Simpson Strikes Again

Alan Simpson, Co-chair of President Obama’s Catfood Commission has opened his mouth again, attacking seniors:

…because they are unhappy with his ideas for reducing the deficit by cutting Social Security benefits while reducing corporate taxes.

“I’ve never had any nastier mail or [been in a] more difficult position in my life,” Simpson told Jeremy Pelzer at the Casper Star-Tribune. “Just vicious. People I’ve known, relatives [saying], ‘You son of a bitch. How could you do this?'”

[….]

“We had the greatest generation,” Simpson said. “I think this is the greediest generation.”

Maybe you all have heard about this already–I wasn’t following the news too closely yesterday–but I just had to frontpage it. The nerve of this man! And why isn’t President Obama responding to his ugly slurs of elderly people who paid into Social Security for their entire lives? Why should we take cuts in Social Security so that rich people like Simpson can take more money for themselves?

From TPM:

The problem, Simpson explained, is the “polarized” country we live in, and the media that exemplifies it. He then to reeled off the media figures ruining America for deficit commissioners like him.

“You don’t want to listen to the right and the left — the extremes,” he said. “You don’t want to listen to Keith Olbermann and Rush Babe [Limbaugh] and Rachel Minnow [sic] or whatever that is, and Glenn Beck. They’re entertainers. They couldn’t govern their way out of a paper sack — from the right or the left. But they get paid a lot of money from you and advertisers — thirty, fifty million a year — to work you over and get you juiced up with emotion, fear, guilt, and racism. Emotion, fear, guilt, and racism.

Simpson refers to Rachel Maddow as “that.” Is that because she’s a lesbian or because she’s a woman or both?

At FDL, Jon Walker writes: Is Simpson an Obama-Appointed Bully or Sexist?

While I don’t know former Republican Senator Alan Simpson personally and can’t say definitively whether or not he is a sexist, his behavior says a lot about him. He’s repeatedly behaved and spoken in a manner completely consistent with sexists who have strong disdain for intelligent women. His schoolyard attempts at bullying women, the strange terms he uses, and his incredibly childish attempts at demeaning women who dare criticize with name calling are all trademarks of a sexist.

Walker ends with this:

I could care less about Simpson’s behavior if it weren’t for the fact that President Obama appointed him co-chair of the bipartisan President’s Deficit Commission. It’s disconcerting that Obama tolerates this sexist behavior. Why would he appoint Simpson and stay silent as Simpson used the perch Obama gave him to lash out in such a childish manner and pointedly against women?

The fact that President Obama has not yet countered any of the ugly words that have come out of Simpson’s mouth strongly suggests that Obama himself agrees with Simpson’s views. And Obama dares to call himself a Democrat?

But should Jon Walker or anyone else really be surprised? Obama is the same person who during the primaries in 2008 characterized Hillary Clinton’s experiences as First Lady as drinking tea with foreign ambassadors. He’s the same guy who suggested that Hillary’s “claws come out” if you “challenge the status quo,” and that when Hillary “is feeling down” she “periodically launches attacks.”

No one should be surprised at Obama supporting attacks on the elderly or gays either. Here at Skydancing, we can easily cite the many previous examples of President Obama’s disrespect for seniors and gays.

Alan Simpson is simply saying aloud in very crude language what the President of the United States apparently believes in his heart–if he has one.

I can understand why Simpson is surprised at the reaction from people. After all, if you put a Western state Republican on a commission and ask him what should be done with Social Security, what does anyone think he’s going to say? I don’t blame Simpson for being Simpson. He’s always been a loose cannon, and has no business being on a budget reduction commission or any other commission. He should be retired, where funny hats, and spend his days fishing. The buck stops with Obama.

Ugh! *wear funny hats, not where funny hats.

Well, it seems that for Obama to speak up and defend anyone, they have to be an elitist black male, just like him. Remember the “scene” regarding the Professor and the Cop…which led to the Beer Summit?

Obama should’ve never brought that nasty old man out of retirement!

In my long years of experience I’ve found that foul mouthed sexist fools keep it buttoned in public (but not in private) in their early years in order to progress up the ladder. Once they get to a certain point of stability in their finances, whoa. They feel exempt from all strictures because they are secure. Simpson seems to be one of those troglodytes. He got his, and now he feels he can do and say whatever he pleases. Again, in my experience, these people are borderline personalities in their youth but they controlled it. In their so called wisdom years, they feel it’s okay to let their inner assholiness shine, because who is going to contradict them. ONe other thing, I have experience with Alzheimers – my uncle, my other uncle, and I have experience with advanced alcoholism – me, my dad, my sister, my brother, my other uncle. All of them (including myself) exhibited symptoms that are similar to Simpsons – motor mouth without thought of the consequences. Just one more reason to doubt the judgement of Obama.

I don’t think you meant “borderline personalities.” That doesn’t fit Simpson. Anyway, I can’t recall any time that Simpson controlled his mouth. He’s always been like this.

BB, I’m not an expert – I defer to your judgement. He must have controlled it at some point in order to get elected,

I imagine Sourpuss Scrooge Simpson is hearing from his own constituents about his most recent nastiness because not all R’s have access to a government teat and most likely paid into the SS “entitlement”. I have not seen a poll of R’s opinion on SS, but I sure do have some R friends that feel it’s theirs til you get it out of their cold dead hands – some are retired oil VP’s who spend more time traveling outside of the country than in.

Now I don’t know Simpson or Obama personally – but from the words and actions that they produce – they do not feel another human being to be worthy of respect if they are not rich, female, or LGBT.

If I hear one more pundit say SS has to be cut back to help relieve the deficit, I’m going to scream. Most recent was Christopher Beem/Slate – MSNBC. Now I can’t even cruise through my cable news – Dubya is being interviewed like hail fellow well met – just how stupid do they think the American voter is? Simpson has never walked back or apologized for any of his hateful rhetoric. What else can we assume but that Obumbles/WH agrees or they are afraid of him?

It is my understanding that SS should have trillions of $$$, if the gov’mt paid their IOU’s. It’s medicare that has a problem and that is because of, imo, fraudulent changes(made by physicians, hospitals, nursing homes) being paid. I learned that personally – $400 for a pneumonia shot, charges for unnecessary lab and MRI’s – some never even done? Unnecessary hospital stays – I’m going to stop.

Dollars to donuts – they are going to pass something nasty around Christmas time – Simpson is the perfect Scrooge.

Easy for Simpson to say – his generation *got* their Social Security. They might have been a little less “great” and a little more “greedy” if they hadn’t.

BB, MM – be careful now if you understand me!

RalphB – thanks for that link – wish I could blame it on that. Too funny. I have only seen one person blame “foul ups” on auto correct – its a poster at TL – a koolaid guzzler with a real “bully” problem. They blame it on auto correct. Yeah right.

I actually hope that Simpson keeps up his indefensible remarks. They show a major disregard for humanity and what is decent in America. All the while that he is complaining, I’ve yet to hear anyone challenge him about what he did as a Senator to make anything better. Just exactly what did he accomplish during his 50 years in Government. And why, after we are finally rid of him as an elected official, has Obama brought him out of mothballs to influence any policy when his views are obviously set in stone and have been the same for years. Unless this is the outcome Obama wanted in the first place.

Yeah, welcome to the Obama Administration, and welcome to the liberal blogosphere. After all the horrible things that have been used everywhere from MSNBC to every blog in the world, why are they surprised now? Create an atmosphere of tolerance for all kinds of ugliness and yes, it spills over into the real world. People keep getting away with things and they just keep pushing their luck. Amazing that movements running off hate don’t result in a beautiful birth of love, respect and egalitarian public policy. Great post.
