Unhinged Wayne LaPierre Advocates Putting Guns in Schools as Gunman Kills 4, Wounds 3 in Altoona, PA

Wayne LaPierre

A short time ago, NRA Executive VP Wayne LaPierre gave a press conference in which he suggested turning American into an armed camp by assigning “armed police officers” to guard every school in the country. Washington Post:

In his first extensive public remarks since last week’s mass shooting at a Connecticut school, the head of the National Rifle Association called Friday for lawmakers to take action to put police officers in all schools in an effort to curb such violence.

“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre said at a news conference in Washington.

LaPierre called on Congress “to appropriate whatever is necessary to put armed police officers in every school in this nation.”

Will the money for that be coming out of the hides of elderly social security recipients along with all the other things wingnuts want to spend money on?

Simultaneously with LaPierre’s speech, an armed man in Altoona, PA began “randomly” shooting people.

Emergency officials have rushed to to the scene of a deadly shooting in Blair County, PA. Officials in Altoona, Pennsylvania say that four people were killed, including the shooter, and three state police officers were injured in the deadly shooting. According to KDKA-TV, the state troopers are not in critical condition. One trooper’s bulletproof vest stopped a bullet that struck him in the chest. Another trooper was injured in a crash, and the third was injured by flying debris, likely to be shattered glass. The troopers shot and kill the suspect, who sources say was Jeffrey Lee Michael of Hollidaysburg, Pa.

Before he died in a shootout with state troopers, the man killed two other men and a woman.

Four people are dead — including the shooter — and three state troopers were injured this morning in a shooting incident in Frankstown Township, Blair County District Attorney Richard Consiglio said.

The gunman and two other men and a woman are all dead, Consiglio said.

The woman was killed at the Juniata Valley Gospel Church, a nondenominational church outside of Geeseytown on Juniata Valley Road, sources tell the Mirror.

Two troopers were wounded during a shootout with the suspect, Consiglio said. One trooper was hit in his bulletproof vest and another was hit by flying glass when the gunman fired at his state police vehicle.

A third trooper was injured in a crash involving the suspect, Consiglio said.

No word on what kind of weapon the shooter used. Watch Wayne LaPierre’s wild and wooly press conference here.

This is a wild west, gun totin’ America-gone-insane open thread.

Wayne LaPierre is a shameful idiot who should be shunned out of American life! I hope NRA members finally have their fill of this utter lunacy and revolt, but am not holding my breath waiting for it.

I just don’t even know what to say. Disbelief, yet I knew it would happen again. How many people have to die before the guns are regulated? How many? How many before those NRA cowards finally stop? How many before our “representatives” including the POTUS finally DO something about this violence and not just talk about it? It’s disgraceful on their part.

You’re right, BB – wild west, gun totin’ America gone insane. It makes me weep.

During LaPiere’s press conference today a man holding a sign that read “The NRA Kills” walked in front of the Podium and held up the sign cutting off the camera angle of LaPiere. He stood there a few seconds before being ejected. He screamed “the NRA kills” and other slams at the NRA, all the way out of the room. If LaPiere can’t stop one LONE SIGN CARRIER at his own press conference, who would trust him to do anything meaningful to protect our children? Fuck the NRA.

They always talk how the only way to stop an armed shooter is another guy with a firearm. Shouldn’t we be allowed to bring guns and knifes on airplanes?

Everyone over the age of 10 should have to carry a gun so that if someone starts shooting, everyone will shoot. If anyone gets killed in the crossfire, it will be their own fault. They should have had a bigger gun.

Speaking of Police States: Governor Huey P. Jindal

    http://thelensnola.org/2012/12/21/jindal-gaining-reputation-for-punishing-people-who-stand-in-his-way/

Long list of people who criticize or make his policies like bad that get sacked from jobs:

One sign that Jindal has gained a reputation for vindictiveness came in September when Fred Cerise, one of the doctors who oversaw LSU’s hospitals, spoke at a League of Women Voters luncheon in Baton Rouge. Jean Armstrong, who heads the league’s Baton Rouge chapter, asked photographers covering the event not to pan over the crowd because, as she explained in an interview later, state employees in attendance had told her beforehand that they feared retaliation.

“The governor’s reputation precedes him,” Armstrong said. “If you disagree, you disappear.”

Armstrong called back to add: “There’s a new saying: ‘believing’ or ‘be leaving.’”

@AP Iowa high court says bosses can fire workers who they consider an ‘irresistible attraction’: http://apne.ws/VaZ364

    eeeshhh ….

The Iowa Supreme Court says a dentist did not commit gender discrimination when he fired an attractive female assistant he viewed as a threat to his marriage.

The court ruled Friday that a boss can fire an employee he considers an “irresistible attraction,” even if the employee has done nothing wrong.

The decision is the first in Iowa, but in line with rulings elsewhere.

Justices rejected a discrimination lawsuit filed by Melissa Nelson, who was fired by Fort Dodge dentist James Knight in 2010.

Nelson had worked in Knight’s office for 10 years. She and Knight eventually started texting outside work about personal matters. Knight’s wife, who also worked at the office, found out and demanded Nelson’s firing.

Crazy, women hating people run our country.

pope thinks biggest threat to humanity and civilization and god and all that is ….
    Gay marriage and adoption …

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2012/12/21/pope-gay-marriage/1783911/

Gay marriage denies God and devalues human dignity, Pope Benedict XVI said Friday in his annual “state of the Church” address at the Vatican.

Speaking to the Curia, the bureaucrats who run the global church of 1.2 billion Catholics, the pope said opposition to gay marriage is a way of defending humanity: “Whoever defends God is defending man.”

Benedict also quoted the chief rabbi of France, Gilles Bernheim, who has written that promoting a right to same-sex marriage is an “attack” on the traditional family made up of a father, mother and children.

The address echoed his recently released annual peace message, which said gay marriage, abortion and euthanasia are threats to world peace.

          Playing Taxes Hold ’Em

As in 2011, then, the Republican crazies are doing Mr. Obama a favor, heading off any temptation he may have felt to give away the store in pursuit of bipartisan dreams.

And there’s a broader lesson here. This is no time for a Grand Bargain, because the Republican Party, as now constituted, is just not an entity with which the president can make a serious deal. If we’re going to get a grip on our nation’s problems — of which the budget deficit is a minor part — the power of the G.O.P.’s extremists, and their willingness to hold the economy hostage if they don’t get their way, needs to be broken

Bill Moyers: America ‘turned violence into a profit center’ and has ‘fetish with guns’

    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/12/20/bill-moyers-america-turned-violence-into-a-profit-center-and-has-fetish-with-guns/

“America’s turned violence into a profit center,” he argues before questioning the interpretation of the second amendment as meaning that “a sparsely-populated frontier nation in the 18th century really means tolerating a perpetual wild west here in the 21st century.”

Moyers concludes by stating that we can take action and that gun violence is not inevitable. “Register all guns. License all gun owners. Require stringent background checks. Get tough on assault weapons of any kind. Crack down on high-capacity ammunition as the President has now proposed. And then, enforce the laws,” he said.

“Yes, I know, determined killers will always find a way. But we can minimize the opportunities, and scale back the scope of destruction. Why do we accept the need for driver’s licenses? Or submit to the sometimes humiliating body scans at airports? Because it’s the law, and deep down we know we’re safer for the inconvenience of the law.”

Conservative Columnist Doubles Down On Women Are To Blame For Newtown Argument

According to anti-feminist Charlotte Allen, a male janitor or “even some of the huskier 12-year-old boys” would have made all the difference in the Newtown massacre, simply because they are male. National Review published Allen’s controversial piece on Wednesday, where she attributed the massacre to Sandy Hook’s female staff and its “feminized setting.”

Here’s an update on the shootings in PA:

The gunman who died in an apparent shootout with police in central Pennsylvania Friday morning began his rampage by shooting a woman who was decorating a church for a children’s Christmas party, according to the brother of the church’s late pastor.

The Altoona Mirror reports that the gunman, who sources identified as Jeffrey Lee Michael of Hollidaysburg, then shot another person outside the church, and fled the scene in a pickup truck, crashed head-on into another car, and then shot and killed that car’s driver.

CBS Pittsburgh reports that troopers responded to a 9-1-1 “shots fired” call about 9 a.m. Additional 9-1-1 calls reported an armed man shooting at additional locations.

Two troopers were fired at by the driver of a pickup truck on Juniata Valley Road and a third officer was injured in a head-on crash with the pickup, sources told the station.

Michael exited the truck and immediately shot at troopers. Troopers returned fire, killing Michael.

    Unbelievable.

They are really a piece of work. I saw them the first time about 20-25 years ago at one of the first Gay Pride marches in my southern State and they were, even then, using the “god hates fags” signs. Back in those days when they were only taunting L/G’s the community at large didn’t much care what they were doing, so they flew under the radar. When the Iraq war started and body bags began coming home they realized they could get much more attention if they could somehow tie the death of U.S. Soldiers to a society that didn’t hate gay people enough. They’re a bunch of sick folks.
