Tuesday: Tea Cup Full of Sand

Hello, I’m taking a break today. My black cat Spooky…I called her Catriona, escaped on Thursday. We saw her Friday but she ran away from me when I went to get her. Then I saw her Friday night, eating the food I leave out for the stray cats. I haven’t seen her since then. She looked so feral when I last saw her, like a totally different cat. And now that days have passed and she has been absent, I’m being to feel like she is gone.
So, today just bear with me.
I feel like if I were in a desert, I would climb a high dune…I’ve already prayed to the Moon. Eyes searching the night. My cup is full of sand.

I am so sorry, JJ. Can you try to catch her using a humane box trap? You can buy one on Amazon or maybe at Petco or Petsmart. I have been able to borrow one in the past from a friend who works with the local animal shelter. They are safe for the cat. A good way to draw the cat into the humane box trap is with McDonald’s chicken nuggets placed in the back of the trap. They love those chicken nuggets. Give it a try if you can. B.
Great suggestion! I tried to use that last year to get Keely. She wound up just showing up 3 or 4 days later. I hope everything turns out okay JJ!
If I could see her around, I would try it…but she has vanished. No one has seen her. She looked like she went completely feral the last time I saw her. The day she escaped, her son was looking for her all night. But now he seems to be over it.

You definitely don’t need to see her around to catch her in the trap. Set it open with tasty food at night. Close it in the morning, remove the food and keep doing this with fresh food each night for several days or even weeks. She will likely come around when you are not watching. You’ll probably wake up one morning and she will be inside the trap. I have successfully caught many stray cats this way over the years. It rarely takes more than a few nights to catch them. Even feral cats who never come out during the day will fall for the tasty food. B.
The kind of traps I am referring to are the metal ones with a trigger mechanism. They are safe. Put it somewhere away from where you usually feed the stray cats. As close to your house as possible. Check on it often. The chicken nuggets work really well to draw the cat in. Good luck. B.

According to his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, the couple endured months of openly homophobic harassment from neighbors. They reported these threats to police which were allegedly ignored.
On the day of the shooting, a former neighbor confronted them with violent homophobic slurs before opening fire, fatally wounding Joss. The suspect has been arrested and charged with murder but not a hate crime.
San Antonio Police say there’s is ‘no evidence’ of a hate crime despite Tristan’s eye witness account and a well documented history of homophobic threats they reported to the authorities.

Trump Administration Makes New Federal Employees Write Essays to Prove MAGA Loyalty
“As the government hiring freeze nears its end, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management has released new guidelines for hopeful federal employees
While the first four months of President Donald Trump’s second term have been characterized by mass layoffs and hiring freezes, the government is about to start accepting new employees — with one major new requirement.
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management laid out the guidelines for hopeful applicants in a May 29 memo. In keeping with Trump’s rejection of diversity, equity and inclusion hiring practices, the memo stresses that the “Merit Hiring Plan” focuses on “skills-based hiring, eliminating unnecessary degree requirements, and requiring the use of rigorous, job-related assessments to ensure candidates are selected based on their merit and competence, not their skin color or academic pedigree.”
One of those “assessments,” the memo explains, is four 200-word essay questions each applicant must answer in order to prove that they would be a good fit for the Trump administration.
The questions, particularly the third, ask the applicant to prove their mettle not only through personal qualification, but also with an ideological alignment with the administration’s existing policies.
