Sunday: Terence Stamp…It’s the wine it makes me sad.

The world lost this man, Terence Stamp a week ago.

Stamp was one of my favorite actors. I was introduced to him by my mother, she was fond of him as he was in one of her favorite films…Far From the Maddening Crowd.

Having seen this film, before I first saw him in Superman when I was eight years old, I knew he was a big deal.

I was lucky, my mom would take me to see old movies at the Tampa Theater when I was little…I’m talking real young. So I had already seen Stamp in Billy Budd as well as Far From the Maddening Crowd by 1978. That was when he had a small role in Superman. His larger screen presence would be two years later in Superman 2. It was his “come back” but honestly he was such a powerful actor…he never needed a come back.

There are so many films that he was in: The Collector, The Limey, The Hit, Priscilla…his career spanned decades. Be sure to read up on his work below but my favorite role is actually his first. Billy Budd.

Talk about a first role…this one gave Stamp a chance to show so many different sides to one character. It is a beautiful film. Here is Robert Osborne’s introduction to it:

You can find the full movie in YouTube.

Here are some of the obituaries and other news stories about Terence Stamp:

I know a lot of people will cite Stamp's work in SUPERMAN but, for me, I'll always champion his work as Bernie in PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT, playing the Devil briefly in COMPANY OF WOLVES, and everything he does in THE COLLECTORwww.reuters.com/world/uk/act…

Gritting my teeth as I see Terence Stamp, gone today at the age of 87, referred to as "Superman costar" in obit headlines. He was sexier, weirder, darker, so much more interesting than that. Many entry points, but you can't go wrong starting with Billy Budd (1962) and The Collector (1965). RIP.

Terence Stamp was a brilliant actor. I think he and Peter O'Toole not onlv had the most mesmerizing eyes…but delivered equally indelible performances. #TerenceStamp

What sad news about #TerenceStamp Possibly the most handsome film star in history – he was a wonderful actor too, mesmerising in movies from Billy Budd to Priscilla. Searingly honest in interviews too.

We have a lot in common JJ. My mother took us to the movies when we were very young, possibly even pre-school. We lived on Ft. Myers Beach and had to drive in to Ft. Myers. Not only were movies a great babysitter but it was AIR CONDITIONED! LOL. Our houses and cars were not then (1960s).

They had clowns to entertain the kiddies before the show and the cartoons!!!!!

RIP Mr. Stamp. I really do admire actors and what they do. He was brilliant.

Oh that is wonderful…in my case the Tampa Theater was far from a cheerful looking clown show. The place was beautiful but a bit overwhelming. It had all the gothic decor like you would see in Disney’s Haunted Mansion. It was a great place to see Nosferatu for the first time…that is one of my first memories. I’m happy we both had mothers that introduced us to film at an early age.

I distinctly remember clowns and popcorn flying everywhere! Lol

We not only saw many many Disney shows like Old Yeller they often were preceded with World of Nature shorts (never forget the paintbrush intro).

I also vividly remember Elvis and Beatles movies thanks to my oldest sister being a teenager at the time. Blue Hawaii, Hard Days Night and Help! First release in the theater!

Mom also took us to Westerns. Never will forget How the West Was Won (1962) and Shenandoah (1965), again first run in theatres.

I think the Arcade Theatre still exists in Ft. Myers. I hope so.

Terence Stamp’s death makes me feel very sad. He was one of my mother’s favorite actors. She took me with her to see “Far From the Madding Crowd” when it was first released. I was in elementary school at the time and felt so grown up watching it. That experience is a favorite childhood memory of mine. I remember he had a romance with his costar in the movie, Julie Christie. Also a romance with 1960’s supermodel Jean Shrimpton, who is pictured with him in the photo with horse. Quite the ladies man as well as a very fine actor. RIP.

Thank you for this memorial to him, JJ.

That is a lovely memory to have Beata…sharing that movie with your mom. When my mom was dying she and I would watch movies together, and Far From the Maddening Crowd was one that she wanted to see repeatedly. Terence Stamp was so beautiful and talented.

Homeowner shoots, kills 2 men in ski masks claiming to be officers, HPD says

“It was just two people and they’re masked up and no police cars, no lights or anything like that,” said Lt. Khan with HPD.

The homeowner told police the two men said they were police and claimed they were at the home to serve a warrant.

“[The homeowner] became suspicious, because, you know, they have a ring camera too, and the suspects were saying they had a warrant, but it was just two people and they’re masked up and no police cars, no lights or anything like that,” said Lt. Khan with HPD.

At some point, police said the men shot at the homeowner through the door, prompting the homeowner to return fire.

KHOU 11’s Michelle Choi spoke with a neighbor, who said they heard a total of 22 gunshots.

The homeowner was not hurt in the gunfire, but the two men were both hit and pronounced dead at the scene.

Roseland industrial plant fire remains 90 percent contained, officials say Sunday

he fire at the Smitty’s Supply Inc. industrial plant remained 90 percent contained as of noon Sunday (Aug. 24), Louisiana State Police said.

The agency said additional resources, including specialized heavy equipment, arrived overnight to allow response crews to start removing structural debris and address “covered hotspots” still burning since the fire began Friday afternoon. A containment berm is being established around the charred site.

State police said nearly 150 people, representing “all levels of government and contracted support,” are engaged in field operations in response to the burning industrial plant. To date, no injuries have been reported.

A plume of dark smoke from the fire has largely subsided, but officials still have offered no details about the black soot substance that has left an oily sheen on nearby waterways, land and vehicles.

“Environmental response efforts are ongoing in the Tangipahoa River and surrounding waterways,” authorities said in a statement. “Local, state and federal agencies, along with contracted responders, have deployed approximately 1,900 feet of containment boom in the river and 100 feet in a nearby drainage ditch. Eight airboats are supporting recovery.

“Two frack tanks, containing a combined 900 barrels of fluids, have been recovered. In the last 18 hours, additional drone surveys and two aerial assessments were conducted. As of this release, all air monitoring results have shown either non-detectable readings or levels well below health-based or actionable thresholds. Continuous air monitoring remains in place.”

A mandatory evacuation order within a one-mile radius of the incident site remains in effect, as does a temporary flight restriction stretching three nautical miles from the site and up to 5,000 feet above surface level.

To support wildlife protection, officials said a hotline has been established to collect reports of impacted wildlife. That number is (832) 514-9663. The public is urged not to handle wildlife directly, but to call only the new hotline number for response.

This morning, T claimed, “Also, I gave Wes Moore a lot of money to fix his demolished bridge. I will now have to rethink that decision??? “Let’s look beyond his Mafioso rhetoric.Funding was approved in 2024 after the collapse of Baltimore’s Key Bridge, under Biden. Congress locked in the full $1.7–1.9B before Trump even took office in Jan 2025.No new federal bridge money has been allocated since.
