Michele and Marcus Bachmann and Cher’s Gaydar

GOP Presidential Candidate Michele Bachmann and her potential “first dude” Marcus Bachmann have been campaigning together since her recent announcement that she is running for President. At a rally on June 28, in Myrtle Beach, NC, Michele gave a rousing stump speech and then the happy couple danced together onstage to the strains of “Wabash Cannonball”

——————————————————————

In 2010, Marcus Bachmann explained to a “christian” radio host that homosexuals are “barbarians” who “need to be educated.” Now that the Bachmanns are in the spotlight, their attitudes about homosexuals are beginning to be noted by the corporate media.

After Cher saw the above MSNBC segment, she tweeted the following to her followers:

“Just heard Michele Bachmann’s OH SO CHRISTIAN husband talk about ‘Gays’ in the most UNCHRISTIAN way WTF!”

“But Boys please utube this asshole & tell me what u think … Cause My Gay-Dar is GOING OFF!!!”

More of her tweets are posted at the above link.

Here’s another radio interview of Marcus discussing his advice to his daughter about choosing her prom dress and how that process relates to identity.

These two are just a bundle of contradictions. Now check this out:

After a long hard day of wingnutting, what does the family of crazy-eyed Minnesota congresswoman Michele do to kick back? Well, of course, they watch Glee! Are the anti-gay Michele Bachmann and her “Christian counselor” husband Marcus hypocrites, stupid or all of these things?

Justin Bieber disappointed U.S. representative and potential presidential candidate Michele Bachmann at last night’s Time 100 by not showing up — she’d brought copies of his book to sign for one of her older sons, who is a special-ed teacher. But she did delight her other, younger children (she’s taken care of 23 foster kids over the years) by meeting another popular teen icon and singer. At the event last night, at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Bachmann and her husband posed with Glee star Darren Criss and e-mailed the pictures to their children. “We looked for Chris Colfer,” she said, but they didn’t find him. “We don’t watch TV, generally speaking. But the kids were thrilled. What kids don’t watch Glee?” Well, maybe the children of potential presidential candidates who think God sent them to stop gay people from having equal rights? Maybe Bachmann doesn’t know that the main message of the popular teen hit is tolerance, respect, and equal treatment — particularly for gay people. She doesn’t watch TV, after all.

My head is spinning!

They both look utterly ridiculous and they’re wingnuts…there’s a lesson in that somewhere.

  2. dwp says:

Cher’s ‘gaydar’ is going off because Marcus Bachmann resembles her son Chaz.

    • bostonboomer says:

My gaydar went off the first time I saw Marcus walking and heard him talking. I guess yours hasn’t been triggered?

  3. dakinikat says:

Michelle Bachmann didn’t take care of 23 foster “kids”. She fostered 23 teenage girls all of approximate baby sitting age and not since her kids got to that age and certainly none that could possibly attract Marcus, the obvious self-loathing closet case..

This man is no stranger to Lane Bryant. I’m certain.

    • bostonboomer says:

He’s a tall man and large. I’m not sure Lane Bryant would have his size. But according to him it would be “sinful” to act on “barbaric” urges anyway.

    • B says:

She always has this weird, aggressive look on her face that seems to be endemic to suburbanite housewives.

  4. dakinikat says:

this is the one that sent my gaydar off the charts …

    • bostonboomer says:

That’s the one I posted in my first post. Swishy!

      • dakinikat says:

yup and every time some one sees it, they watch him sashay and light up when he’s talking to that bald dude and they know the guy’s a self loathing closet case!

      Phoenix Woman,

Thank you. I should have credited the Dump Bachmann blog, which has done us all a great service. I have updated this post and another post with that attribution. I got the videos from youtube and didn’t know the original source.

  6. Sweet Sue says:

I wouldn’t vote for Michelle Bachmann with a gun to my head, but there’s a whole lot of body snarking and subtle homophobia going on here.
    Not like skydancing at all.
Plus, as a “suburbanite”-is that like suburban?-housewife, I resemble that remark!

    • dakinikat says:

I’m not sure what you’re seeing as homophobia subtle or otherwise. This man takes government money to supposedly cure people of what he calls barbaric behavior. He is obviously manifesting his own self loathing.

    • bostonboomer says:

      Sweet Sue,

It’s not homophobia. It’s pointing out the stunning ignorance and hypocrisy of two people who are doing everything they can to hurt LGBT people and keep them from having equal rights. What I’m trying to point out–and what I tried to point out in the lengthy post I wrote on Bachman’s homophobia is that these two people are using reaction formation to prevent themselves from getting in touch with their own inner feelings.

I strongly believe in equal rights for everyone, and I will continue to call out people haters like the Bachmanns. They are sick, evil people.

BTW, I haven’t said anything about this before, but at least one of the Bachmann’s sons is rumored to be gay. How do you he he feels about his father talking about gay people being “barbarians” who “need to be educated?”

      • dakinikat says:

One of Michelle’s step sisters is an out lesbian too. I can’t image what it’s like knowing your brother in law is on radio telling people you’re a barbarian.

      • Minkoff Minx says:

I’d like to point to Joyce Arnold, a writer at Taylor Marsh.

Particularly: Queer Talk: Barbarians, Termites and Bathrooms | Taylor Marsh – TaylorMarsh.com – News, Analysis, Independent Political Opinion on Progressive Politics

Arnold tackles a couple things about Marcus Bachmann’s comments…

First, “barbarian”? As in uncivilized or brutish? Or maybe Bachmann is thinking more of the foreigner or outsider meaning. I could certainly see him thinking “outsider,” and wanting to be the doorkeeper who maintains the purity of the “insider” space. There seems to be some hope offered the uncivilized outsider “homosexuals,” because Bachmann is talking about education and discipline. Maybe those speculations about his possible use of “reparative therapy” and unqueering are accurate. What such education and discipline looks like … well, I guess only the civilized and insiders are in a position to determine that.

One other comment by Bachmann leaps out at me, when he uses the familiar “be very afraid” tactic, by claiming that the “percentage of homosexuals in this country … is starting to increase.” Because, you know, the door to the inner sanctum of those who deserve equality isn’t being appropriately guarded. He doesn’t go to the “homosexuals have to recruit our innocent children” line explicitly, but the implication is certainly there. It’s an argument that the adamantly anti-LGBTs can’t afford to lose. They have to maintain the “it’s a choice” argument as foundational, even when some are willing to acknowledge there may be a “born with” trait that contributes to the “homosexual condition.” It’s still a “lifestyle choice,” see, because you can fight it. You can “leave” it, if you just pray hard enough, and position yourself so that your “natural” opposite-sex attraction can kick in. And if such positioning coincidentally includes some paid time at a “Christian counseling center” you and your wife happen to run …

And why is this discussion important, because:

Remember Bill Clinton saying, during his initial run for the WH, that with Hillary, voters would get a “two-fer”? Well, I’m wondering what a two-fer Bachmann presidency would look like.

    • dakinikat says:

Minx: I’ve always thought that these closet cases see it as a “choice” because they spend their entire life times fighting who they are and they have to find some sense of rationale in their hypocrisy or they couldn’t function.

  7. Fannie says:

I’ve never seen two uglier political schizophreniacs in my entire life……………..The new and the ugly just won’t work, They would have to kill me before I would ever vote for her.

  8. PJ says:

Since Michele believes that wives should submit to their husbands, I think we need to find out all we can about Mr. Bachmann. Since in effect, he would be the president.

  9. paper doll says:

oh god, more bachmann… the funny thing is, none of this matters to those who would never vote her ( me) or those who believe and support her ( whoever they are ) …. those decisions have been made some time ago. Breaking: A Repug is a raring hypocrite …but to be honest one isn’t allowed in that party if they aren’t…a test for Repugs is how strong their hypocrisy …the more outraguos it is , the farther you go in the party…seems to me .

Are any elected Dems saying doing or anything about the War on Women? I can’ty find a peep

  10. PJ says:

You can’t find a peep because there isn’t one. Sadly. I just enjoy getting digs in on women on the right who suck up to the patriarchy for the perks, but then also want to be treated as equals. It’s as illogical as having your cake and eating it too.

Of course we have plenty of examples of this same thing from women on the left – “Palin is a c*nt” t-shirts, “this is what a feminist looks like.” Again, sucking up to men for the perks, but also wanting to be treated as equals. It’s illogical. Equality for women has been backsliding for a while, and now it seems to be in high gear – starting with the ’08 primary. That’s when we lost the War on Women.

  11. PJ says:

Ironically, I think it will take men going after other men to end sexism. Just like it took whites going after other whites on racism. And it takes straights going after other straights to end homophobia.

In other words, it takes people who value the truth over a false entitlement – even if that false entitlement benefits them.

  12. Carolyn Kay says:

Isn’t Marcus supposed to be an ex-gay? Isn’t his “therapy” practice all about praying away the gay?
