Continued healing and strength to Gabby…she is a beautiful, inspiring woman.

She is indeed a beautiful and inspiring woman. I am thankful for people like her and wish we had more of them!
Me too!
Thank you for this post, Wonk. I too wish Gabby all the best.
Wishing her wonderful things.
Hiya Joyce…:)
“Wishing her wonderful things”
well said.
I feel angry that there has been little or no questioning of the gun culture. It’s just accepted, not resisted. Makes me mad.
I’m quite depressed about it as well, though I’m pretty resigned to the fact that 2nd amendment politics in the US is just not a battle we’re going to win anytime soon. What we really need to start with first is just better freakin’ enforcement of laws that are already on the books.
Yes, that would be a worthy effort.
Yep, if we can’t or won’t enforce the laws we have then more won’t do any good.
I was thinking similar things, including how quickly this “story” mostly disappeared, and as you say, with no questioning of the “gun culture.” For apparently lots of people, gun ownership, often of any kind of gun they choose, including military grade automatic weapons, is seen as an all but “God given right” — and for some, there’s no “all but” involved.
Wonk, you’re right, that just getting laws enforced is what we can focus on, and I’d add, preventing them from being removed.
So often one sees the same people spouting about God are also inveighing about their constitutional right to “bear arms” which have apparently been interpreted as the right of an individual to do so.
Thanks for starting this great discussion, Pilgrim.
Gabby is a Great Woman, but beat the odds, and I look forward whatever endeavors she participates in.
This announcement didn’t surprise me. Gabby Giffords has put up a valiant fight and made a remarkable recovery, considering the extent of her injury. But she has her continued recovery and rehabilitation to put first at this point. She made the right decision and I think Americans are absolutely on her side.
I hope she does come back into the political theater, stronger than ever. But whatever she decides, she’s a heck of a fighter.
