literally gave me chills. Hugs.
-sniff- Tears again as I read that about your little granddaughter.
“When there are no ceilings, the sky’s the limit.”
Thank you guys for your years of posts, links and comments.
You keep me Informed, encouraged and entertained.
I do not comment everyday, but trust me, I come here to read every single day.
God bless you!
I need you guys and Hillary needs you guys!
Thank you! We need you too. We are all part of this wonderful journey.
Dittto Ron4Hills… you all help me feel sane in an often crazy-making world.
Ditto Ron. 😁 From a fellow Game of Thrones addict! 😁
Me too! I love this blog. Remember, I live in the reddest state and have no one to talk to since I left the conservative garbage heap. I read every post and comment here. Water to my thirsty brain and refreshment to my soul!
I try to ignore the rest of the state here and stay in the sanity of the city.
Luv you too Ron, and all of us are Stronger Together!

His speech was so powerful!
Offers his copy of the Constitution

Powerful speech.
Piece about Hillary’s historic pantsuit.
I am so thankful for you all and for the blog. I can read the comments here and feel like I have some connection to fellow HRC supporters. I missed the entire show last night. We finally got sling tv which has cnn (as well as TCM) via the Roku internet connection….but yesterday around 7 the wifi went out and bam no chance to see Hillary and her speech. At least I can see the reaction from y’all here. Thank you for that.
I’m trying not to succumb to the temptation to turn on the cable news today, as I don’t want to hear any of the usual complaining and cavilling. Basking in the glow of a great night and excellent convention, is better. It’s still a long slog ahead, but this all was a restorative, after the last few months. Hillary rose to the occasion, as I had no doubt that she would. Her speech was not soaring poetry, the kind the jaded media seems to crave, but she wasn’t striving for that, nor should she have been. It was graceful, eloquent, and issue-oriented, which best reflects her. The audience, which unfortunately lacks our knowledge of Hillary, wanted to know more about her, and what she proposed to do as President. And that is what she delivered for them and us.
The media is craven, dense, ugly. Anderson Cooper tried to credit old BS with the wonderful convention topics – Axilfraud did set him straight by mentioning the schedule and topics were set long ago – it was all Hillary! Anderson, Wolfe, Jake really are great corporate shills but do such a disservice to our country – I have zero respect for CNN, MSNBC. I would love to have each night of the Dem convention recorded (with CC’s) for inspiration as I am in a red, Kristain, kkk, bigot area seemingly devoid of intelligence but also they are locked into what they consider tradition. If you confront them with facts they are offended. Today, all the media speaks of is the trust issue.
Viva Hillary!! Onward and upward!!
I keep hearing pundits saying contradictory things like “Hillary is not a candidate of change” out of one side of their mouths and then saying that “the mantle of unashamed patriotism and optimism has been wrested away from the GOP” out the other.
More than one has said ‘”That was the best GOP convention I’ve seen in years. ” Har Har!
Hate makes people blind. The convention seemed shocking and different in many ways because the NEW LEADER OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY is new and different.
Consider, unashamed belief in goodness and faith, unabashed patriotism, unapologetic commitment to SECURITY and support for police officers.
Simultaneously, full throated feminism, the most progressive platform in history, unflinching acknowledgement and condemnation of racism, support for immigrants and immigration reform, support for ALL human rights including a woman’s right to choose. Pen declaration of war on gun violence. And an unshakeable devotion to our “ONE AMERICAN FAMILY!”
This is clearly a brand New Democratic Party. There were no tokens in this convention just Americans. We have never seen the mirror held up for America quite like this.
But then Hillary has never been the leader before. Of course we are going a different way. We never had a woman at the real before.
Conventions are in a sense the unveiling of new leadership. They in many ways are reflections of the new leaders vision for the future. I am sorry, what I saw this week is CHANGE with a capital CHA!
“Open declaration” and “woman at the wheel before…”
I get excited and my proof reader goes on the fritz.. 🙂
What a great comment, you have nailed it: especially
“Consider, unashamed belief in goodness and faith, unabashed patriotism, unapologetic commitment to SECURITY and support for police officers.
We have never seen the mirror held up for America quite like this.”
So, so true!!!
Oh yes! She leads with her heart and her soul and her brilliant mind. This is healthy patriotism.
The MSM can go fork themselves.
