News Conference Mania

Agent Orange just held a gloatfest for the press. Mississippi governor Haley Barbour and Senator Mitch McConnell joined in. Next big presser will be a presidential one.

What can the one say now?

I just read Ian’s call for a leftie primary challenger with a few choice representative gripers speaking up. Many missed the point completely.

There has to be a clear voice out there to rescue the liberal identity. A real liberal and an authentic democratic voice is needed to ensure there is no public confusion between the Obama vanity agenda and what a true Democratic agenda would be.

Let’s assess this presser together.  I’m hoping that the Democrats left standing will work to impress the base and offset any more presidential attempts to move to the right.

I know! Dakinikat for President! ;-). You’re looking for work, right?

“Obama vanity agenda”–love it, absolutely love it.

Ian gets it right. If for no other reason someone coming from the left gets our positions into mainstream debate and pushes the dialogue left or at the very least pushes it back. Short of Kuchinich, who many find laughable though, is there anyone out there on the lefts with both the courage and the brains to challenge the left establishment the way the Tea Party challenged their establishment?

I think the key is going to be finding someone who is perceived as a populist rather than a liberal. After all, the working class outnumbers the elites 99 to 1. I also think it will have to be someone from state government, because anyone currently serving in D.C. is going to be viewed as equally corrupt, regardless of how the voting went last night. I just can’t think of a populist governor who has the necessary name recognition.

      • cwaltz's avatar cwaltz says:

How pathetic is that? I can’t think of a single person within the Dem party that might fight for our values if it means not pulling punches on someone who they perceive as on their “team.”

I didn’t watch the whole press conference, but what I noticed was a somewhat humbled Obama. Thinking about it, I realized that this is the first election (even though he was not one of the candidates) that wasn’t handed to him on a silver platter. This is the first “loss” for Obama other than the primary losses to Hillary and he wasn’t affected by them because he knew all along that the party would see to it that he was the nominee. I guess it’s hard to be arrogant when one is surrounded by Republican sharks who smell blood.

I was talking about Obama’s press conference. I didn’t see the other.

When watching the rerun of Obama’s visit to The Daily Show – and it might be just my imagination – but I got an eerie feeling that he was trying to imitate Bill Clinton. Both his way of talking/explaining and his gestures.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that’s what we’re going to see from now on. Maybe he’ll even start taking advice from B.C.?

Yes you’re right. As the article points out, “The rise of Barack Obama includes one glaring episode of political miscalculation.”

But soon enough he learned all the dirty tricks in the book.

Oh my – everyone should to go re-read that 2007 article. Its more interesting today than it was during the primary.

I think the memes are that the Dem losses last night were not as bad as Dem losses under Clinton and that someone, anyone from the left should primary BO, just not an evil power-hungry Clinton.

CNN is talking about voting demographics. The Gender gap is gone.

        • Speaking of Clinton, is it too silly of me to think Hillary should challenge Obama 2012? I mean, she at least has Ova whereas Obama’s testicular fortitude has come under serious question here at this latest bend-over press conference (screw wondering where he was born –I’m wondering if he is even a man;)
Not being what some might call one of those “sensitive men”, I’ve been trying to get a woman elected God ever since first I heard about that Man in da’Sky with a Big Dick and Book w/my Name in It (red conduct check-marks trailing off past Pluto) …but barring that I’d settle for POTUS!
Our country has long deserved a woman President —but that piece of Handmaiden’s Tail Palin ain’t gonna get it.
Seriously though, Obama is 1’n’Done. I knew this when he came to Nola last year for a an hour and tried to pee on our heads and tell us it was Katrina, then hustled off to Daddy Bush’s 1000 Points of Light thingy.
And don’t get me started on the Fed covering BP’s oil crime. Don’t get me started… ya’heard?
          Sooooo…Hillary 2012?

          • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

You’re preaching to the choir here. I don’t think she will do it though with him in the race. She’s more likely to run if some one asks him to step aside.

Fed to Buy Extra $600 Billion of Treasuries to Boost Growth –

The Federal Reserve will buy an additional $600 billion of Treasuries through June, expanding record stimulus and risking its credibility in a bid to reduce unemployment and avert deflation.

Policy makers, who said new purchases will be about $75 billion a month, “will adjust the program as needed to best foster maximum employment and price stability,” the Fed’s Open Market Committee said in a statement in Washington. The central bank kept its pledge to keep interest rates low for an “extended period.”

I noticed that the markets seem disinterested in the mid-term results.

I need a much needed break from the pundits and editiorials that are popping up all over creation today.

Some are commenting about the almost accuracy of Palin’s picks since she got 7 out of 12 correct and this bodes well for her in the future.

Give me a freaken break! My sister in law predicted the same number and she is about as qualified to lead as this half term governor without the screeching.

And I have no idea who MSNBC will be bringing on going forward since most of who will be avaiailable at the appointed hour will be Tea Party winners and some members of the old GOP.

It could happen that Tweetie, Big Ed, and Rachel may very well end up interviewing themselves.

I’m glad I’m not the only one sick to death of the dissection of a failed Democratic Party already. Is it Bill Clinton’s fault? Is it Obama’s fault? Were his policies too liberal? was it the primary wars part deux? And the blather goes on and on.

I just want to figure out where we go from here, not rehash every single waking moment of why the Dems failed this year. Heck I don’t even affiliate myself with the Dems any longer so why should I care about the dissection of their failures? Give me policy issues or give me peace.

      • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

Can I have both peace and policy?

        • cwaltz's avatar cwaltz says:

Probably not in the blogosphere. I keep hoping to find someone who is suggesting how we move forward and most commentary has been along the lines of finger pointing and who wins the most evil democrat evah award.

I like Hillary Clinton and I am not averse to a Draft Hillary movement but suggesting such appears to have reignited the Bill Clinton is evil/ no he’s not debate. Furthermore, like yourself I have seen nothing to suggest that Sec Clinton wishes to operate outside the framework of the party and therefore do not see her challenging Obama. This is a person who after the bitter infighting chose to embrace her role within the party and take a spot within the administration. That doesn’t strike me as someone ready to participate in a smackdown when it comes to policy.

          • I’m not talking about a smackdown of Obama. He Is Gone. GONE.
We really need another candidate to energize the base who can also withstand Citizens United. Nobody seems to really be talking about THAT 437 Million Dollar Gorilla in this past election. I predict –at least– double that 2012.
Feingold, as much as I admire him, ain’t got it no way.
However, Hillary/Feingold(VP) could rock some serious progressive ass kicking.
            Jus’sayin….

          • cwaltz's avatar cwaltz says:

As far as I’m aware he’s not gone. He hasn’t said he’ll step aside. without him stepping aside I don’t see anyone within the Democratic party that actually fights for liberal values actually fighting him in a primary.

would I participate in a Draft Hillary campaign? Sure. Do I for a minute belieive that she would challenge him if he chose not to step aside? Nope. Which is why a Draft Hillary campaign should not be a sole solution to the problem we face IMO.

          • cwaltz, agreed.
I’m not saying Obama will step aside. I’m saying there is no way in hell he can win in 2012. Either he’s clueless or we’re clueless but I can tell you one thing: it was Wall Street/PHARMA/BP/Afghanistan, in the Oval Office, with a Lead Oil Rig IED Insurance Policy. He’s gone.
The only purpose that I can see he serves (and its increasingly obvious that he indeed serves) is to keep the base off guard right now.

Urk. I just gave up on the presidential press conference. When Obama declared that Americans rejected Democrats in part because “We were in such a hurry to get things done that we didn’t change how things got done,” I checked out.
