Election Night Live Blog #2

That’s Hillary finishing a speech in the rain in Florida.

Here’s a fresh thread as we continue to watch the returns. North Carolina is looking very good for Clinton right now. Remember she doesn’t need to win Florida, and if she wins North Carolina, Trump won’t have a good path to 270. He also needs to win a blue state, and I don’t see a good candidate. Hillary is way up in Michigan and Wisconsin. She could still pull out Florida, because there are votes still out in high Democratic areas in the southern part of the state.

A lot of votes are still out in Broward County in FL. We’ll have to wait because they are always slow coming in.

    • joanelle's avatar joanelle says:

And it will be even slower this year because of the huge numbers of voters this time around

Hillary might win Ohio and lose Florida, which no one was expecting. I certainly wasn’t

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

She doesn’t need either one as long as she gets the blue states. I’m just worried because Michigan and Minnesota are too close to call. But so are a lot of other states. We just have to wait it out.

      • Beata's avatar Beata says:

Minnesota really worries me. I wondered why Trump was campaigning there late. They must have had some internal polling that showed he had a chance. Same with Michigan. Hillary was there, too, when it seemed unnecessary.

Now waaait a minute. Don’t let your nerves take over the frontal cortex. He seems very intelligent, not self-promoting at her expense, and he even has a sense of humor. He’ll do.

And she’ll win. The only question is whether she gets the Senate.

          • Fannie's avatar Fannie says:

she is up now, a little bit, but up.

          • Quixote–hi, I wish we were reuniting under less uncertain conditions at this hour. But it’s still wonderful to see you after all this time. 🙂

I’ve held off on nerves much longer than most–for this entire election, but I’ve known all along there is a core misogyny wall that won’t go away easily–

I wasn’t surprised by what the FBI did the last week and a half of the election. I knew that part of the human/American psyche would not go gently into the night. I didn’t panic. I cheerled my mom–just two years younger than H and very attached to her –to just stick with H, not panic before the clock goes out.

She may win Virginia narrowly of the most narrow of margins–I hear fox called it for her(?)–not holding my breath at all.

Regardless–Not exactly the most cost-effective thing to have him on the ticket when we could have used all the energizing amongst people of color and women we could get against the Misogyny Wall. That’s just my feeling, that Liz Warren or Julian Castro could have done more. He may make a fine VP yet, if she’s won VA we’re hanging in–by a thread, but we’re still in.

          • quixote's avatar quixote says:

Hi Mona! Yeah, the misogyny is deeper and fatter and denser and everything than I ever thought, and that was even yesterday, when I thought it was pretty bad.

I just haven’t given any thought to a Cheeto-topped Dogpile tyranny. It didn’t seem possible. It still doesn’t in any real sense. But, well, reality doesn’t have to be believable, unlike fiction. It just is.

Let’s hope it’s something bearable when tomorrow dawns!

Hang in there. That’s to you, me, and everyone!

Old jobs lost in the rust belt aren’t coming back. It’s a serious Trump lie that may sink Hillary. Robotics, automation, tech work will take off in the future replacing human workers. She said in WV the coal jobs aren’t coming back.

    • Enheduanna's avatar Enheduanna says:

She was right – that is 19th century technology. It’s the second week of November and we haven’t had a cold snap here in Georgia YET. Trump cannot win – we are doomed for sure if he does.

  26. William's avatar William says:

It doesn’t really matter who is most to blame, but the media normalized Trump. Hillary had a big lead, and the media didn’t want that, and they had so much fun attacking Hillary, so they made it look as if emails were more important than issues. They never even talked about issues. People think that Trump has a populist oriented tax plan, instead of the billionaire favoring plan he has. The media never disabused them of this absurdity. They let it play out. It’s their game. They did it to Gore, and Kerry. But this will be the worst one of all.

  36. ANonOMouse's avatar ANonOMouse says:

In the words of President Obama “there’s a reason why we’ve never had a woman President”. I’m not throwing in the towel and I’m sure Hillary isn’t either, but there are multiple reasons why this night is going this way and the MSM is no small reason why. I agree with William that they normalized Trump in order to keep us tuning in night after night to watch their coverage. The GOP Congress beat Hillary over the head with Benghazi and from Benghazi sprang the emails/server. They beat her to a pulp for nearly 3 years and in the process created the impression of untrustworthy, liar, deceptive, criminal. The MSM played along because it was good for ratings. And last, but certainly not least, SHE’S A WOMAN! That my friends is the entire story in a nutshell. Still it ain’t over til the fat lady sings and I will have hope until there is a reason not to. If this ends badly life will go on and America will get the government it deserves, BREXIT on steroids. My daughters and granddaughters have been calling me constantly asking me to reassure them that Hillary will win. It is their future I care about, I basically have little future left. But I told them that regardless of the outcome that they should sleep well tonight knowing they did everything in their power to help their country make the right decision. And life goes on!

  37. contrask's avatar contrask says:

This is just so wrong. Hillary is so good, so right to lead us. Trump is so wrong, so vile. I can’t stand it and don’t understand it. It’s not even going to fel good telling people in a year “I told you so”

  38. William's avatar William says:

Hillary would have won had it not been for Comey. But of course we learn that the entire system is rigged. FBI, media. Too many bad or stupid people in positions to influence too many ignorant voters. I would say that despire the millions of good people, there is something sick in our country. Maybe it is the world, as white nationalists are rising all over Europe. Interestingly, most of the Republican incumbents are winning. Billions of dollars spent because a fixed Supreme Court ruled in Citizens United. A Supreme Court seat that Obama wasn’t allowed to fill. Republicans vowing to stop any Hillary appointee. You can’t have a country which runs like this.
