What Fresh Hell? (Live and unfolding)

The chaos stemming from an insurrectionist movement within the Republican Party continues to be felt in all corners of the world. Meanwhile, a Capitol Police bachmannOfficer–on duty but not being paid–has just been choppered off the West Lawn of the White House. It appears a woman tried to ram a gate at the White House.

“The United States Capitol Police have stabilized the incident,” officials said in a message.

The incident began a little after 2 p.m. when the woman tried to breach White House security at 15th St. and E but didn’t get through, law-enforcement sources said.

She was chased at high speeds for about 12 blocks, the sources said. Near the Capitol, she began firing and was shot, the sources said. Her condition was unknown.

The Capitol Police are having a live presser now.  There was a baby in the car and it’s fine.  Another presser is due at 4:15 est.  They do not believe this is related to terrorism and is considered an isolated incident.

Meanwhile, the insane are still running the asylum: Bachmann: Republicans ‘About The Happiest’ They’ve Been In A While During Shutdown (VIDEO).

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) on Wednesday said she wasn’t worried about Republicans caving to pressure to end the government shutdown because “this is about the happiest” she’s seen her conservative colleagues in a long time.

Appearing with colleague Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS), Bachmann told Fox News host Sean Hannity that she believes there has been “strong unity” between conservatives on almost every budget vote.

“This is about the happiest I’ve seen members in a long time, because we see we are starting to win this dialogue on a national level,” she said.

Then there’s a potential Hurricane Karen churning in the Gulf just waiting to head towards the coast.  Where is FEMA?

The Federal Emergency Management Agency confirmed just after 1 p.m. it has re-activated the Hurricane Liaison Team ahead of the anticipated landfall of Tropical Storm Karen.

For the latest on the storm’s strength and projected track click here.

“Gulf Coast residents in potentially impacted areas should take steps now to be prepared and follow the direction of local officials,” FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate said in a prepared statement. “FEMA will continue to support our state and local partners as they prepare for any potential impacts.”

The liaison team works in tandem with the National Hurricane Center in Miami. It was not immediately clear how many FEMA employees are affected by the re-activation.

Non-disaster FEMA personnel were deemed non-essential earlier in the week, but it remains to be seen how much of the agency the White House will reinstate to address the storm expected to make landfall Saturday or Sunday somewhere between eastern Louisiana and the Florida panhandle.

I am assuming these folks are going to be unpaid also.

Can the Republicans get over their wet dreams that we don’t need a federal government now?

They are also saying all shots came from law enforcement.

      • I don’t understand. She didnt male it through the gate right? Why couldn’t they have taken her into custody alive?

I just watched some of the video that was shot by bystanders, she definitely was using her car as a weapon against the officers. The cops had her blocked in. About 8 cops on foot closed in on her car, she threw her car into reverse and rammed a police car (cop was injured and life flight took him to hosp) and then she almost ran over the cops on foot. As she sped away they shot her and I feel sure they felt that she might have had her car rigged to explode because she was driving like a maniac. I just read a story about female radicals who are willing to die in suicide bombings for their cause. Not to long ago there was an Afghan woman who strapped on a bomb and attacked the UN forces in Afghanistan. It happens in Israel and also in Iraq. I bet she was just having some sort of breakdown, but she couldn’t have had it in a worse place. I’m just glad her child wasn’t injured.

“What Fresh Hell?” That perfectly describes our day-to-day experience in a country that’s been turned on it’s head by the clusterfuck that is the GOP/TP. If it isn’t nature slapping us in the head with fires, floods, mudslides, landslides, tornadoes, hurricanes (because there’s no global warming, doncha know?) it’s the kamikaze faction of the GOP/TP trying to destroy America.

    It is just stunning!!!!!

    • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

It is. They just believe the voices in their heads and nothing real like science!

    • Didnt Hillary get criticized for calling these biblical times (figuratively) in maybe Haiti or somewhere natural /human made disaster-struck as SecState –flood, fire, quake, slide, etc. Maybe the earth isn’t punishing us for being here and/or queer, she’s trying to return us to sender for not recognizing it’s one earth – one love. You know. Mythos. I’m not going to be expecting us to all fall off the face of the earth. (Though, that’s never sounded so fun as it does these days.)

      • NW Luna's avatar NW Luna says:

Biblical times — I’m all for the biblical “love your brother (and sister), feed the poor, heal the sick, do unto others”

Too bad we can’t shove the Repugs off the face of the earth. Yeah, that’s not very compassionate but I’m more fed up than ever with seeing the pain and suffering they cause to others.

        • I think we can shove them off the negotiating table. Lilo-kitto does this all the time. She’s doing it right now.

          • Remember when women legislators weren’t even brought to the table to discuss Stupakistan exec order? It’s not as if O calls everyone to the table to negotiate in the first place . He negotiates with the terrorists and throws ordinary people (women, minorities, labor, Maude and Edith and Meathead, Archie too….and Alice Palmer!!!!!!! ) under the bus. Stifle, folks, stifle.

Jeez, get over the false equivalence won’t you,

            • What is the false equivalence?

Excuse me but where was O and Pelosi and Reid trying to make everyone was at the table when this shitcare was passed on the back of women’s civil rights? Why are women’s rights being used as the bargaining chip again and again for this bill? Conscience clause, much?

Do we want health care as a right or not? Do we support women’s rights or not?

Obama’s line in the sand has always been just to the right of moderate Repub. everybody on the right side at the table, C-Street come on down .

              • Please don’t tell me Stupakistan didn’t matter either and they gave us the flowers, chocolate, and Magdalena pill mandate after they took turns with the GOP beating us up. We have had mini-Stupak one after another spread across our local governments and detract from the actual business of governing and getting people jobs.

          • Here are some tutorials for O on how to handle Republican Electeds/Boughts–by O himself:

I don’t give a shit what Elizabeth Edwards said in 2008! It did absolutely nobody any good but it apparently has bred hurt feeling that have been and are counter-productive to making progress.

People, all people, make mistakes and let us down sometimes. That why it’s best to realize politicians are not your friend, ever! They use voters and voters use them, if we’re lucky something good comes of it. Losing sight of progress for personal animus is jut silly.

Since we’re all friends and basically on the same page then we should be able to be candid without being angry.

As a woman who’s escorted other women into PP and into the offices of Docs who do abortions I see it like this

Stupak-Pitts didn’t make it into the final ACA bill because Obama promised to do exactly what has been done in the appropriations bills since Medicare and Medicaid began nearly 50 years ago. The rule that has been applied to the Medicare/Medicaid appropriations is called the Hyde Amendment and it prevents the government from paying for abortions except in cases of rape and incest. That amendment has been challenged over and over again by Democrats over the last 5 decades, but I think it’s only been omitted from the Medicare & Medicaid appropriations bill on one occasion.

I would have preferred if the bill had allowed abortion to be the medical decision between the patient and the doctor, but it’s never been that way in Medicare/Medicaid, and I don’t think there was anyway the bill would have passed, not even if the bill had been SPUHC or Medicare for all, without the deferral to the Hyde Amendment.

            JMHO!!!!

I think we’re all on the same basic page as far as the overall vision is concerned. I also think it is important to be respectful when we disagree about the details.

          • Women are insane enemies? What?

We don’t deserve a seat at the table but O can’t tell Ted Cruz he’s insane shut up and sit in the corner and think about what he did in timeout ?

Got to think about what I can say to support Wendy then. She’s insane, I’m insane, we’re not worthy, don’t let us stand with each other, we have cooties

Actually Roe wasn’t decided until 1973 so The Hyde Amendment wasn’t applied to the Medicare/Medicaid appropriations process until after Roe became law. I think the SCOTUS even upheld the constitutionality of Hyde in the late 70’s. Sorry about that but my memory is getting a bit blurred.

          • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

The only thing I know is that it makes me wish there was a hell so Hyde could be roasting there eternally in the kind of misery his career caused others.

I know. I don’t believe in the hell that comes after life either. I’m almost positive most of us get hell right here. Millions of women have been denied the healthcare they needed, just when they needed it the most, because of people like Henry Hyde. And 40 years after Roe we still have a huge group of people who believe they have the right to impose their religious beliefs on others. I’m certain I won’t live long enough to see that change.

    Mystery is over. Wendy 2014.

I have decided to run for governor of the great state of Texas.

As Texans, we believe that with hard work, determination, and a little old-fashioned common sense, we can build a better future for ourselves and our families.

We can make our communities safer, create jobs, and get Texas moving in the right direction.

I realize that we have a challenging road ahead. But after talking with my family, my friends, and my closest supporters — I am convinced this is the right decision.

I’m running in this race for my neighbors and friends, for the families of Texas, and for every Texas citizen who believes, as I do, that we can make Texas even greater.

As we start this journey, I’d like to thank you for all of your past support. It has been a big factor in my decision — and I look forward to working with you as we move forward.
