Throwdown Thursday
Posted: February 20, 2014 Filed under: open thread 37 CommentsSo, I’ m thinking we need some kind of new thread. The morning one is getting rather full. Thought I’d share a few things I’ve been thinking about today and encourage you to do the same.
First, if you are in town, please come to my favorite Rap Star’s debut! Actually, she’s my neighbor too. This is 91 year old Laura Swinney, the sage of Poland Avenue. She is doing her thing at Siberia. One of the things that always amazes me about this city is the interesting people I meet. This is especially true of the local women. I have met a mistress of Humprey Bogart and one of the original Rockettes. Gives me some hope.
So, it’s an open thread with an open mind.
What’s on yours?

She’s lovely.
She is an actress and really full of life!
Looks like it’ll be a good time. Wish I was in the neighborhood.
Wish I were to support her, and walk your neighborhood.
Bloomberg:
The U.S. economy may prove more prone to deflation than the Federal Reserve acknowledges and that may present a reason to keep monetary policy loose, according to a model created by Wells Fargo Securities LLC.
Seeing Facebook pay $19 billion for WhatApp has me thinking about bursting bubbles again. Even with 450 mil users that’s a pant load of money for an app.
My house is going up at average of 75% a year now. I’m kinda worried about an asset bubble frankly.
Better to worry before than after I’m sure. If this kind of unsupportable growth becomes more general, then it may be time to flee.
Yeah. I have to talk to my sister. I’m still thinking I’m better in Seattle in the long run despite my love affair with New Orleans.
If I were in New Orleans, I don’t know if I could leave. Although I really always hated the awful humidity. It’s just unique. Walking around in the older parts, especially the Quarter, you can forget you’re in the US cause it sure doesn’t feel like it.
That has to be such a tough decision Dak, when you love the place you live but hate what is happening to it…yet have the opportunity to move to another wonderful city. My friend Jill loves Seattle, she just bought a house there and it is super cool!
catching up late…..Hey y’all, come on up to Seattle! Coffee, marriage equality, sensible recreational weed law, but only 1 Socialist city councilmember (so far). Really nice weather, too (counting July, Aug & Sept. that is). You’ll only have to shovel out your sidewalk and driveway once every other decade.
But it is impossible to beat New Orleans for the music and related culture. And housing prices here, while not as hideous as San Fran, and lower than back in ’07/’08, are still really high for the person with a median income. Sales tax is regressive, too. Pros/cons anywhere; you have to pick what balances out the best for you.
My daughter is happily settled in the skagit valley now and my son in law will be at the UW med center starting in June. Dad really needs to live with some one so I need to have a talk with my sister.
I see that legalizing marijuana has brought more than 190 million dollars to Colorado.
Don’t bogart that joint, my friend, pass it over to me.
Some interesting things behind that lawyer that wanted “noise” out of his french quarter neighborhood:

I wrote pretty long email to Palmer appealing to my authority as an economist and musician. She was the one city council member I singled out. Seems he threatened her and some other folks. Very interesting.
She sent the emails to the police.
That would be attempted extortion, if they want to prosecute him.
McCain On Ukraine: Obama Is ‘Most Naive President In History’
This is why anyone who claims “there’s no difference between the parties” needs to be promptly pointed at and laughed at as an imbecile, then dismissed as being unworthy to participate in grown up discussion.
I’m already impressed that John McCain hasn’t yet demanded that Obama bombs Ukraine.
Take a look at this image on huffpo, it has a before/after of Kiev, it is very disturbing and puts things into perspective…
I actually saw something similar on my friend’s Facebook today – her vacation photo from July on Maidan, and a photo the same area now.
Also, I just saw something on Twitter about an agreement/truce to be announced. I don’t think it will last, though, because in a crowd as large as one on Maidan, there’s always a fraction that’s just not interested in any truces.

I can’t help myself, as a character, I just love Edwin Edwards. He cracks me up.
yeah .. he’s going to run against Tony Perkins … I’m all for it
Damn BB, my blood is running cold listening to that.
OMG, I split my belly laughing, that cracked the hell out me.

Battleground Texas is registering a lot of voters, and it looks like the members of the national conservative grifter network are getting a little nervous:
Why isn’t James O’Keefe in Jail or a Psych ward?
Unfortunately they let him out of jail. That he’s spending his time in TX videoing Battleground seems like they are worried to me. I hope they have a lot of reason to worry!
TBogg does a number on Nugent.
The wolf in Sochi video that went viral was a Jimmy Kimmel prank 🙂
