A shopper erupted in fury and claimed anti-white discrimination after she was asked to purchase a $1 reusable bag at a Chicago-area arts and crafts store.
Another customer began recording when she overheard the woman insulting the store’s black employees and shouting about Donald Trump, reported Patch.
“I voted for Trump — so there,” the woman shouted. “You want to kick me out for that? And look who won.”
The angry shopper claimed she had been discriminated against because she was white and had voted for Trump in the lengthy rant recorded Wednesday at Michael’s in the city’s Lakeview neighborhood.
The woman, who has not been identified, noticed other customers had pulled out their phones to record her harangue, which witnesses said went on for more than a half hour, and she angrily confronted the woman whose video went viral.
“I don’t know what you think you’re videoing, lady,” the woman says. “I was just discriminated against by two black women, and you being a white woman, you’re literally thinking that that’s okay? You standing there with your baby thinking that’s okay.”
The angry shopper accuses the other woman’s 2-year-old child of stealing and then records video of the mother and child before turning her wrath back on the store’s employees.
“You’re a liar, I don’t care, because I’m a consumer,” she shouts at an employee. “I’m a customer.”
The video is the latest in a series of white people justifying their obnoxious behavior and demanding special treatment because they voted for Trump.

Well, my computer is being quirky again so we’ll have to see how long it takes to get this up today. I really need a new one badly but this year has just about done me in on all levels including financially. Right now I’m on an old HP running VISTA that’s unbelievably slow. Hopefully, the other one will come alive once it sits awhile which happens, usually. This is just another level of stress I do not need.
We keep having more mass shootings and violence. There was one here down in the nastiest part of Bourbon Street early Sunday morning. Ten people were shot with one young man dying of his injuries.
Ohio State University has just experienced another horrid attack by a Somali refugee who drove a car into a group of people then started stabbing people with a butcher knife. This will undoubtedly get some kind of play from the white nationalists. I’m just waiting for it.
Police confirm the suspect who drove a car into a crowd of people and began attacking them with a butcher knife on the campus of The Ohio State University is dead.
OSU president Michael Drake says the sole suspect drove a car into a group of people, got out and began to cut them with a butcher knife. A police officer arrived within a minute of the attack and shot and killed the attacker.
A police officer was on the scene within a minute and killed the assailant. “He engaged the suspect and eliminated the threat,” OSU Police Chief Craig Stone said.
NBC News reports the suspect in the attack was an 18-year-old student, a Somali refugee and legal permanent resident of the United States. The suspect’s name was not released and the motive was unknown, but officials said the attack was clearly deliberate and may have been planned in advance.
“This was done on purpose,” Stone said.
Mass murder/shooter Dylann Roof wants to defend himself against his outstanding hate crimes charges. Jury selection began in the trial with Roof representing himself.
A federal judge has ruled that accused Emanuel AME Church shooter Dylann Roof can represent himself in his federal hate crimes trial, potentially allowing the self-avowed white supremacist to question the shooting survivors and nine victims’ family members if they are called to testify.
Roof made the last-minute request as jury selection in his death penalty trial was set to begin this morning. U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel cautioned Roof against serving as his own attorney, noting his defense team’s considerable legal expertise, but ultimately granted the request. He noted that Roof has a constitutional right to represent himself.
“I do find defendant has the personal capacity to self-representation,” Gergel said. “I continue to believe it is strategically unwise, but it is a decision you have the right to make.”
Roof, garbed in a striped grey-and-white jail uniform, stood up front in the courtroom and answered the judge’s questions with “yes, sir” in a quiet, raspy voice. After Gergel’s ruling, he smiled slightly as he returned to his defense table but showed no other obvious emotion.
Roof then sat in the front-and-center seat as his lead lawyer, renowned capital defense attorney David Bruck, scooted over. Roof told the judge that he wanted the attorneys he’d just asked to be discharged sit at the table with him. They now will act as “stand-by counsel,” Gergel ruled.
At one point, Bruck stood to object to a potential juror after the court had moved on to consider others without Roof objecting. The judge admonished Bruck and told him to sit down and confer with Roof.
“Mr. Roof elected to self-represent,” Gergel said.
The first panel of 10 prospective jurors brought in Monday morning were all white and appeared to be middle-aged or older. Filling three rows in the audience, an all-black group of shooting survivors, families of the nine dead, and the pastor of Emanuel AME listened attentively with no outward reactions to news that Roof would be acting as his own attorney.
Trump supporters continue to terrorize and harass their neighbors
and folks that just happen to have looks they don’t like. We already talked about the appalling jerk on the Delta flight screaming Hillary Bitches at women passengers. Here’s another nasty white woman harassing black store employees.

That woman in the video is obviously unhinged! What a mean and whiny person. We are going to see far too much of this behavior — I agree with you dak.
What could I do in such a situation? Aha! “Hi there. Did Jesus say to ‘Love one another’ ?”
I can still remember some of the New Testament that was drummed into me as a kid, except I tend to remember only the “help the poor and the sick; sooner will a camel go through the eye of a needle as a rich man into Heaven; love thy neighbor as thyself” parts.
She was gaslighting the entire store. I’ve never seen so much made up crap in my life! Then, all she could do was throw insults that were ridiculous! It’s like you’re on camera for ever. People are gonna see what you just said and did. Wonder if the police arrested her ass finally.
She should never be allowed in Michael’s again. She a wanna be terrorist bitch.
If Blacky had refused to leave the store and engaged the staff in an ongoing rant, Blacky would have been shot. Just saying.
The American public has no idea of what they have elected to serve as POTUS. Not a clue.
The man is mentally ill. His constant tweets tell us all we need to know. We should be extremely wary of his ability to make sound judgments when he takes the oath next month.
The lies just keep on coming. They never stop/ How is the public supposed to separate fact from fiction especially in a time of crisis.
The press is now bent on “normalizing” this strange and delusional man. A man who just today is now stating he “won” the popular vote except for the “millions of illegals” who voted for Clinton. This is simply crazy to begin with. Who says things as insane as that? Only someone as deeply disturbed as he is.
It is nothing new since lies and distortions were what he spewed throughout the campaign. But now that he has “won” ( but not without Putin, Assange and Comey bringing up the rear) we are faced with a mentally disturbed individual who is far removed from reality.
I keep asking how this could have happened but I am beginning to accept that it did for a purpose. The GOP will stoop as low as possible to obtain power even to the extent of backing a madman into the Oval Office and will rid themselves of him just as soon as they achieve the agenda they hope to impose on the nation at large.
Donald J. Trump is not normal. There is something seriously wrong here. You cannot normalize the “crazy” which is exactly his behavior.
His “win” will be the biggest travesty ever visited upon this nation because we are far from dealing with the rational.
I have yet to meet a Trump voter that has any ability to think or reason. They’re all driven by baser emotions like hate, anger, greed, fear and loathing. They also seem remarkably unable to take credit for their messes.
All of the Trump voters I know, which are many, are the most uninformed people on the planet. They get their news from Fox, World Net Daily and Breitbart.
I know some rational, well-educated Trump voters. I think they think they are protecting their assets. “Wanting a businessman” to run the country. There may be some racism as well.
A “businessman” with that many bankruptcies! Not very rational-sounding to me.
Couldn’t agree more that the GOP backed this man on purpose and for a reason. Priebus and Ryan I hold particularly responsible — both “men” have revealed themselves to be behind-the-throne schemers and backstabbers in the finest tradition of the Dark Ages. I’d hold McConnell responsible, as well, except that poor dumbass couldn’t scheme his way out of a paper bag.
I remember during the Cheney years feeling despair and helplessness. I don’t feel that now. I’m just angry — always, always angry. There’s no waiting this one out, because all indications are that there will be no “next time.”
Watching that video in the Michael’s store, I wanted to get in that woman’s face. She doesn’t appear to be drunk (like the hillbilly on the Delta flight), maybe she’s just off her meds. I’ve been seeing comments at some places lecturing about how we have to be understanding of people like this, how it’s not right to argue with them because “you catch more flies with honey.” Let them rant, the reasoning apparently goes, because other people will be shocked by their behavior. Yeah, that worked for the election, didn’t it? They’ve been behaving badly (although generally only while penned up like cattle) for the last 18 months, and they don’t intend to stop now.
Despair leads to paralysis. Fear leads to helplessness and passivity. Don’t give in to it. Stay mad – it is the only way we are going to be able to mobilize to fight back and re-take our country and way of life. If we give in to the fear, they are going to stomp all over us, and use the trump time machine to take us back to ancient Rome.
Pat, thanks for saying everything that’s been bouncing around in my now addled brain.
Pence and Ryan will be running this show, pushing their right-wing agenda through Congress. I expect to see a President Pence before 2017 is over.
Good guess.
Whether live, on FB, or twitter, Trump voters are the angriest winners I have ever seen. It’s as if it turned out that Trump winning wasn’t enough, that it didn’t change their world one bit or on some level they have figured out what a huge mistake it was to vote for him but they can’t admit it. When Obama was elected, his voters were happy. Trump voters will never be happy.
That is just it. Their major motivaton is anger, hatred, bitterness. They hated Hillary. They hate minorities. They hate the government. They hate the Congress and the courts. They hate everyone who they think has taken away something from them. They are filled with self-loathing and then they project it onto others.
They and Trump cannot abide losing the popular vote. So they make up and believe that they actually won it. It gives some sense of accomplishment to their lives, and mostly they think it will upset the Hillary supporters. Getting Trump elected was never enough for them. They want people and cities to burn.
Lol, i just basically typed that same thought right up top and hit enter at about the same time you did!!!
Congruent minds, or something like that! 🙂
Yes, William, I believe he just wanted to prove that he could win, and oh no, now he has to do the work, but doesn’t want to or have the foggiest clue as to how to do it.
His supporters kept saying they wanted a change, but by voting the way they did they now have exactly the same congress, senate and a republican president to boot – all of what got them where they are. Of course the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome – HELLO – now you have what you deserve you knuckle heads- I’m sorry – I just want to shake some sense into them.
Apparently, right wingers have always been this way…
http://www.salon.com/2016/11/17/sore-winner-syndrome-why-are-donald-trumps-supporters-still-so-angry-abraham-lincoln-understood/
Perfect example of a no-win situation.
Let’s face it, a lot of Trump voters are just plain dumb. They don’t know the basics about government, history or the world around them. They don’t read except maybe the sports page or recipes in “Good Housekeeping”. They have Fox News on all day, often playing in the background, and listen to it mindlessly. They latch on to bits and pieces of Fox “news stories” without being able to comprehend them.
A Trump voter I know is convinced that Jordan is waging a nuclear war against us. In fact, she says it has “already started”! She heard the King of Jordan talking about it on Fox. She probably did hear the King of Jordan talking about something on Fox but she couldn’t understand it. I’ve tried to bring her to her senses about this but the poor dear has no sense. She’s not an angry or hate-filled person. She’s just dumb.
That all of this was going to happen, was obvious. Except I guess not to the media, who either thought they could gleefully get away with trashing Hillary because she would eventually win, and then they could attack her more as president; or were so blinded by the lure of ratings and money, that they gave away the republic as part of the bargain. Of course, from what I read (I won’t watch them any longer), they are still doing it. Or maybe they are literally scared of Republicans, their politicians and voters, so do whatever they want.
Everything was at stake, and the media didn’t tell people that. Politics as entertainment show. Now come the consequences of their emai orgy. Whatever is done as resistance to the occupying forces, had better be done without counting on the media to help at all. There is a reality, and then there is the media purveyed reality, and they increasingly are diverging. Was it Leonard Cohen who said decades ago, that the difference between the real living world and that portrayed by media, was never more stark, or words to that effect? Maybe it was someone else, but the statement stayed with me. It is even more disparate now.
What I’m still having a hard time processing is how this country was so easily conned and so eagerly ready to follow, defend and even shower a person as despicable as Trump with devotion. These people detest the media! But they bought every Infowars/Breitbart conspiracy about Hillary out there.
I am just so bitterly disappointed in the people of my country.
The media is certainly culpable – particularly the hate radio and Fox News contingent and their rich corporate friends. The media didn’t fail – they succeeded brilliantly.
but, Enheduanna, it wasn’t the country, more than 65,000,000 of us did not vote for him. It’s the Electoral Congress that’s the sticking point
I’m just appalled this wasn’t a landslide for Hillary considering the kind of person Trump is. That over 60 million people accepted his racism, misogyny and hate. Hate and anger elected him – by the tens of millions of votes. I just had no idea there were so many of us willing to give in to indecency. I thought enough right-leaning voters would reject him. When a man can laugh about his sexual predation – and get elected POTUS? That is a rubicon too far for me.
They were frustrated, as are we all; but they just didn’t understand that his angry words and lies really couldn’t make the right changes, and thus they made the situation even worse. I’m guessing that it’s not quite bad enough to push people to think it through before striking out.
Solutions come slowly and often painfully.
Sorry about your computer, Dak.
You know, it’s the usual black screen of death.
David Petraeus for Christ’s sake.! Trump ran on “lock her up” while this asshole gave “secrets” to his mistress!
How is he going to get through a hearing? You can’t make this stuff up!
But what Petraeus did was just Pillow Talk so you can’t get between a man and his mistress. What Hillary did was talk business and not notice the marking (c) on 3 out of 650k emails. Treachery!!!
Besides, Petraeus has a penis and he’s white, so that makes him OK if you’re a bigoted white man.
Oh yeah, the penis is also the excuse for everything. As a child I was taught by Priests, the Sisters of Mercy and the Dominican’s that men simply could not control their sexual urges, therefore it was MY responsibility to not “tempt” them with my words, my looks, my dress, my walk, my mood and WHATEVER else they could think of. To my great surprise it seems that most of the men and about half of the women in this Country still believe some aspect of that ridiculous point of view. Donald Trump “pussy grabbing” in the words of Melania was just “boy talk”. A 70 year old man being excused for sexual assault by calling it “boy” behavior. Not hardly!!!!
He’s got a broke dick is what he’s got.
Quite a mockery, isn’t it? One thing to always be sure of: nothing Republicans ever say has any meaning beyond their immediate goal of winning. They will contradict everything they have ever said with a straight face, and pretend that somehow this is different. And I’ve never seen it backfire on them in a major way. The media might feel a bit embarrrassed by this, given that they acted as if emails was the story of the century, but they’ll find a way to rationalize it.
Exhibit A: Typical Trump voter:
The Trump voter I mentioned above is on Medicaid and gets Food Stamps. She is a heavy smoker and has had cancer twice. When I told her before the election that a Trump administration is likely to gut those programs, she laughed and said, “They couldn’t do that.”
Oy
That’s how they think! I had someone tell me they voted for Trump because they have a son in the military and they don’t want him to end up in Syria and have to fight ISIS. I said “OMG, you didn’t pay a bit of attention to Donald Trump, did you?” He’s threatened war against Iran for Iranian Sailors flipping the bird at U.S. Sailors. He basically promised to go into Syria with guns-a-blazin. The truth is these fools WILL NOT admit what they really voted for or against. They voted against Mexicans, Muslims, African Americans and LGBT. Many of them also couldn’t stand the thought of a WOMAN becoming POTUS. What they voted for was deportation, Muslim registries, putting Black people on the margins and overturning ROE, LGBT rights and gutting the Voting rights act. That’s the TRUTH. Donald Trump gave voice to their prejudices and they joyfully jumped on his white nationalist bandwagon. But none of them seem too happy about it now that it’s here. They’re all a bit worried that he may actually FUCK THINGS UP. And he will!
Well, we’re all reeeeeally good at saying “I told you so!”
HA! I said the same today.
Believe me when Trump sends her son to Syria or some other god forsaken corner of the globe to fight some ridiculous war, I want need to say I told you so. But I will say I told you so to all of those folks I know who voted for Trump who rely on the very programs and services that the GOP will soon be attempting to strip away. No senior or disabled person in the U.S. could afford healthcare with vouchers. I’ve read enough to know that when we lose Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid the ACA and SCHIPS most of us are up shit’s creek. There will be revolution when he and the GOP start fucking with those programs.
The Trump voters I know all shop at the General Dollar Store. They are located about every 50 miles apart, till the next town. Outside their homes, signs read “Trump that bitch”.
Good grief.
I’ve met 6 women so far, who voted for drumf; a realtor, the wife of an ex CEO for JP Morgan, whose husband had Alzheimers, the wife of a retired firefighter, two cardiac nurses, and a hospital administrator. They all bought the garbage about Clinton. They were all excited by drumf. One was muslim-Indian; another, south seas, the rest white. So, the first two had issues over “illegal” immigration, one was horrified that babies would be torn from wombs a day before birth, a nurse had guns and wasn’t giving them up, the other nurse thought child care deductions were the way to go, and stuttered when I told her she would lose her current tax credits and drumf deductions in one year (Her child will turn 13.), and the last just wanted to tear things down and start over. Petit bourgeoisie. Actual news never reached them because they all watched FOX. So ignorance appears to be a more complicated problem, as much related to who controls the information, as it is education, or income.
Scary and discouraging. Voting against their best interests and that of their children! These people aren’t thinking things through.
I’ve been listening to more songs of resistance and defiance and plain ol’ keeping on. Here’s one, and yeah, Bruce is the original songwriter, not Jerry.
The great Odetta, singing from a wheelchair, near the end of her life:
We had Odetta’s albums at home when I was growing up. My parents admired her so much. I vaguely remember my father talking about working with her early in his career, but I was so young, I don’t recall any of the details. Everyone who would remember is gone now.
Odetta! What a proud heritage, to have a father who worked with Odetta!
I always thought she was one of the coolest people on the planet.
Here is at least a bit of hope for the fufure. It did come from an article by Greg Sargent in the Wapo, but I never got through linking class, so I can’t provide it here. The essence is that there are about 39 or so gubernatorial races in 2018. Many of them will be open, because the Republican governors who swept in during the “shellacking” of 2010, have been termed out. It is easier to win against non-incumbents, of course. So if Democrats really work hard, and somehow make sure that the would-be suppressed voter can get his or her ID, even if we have to set up funds to pay for them, we have a chance to turn some states. And with the census in 2020, control of statehouses means control of districting. Someone estimated that in some of these states, flipping statehouse control could mean 3-4 congressional seats per state. So a major showing in 2018 could win us the House back by 2020. Also, it might prevent major voter suppression laws. I know it’s a long time away, and does not assuage the current mood, but it does provide the path to a major reversal in the next cycle. Now, if we don’t get that, then we may want to look for a new country or planet to live in.
Thanks, William.
I won’t be around that long. You’ll have to carry on the fight without me.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2016/11/25/can-the-democratic-party-rise-again-yes-and-heres-the-first-big-thing-to-watch/?utm_term=.2a68e65fe458
Excellent article.
Why winning 2017-2018 gubernatorial and other state races is of such importance to Democrats ( from the link ) :
“Winning back states could have a big influence on policy. It’s likely that Democrats will mostly be shut out of governing in Washington for the next four years, so winning back ground on the state level may represent their best — and only — chance to have an influence over policymaking. We’ve already seen that Republicans recognized the policy importance of doing that at a time when Democrats controlled the White House — witness their blockade on the Medicaid expansion in many GOP controlled states, as well as draconian GOP fiscal policies in places like Kansas and GOP blows to voting rights and unions in places like North Carolina and Wisconsin.
Now this could become extremely pressing for Democrats. If Trump and Republicans modify Obamacare while block granting Medicaid to the states, increased Dem control on the state level could potentially mitigate the damage where possible. Meanwhile, progressives have had some successes on the state level on issues such as the minimum wage, and the state level may afford the only opportunity to further showcase progressive policies in the Age of Trump.”
I fully agree with Howard Dean’s “fifty state strategy”. No state should be ignored by the national Democratic Party or considered “unwinnable”. ALL states are winnable. I also believe, as Dean does, that the DNC needs a full-time chairperson going forward. I’m not positive Dean is that person but a part-time chair like Keith Ellison won’t get the job done.
Agree!
Ignore my “I’m gonna lie down and die” attitude last night.
I’ve got my mojo back today. Let’s do this thing, people!
Yep!
http://gothamist.com/2016/11/28/delta_bans_trump_moron.php
Delta banned Trumpbilly
That bastard should have been thrown off the flight before it ever left the ground. We need to find out WHO HE IS so we can go after his job.
Oh Hell No, Tom Price of Banjoland has been selected to HHS……………..first thing on his agenda, dismantle medicare.
I can hear the wheelchairs, the walkers and the canes rattling now, not to mention all of us hobblers who WILL take to the streets when they come to take it away or Voucher it. They will attempt to take Medicare/Medicaid and the AFA as well as the VA Medical system and when they do that they’re going to see an uprising like they never imagined. Not only will Seniors rebel, but Gen X’ers will rebel also because the care of the people who rely on these programs will fall directly to the families, those lucky enough to have families.
I hope you are right, Mouse. This is terrifying shit.
This is what the GOP has always been after, destroying so-called “entitlements”. Watch what Pence and Ryan do. Trump is a smoke screen.
Sometimes “the rules” are not the right guide. Sometimes following “the rules” is disastrous, in which case they should not be followed. Saying, “Well, it sets a bad precedent for the future” is a foolish argument, because the present is very much at risk, as is the future. So there are times in history when people, particularly those with the power to do something, must go against common procedure or “rules.” There are officers who have disobeyed superior officers’ orders, and maybe some of them were cowards or rebels, but some of them were heroes. And that is a decision one must make. JFK wrote ‘Profiles in Courage,” and there was a TV series which told about each example from American History. What we need right now, is some real profiles in courage, from electors, from statesmen and stateswomen, from people who might have the power to stop a trainwreck from happening, rather than saying, “well, it would be bad form,” or, “there would be a riot on the other side,” or, “It reflects the will of (a minority of) the people,” and then standing back and letting the train crash, and trying to rationalize that the wheels were already in motion, and it wasn’t their responsibility or role to stop it.
Yep.
Thank you for your positive comments on this thread, William. They were inspiring and uplifting.
( P.S. That Alford guy, not doing so bad, huh? )
