Live Blog: Hillary Wins Nevada!!! Will Trump take South Carolina?

wp-1456005296982.jpeg Hello from one of the Krewe Of Hillary!

It’s the first day of early voting here in Louisiana!

It’s also the day that Madam Secretary won the Nevada Caucus!

Tonight we’ll see if Trump manages to win the Republican Primary in South Carolina.

Hillary Clinton will win the Nevada Democratic caucuses, CNN projects, a crucial victory that could ease concerns about her ability to secure the party’s nomination.

With 72% of the expected vote in, Clinton was ahead of Sanders 52.2% to 47.7%.

The win provides a jolt of momentum to the former secretary of state as she heads into the February 27 South Carolina Democratic primary and Super Tuesday on March 1.

Clinton faced a surprisingly spirited challenge here from Democratic rival Bernie Sanders. The two were in a virtual dead heat in recent days. A win by Sanders, who trounced Clinton in the New Hampshire primary, would have dealt Clinton a dramatic setback.

Clinton relied on strong turnout from Latino voters to hold Sanders at bay. Her surrogates fanned out across the Silver State this week, attempting to portray her as the more trustworthy candidate for Latinos.

We’re waiting for the Victory Speech!!

Polls close in South Carolina in ONE HOUR so stay tuned and join us!!!

Did Brian Williams actually just say that Hillary has not talked about Flint or college costs before and maybe she was influenced by Bernie to do that?!

    Yes. Yes he did.

And Rachel just had a melt down over Super Delegates. I wonder why she wasn’t crying about that in 2008? Fuck Rachel Maddow!!!!! Sorry about my language, but watching MSNBC and their total sellout to Sanders makes me furious. So Fuck MSNBC, Too! 🙂

I’m joyful. Fuck these assholes. Hillary will fight for every vote and she is going to be the next President of the U.S. It’s going to happen, JJ!!

Joyful is exactly what I feel. We’ve been fighting for our rights for decades and Hillary, to my mind, is a symbol of our struggle. She will not stop fighting and neither will we. Fuck Rachel Maddow, Brian Williams and all of the other MSNBC and CNN pundits who are cheering for Bernie. Bernie by the way will be 75 in September. In my opinion he’s to old for the job. As an old person I can say that!!! 🙂

I am now trying to figure out whom I want Hillary to run against. They mentioned a Gallup Poll today which had her losing to every Republican. I’m not that worried about such a poll at this stage, but clearly the constant derogating of her by the media and by Sanders supporters, is not helping. It has occurred to me that Rubio, for all his callowness, and his non-grasp of any major issue, is the kind of candidate that Joe and even Jane Sixpack might vote for. We saw it with Bush vs. Gore in 2000. A candidate who talks solely in platitudes, tells everyone how much he loves America; stays away from ever discussing issues, even in debates.

Thus I am beginning to think that I want Trump to be nominated. Oh, he is scary, but so are all of the Republicans. If we lose this election, it is going to be a dreadful time for the country. Thus, I want Hillary to run against someone who has no record, and who doesn’t even know what the issues are, much less how to solve them. Of course, one could make the argument that if Trump doesn’t get the nomination, he will run as a third party candidate, but I don’t think he will.

    • ANonOMouse's avatar ANonOMouse says:

Yep, I think Trump would be walkover for Hillary. But I think she’ll beat any republican when the country has the opportunity to see her debate them.

      • William's avatar William says:

Mouse, I think you are right–but we saw Bush essentially avoid discussing anything substantive with Gore in debates. He kept saying things like “Leaders lead.” The general election debate rules, which the Republicans insist on to even have debates, are so constrained in terms of time to respond, that anyone can simply run out the clock and blather on for 90 seconds. It is not at all conducive to an exchange of opinions. I really anticipate that a Rubio campaign would consist of billions of dollars of anti-Hillary ads, and very little else, except for him saying how much he loves America. The Republicans can’t win a debate on issues, so they will just avoid them if possible, in favor or soundbites and ads.

        • ANonOMouse's avatar ANonOMouse says:

I agree. Just watching the GOP debates proves your point. Republicans rarely answer the questions they are asked. As for Al Gore, I think he did himself in when he refused to embrace Bill Clinton. Al spent the entire campaign trying to calmly addressing the Love Story accusations, the “he invented the Internet” lie and lies about his pot use in his 20’s. Donna Brazile was a horrific campaign manager in not allowing him to really take a dagger to his fight against the many smears the GOP put out. I was so upset with Brazile I wrote her a number of emails and she even responded to one of them defending their decisions to play nice. It was just a pitifully run campaign and Al Gore is a terrible debater, especially the debate where he combed his hair like Ronald Reagan and even adopted some of Reagan’s mannerism. Still, I believe Al Gore won the election and was screwed out of the Presidency by Scalia and the other right wingers on SCOTUS.

        • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Hillary is not Al Gore. Not even close.

    • janicen's avatar janicen says:

Wow. I was just saying the opposite earlier. I would rather Rubio than Trump. I think Hillary can crush Rubio but Trump (although I think she would beat him too) is almost never criticized. He stands on the stage and throws shit like a monkey and his followers and the media barely notice it and move on. It will be interesting no matter which one it is but I still think Rubio is too much of a light weight. Kasich would be stronger than Rubio IMO.

      • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

My money is on Trump with Rubio getting the VP slot.

      • William's avatar William says:

Kasich is the most worrisome, in that he is not insane, and he has some grasp of issues, just the wrong position of all of them. I could definitely see him on the ticket.

Hillary is by far the most intelligent, most capable person out there. But as my father told me once, the Republicans can run just about anyone, and have a good chance to win, because they have the money and most of the media. I honeslty do not know whom I’d rather have her face. I just hope that somehow the media covers this election with some degree of fairness, rather than trying to control the outcome, and come up with a bunch of ridiculous issues like the ones Mouse mentioned below, and like those used in 1988 against Dukakis.

Tonight we will celebrate Hillary’s victory, and a good path ahead to the nonination. But like everyone, I tend to worry, because it so incredibly important that she win.

      • William's avatar William says:

I just saw Chris Matthews, who should know better, talking about Rubio’s youth and energy, and how he is the voice of a new generation; and how people can identify with his story of being first generation American, and… Of course, the fact that he is a far right-wing Republican who is much worse than Romney with regard to social and economic issues, is not in the discussion. THe media, and then the public, is just so deluded by these “personal narratives,” and do not seem to realize it is primarily about governance. We are not picking the winner of some talent show. They seem to think we are, though.

        • janicen's avatar janicen says:

The final results are not in yet but it looks like Cruz is gaining on Rubio. They are less than 1k votes apart at this point and Cruz is up there speaking like he won. So we aren’t done with him yet.

  8. ANonOMouse's avatar ANonOMouse says:

MSNBC becoming an arm of the Bernie Sanders campaign has influenced this race. They needed viewership and keeping this race going does that. And Sanders concession speech implied that he’ll be fighting against a Super Pac in SC that is funded by Wall Street. Demagoguery Much Bernie? What a little weasel.

    • ANonOMouse's avatar ANonOMouse says:

A semi-victory. Only in a GOP Primary is 2nd place treated like a win.

      • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Well, unless Hillary Clinton comes in first as in Iowa, Nevada. Did you notice that Bernie didn’t even congratulate Hillary? And then he claimed to have won the Latino vote?

Ugh. I used to really respect him.

        • ANonOMouse's avatar ANonOMouse says:

I just read at 538 blog that the early entry polls had him leading among Latinos, but 538 questioned that poll. They said the sample was too small. But of course Bernie was going to go with that poll because BS, which doesn’t stand for Bernie Sanders, is what he does.

I’m sitting here at 10:48 central time and watching Hillary speaking live in Houston, TX. Tweety thinks her age is going to be an issue. She’s older than I am and I’m ready to go to bed. She won Nevada caucus, gave victory speech, flew to TX and is bringing the house down. I’m heading to bed. I’m getting tired just thinking about her schedule.

Clinton has enjoyed a formidable 20-point lead in recent polls in South Carolina, where her backing from African Americans is looking more durable than that of Latino voters. She is also leading in 10 of the 12 states that will hold Democratic primaries between 1 and 8 March, again partly thanks to her overwhelming support among black voters, according to a Public Policy Polling survey released this week.

    http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/feb/20/hillary-clinton-narrowly-clinches-nevada-caucus-donald-trump-wins-big-south-carolina-primary

“Narrowly.” Not biased or anything like that, are we, Guardian writers? Heh. 🙂 If Hillary’s A-A support is “more durable than that of Latino voters” we have win after win ahead!

Casting doubt on Latino voter “durability,” eh? Who are they going to vote for — Trump? Hahaha!

    • janicen's avatar janicen says:

Bernie’s camp (and therefore the media) is making a big deal out of the fact that Bernie beat Hillary among hispanics in nevada. The problem nobody bothers to explain is that it was a caucus. The hispanics working in Las Vegas and elsewhere couldn’t get the day off to attend a caucus. There were what, around 11,000 total votes? I’d go out on a limb and say Hillary wins when it comes to working hispanics without any data to back me up.

      • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

He didn’t win with Hispanics. They are basing that on entrance polls. The final count showed that Hillary won them by 20%. She wouldn’t have won at all if she had lost them.

Bernie and his crew are liars!

        • ANonOMouse's avatar ANonOMouse says:

Yes they are!!! And they’ve been using dirty tricks all along the way and the MSM with smirking Rachel at the wheel refuses to call them out, but Rachel didn’t hesitate to attempt to call out Debbie Wasserman Shultz over Super Delegates. I feel a new email to rachel@msnbc.com, coming on!!!!

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Luna, the final result was Hillary between 5 and 6 points ahead of Bernie. That is not a “narrow” win.

      • ANonOMouse's avatar ANonOMouse says:

Exactly right!!! Even a solid win for Hillary is portrayed as a narrow win. I wonder how Rachel is going to dress up his next smashing defeat in SC? Let me guess. She’s going to say he narrowed her lead significantly and that at one point she was beating him by 40%. That should make the berners feel better.

      • NW Luna's avatar NW Luna says:

I was being sarcastic about the “narrowly” which was the Guardian’s adverb. Guess that didn’t come across very well.

  19. NW Luna's avatar NW Luna says:

I was wondering if Al Jazeera would be less biased than the Guardian about Hillary. Apparently not. And here is this ludicrous “truth” from an opinion writer who think Hillary is taking Black voters for granted.

Here’s the best dating advice I ever got: When a man tells you who he is, you better believe him. That applies equally well to politicians.

Oy. Is this person out of her teens yet?

I’m sorry to see Al-Jazeera’s joined the Boyz. The only international media I’ve found in English so far that isn’t mostly business or hasn’t been all bro’d up is the Toronto Star.

This is how they covered today:
    http://www.thestar.com/news/world/2016/02/20/hillary-clinton-wins-nevada-democratic-presidential-caucus.html

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation used to be a beacon for women, especially for those of us lucky enough to pick up direct radio or TV. “As It Happens” in particular was a welcome relief to the increasingly misogynist NPR. But a massive 2008 budget cut and a conservative prime minister later, CBC news leads with the likes of Neil MacDonald – a Hillary hater from way back and an ongoing rape apologist. Half the time their articles are written by AP anyway, with -that- bias against women going back at least twenty years.

The Star has yet to be swept up in the retreat to the 1950s in journalism. It was the home of the legendary Michele Landsberg until her retirement. There are still some very good opinion columnists there (just avoid Rosie DeManno).
