Looks much happier now. Soon to be 90, bless him!

The man on the left is Georg Kreisler, not Tom Lehrer.

  3. Guenter's avatar Guenter says:

Indeed. Kreisler stole two of Lehrer’s songs. Probably somewhat unwittingly.

Tom Lehrer is a joy! He is brilliant, talented, charming, funny, & has a way of seeing & remarking on the world that makes him one of the best satirists ever! Other commenters are saying the photo on the left is not Lehrer; I agree.

Tom Lehrer was a feature of my life from the early fifties when I first heard his earliest recordings. His politics and humor informed and enlightened me and then my kids and then their kids. We used to sing the songs in the car on the way to summer vacations. Of course he’s still alive, he really that old when he made his records and then he taught math in Santa Cruz and then he retired. 90’s good. “If, after hearing my songs, just one human being is inspired to say something nasty to a friend, or perhaps to strike a loved one, it will all have been worth the while.”

This comment is so wonderful! I am glad you and your children got to experience Tom Lehrer! I first experienced his music and satire when I was in 2nd grade. You mentioned road trips and it reminded me of when my parents would sing what I called “the hand song” on long trips and I got in trouble for singing about kissing severed hands at school.
