Wow!!!!

What more can I say! This has been an amazing night. Paul Simon was amazing. Cory Booker showed why he may be President someday. Michelle Obama was just magnificent. Next up, Elizabeth Warren.

Here’s a fresh thread to keep right on discussing what’s happening in Philly.

Is it mean-spirited that I’m glad Bernie won’t get to speak in prime time?

  2. mablue2's avatar mablue2 says:

If Bernie tries to deliever his old tired stump speech, I want him to be booed off the stage.
He has the obligation to make a very strong endorsement and tell his lunatic followers to go pound sand. He did build that. He never ever denounced them no matter what they said or did.

  3. Boo Radly's avatar Boo Radly says:

I am so happy to be watching – feel proud of our Dems!

  4. Ralphb's avatar Ralphb says:

Michelle Obama was absolutely dynamite. Maybe the best all around speech I’ve heard in years. She connected at the pure gut level. Simply magnificent!

  5. Jslat's avatar Jslat says:

Michelle Obama was terrific! Warren is good attacking T-rump but not as inspiring as Michelle.

And then we will have to experience the Bern…. oh well.

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

I just can’t get over how brilliant Michelle was. But Cory Booker stole the show as far as I’m concerned. That man will be president some day.

      • Tmarie's avatar Tmarie says:

I am so glad I’m watching our convention tonight. It has been fabulous. Attacking Trump. Validating that our country is great, AND can become greater. Democrats have become the people who have faith in our country. Cory Booker, Michele Obama and Elizabeth Warren were all magnificent.

I agree, he took us through our history, and back.

  6. Ron4Hills's avatar Ron4Hills says:

The Bernt messed up Senator Warren’s rhythm.

OMG, is Keith high? Something is off….

Please please be a stand up guy Bernie.

  12. Jslat's avatar Jslat says:

OH GAWD! Not the same old lines again!! And he is not asking them to cast their votes for Hillary!!!!!

He doesn’t have the grace of Hillary. She never would have done this!!

  13. Ron4Hills's avatar Ron4Hills says:

If I wanted to watch an old man ,um, indulging himself there is the rest of the internet . Geez, what is the point of this.

  14. Vger's avatar Vger says:

He better not do any damage. He walking on a thin line.

  15. Pat Johnson's avatar Pat Johnson says:

I cannot abide someone screaming and waving their finger at me. Give it a rest.

Get to the point, Bernie. Endorse.

Is Sybil the Soothsayer up after Howard Beale finishes being As Mad As Hell?

  17. Pat Johnson's avatar Pat Johnson says:

    At last!

  18. Jslat's avatar Jslat says:

    Finally. A
    Hillary must become President

  19. Fannie's avatar Fannie says:

All right, carry on Sanders, Hillary Clinton understands, let’s pass it on to her, and let us carry on together to defeat Donald Trump.

  20. janicen's avatar janicen says:

It’s interesting the attention being given to the Berners in the hall. I seem to remember that the Hillary holdouts in ’08 were dismissed as “bitter” and “dead enders”.

    • Jslat's avatar Jslat says:

This bitter deadender remembers it all too well!

      • NW Luna's avatar NW Luna says:

Yes from another bitter deadender. But Sanders is male — that’s the difference.

    • Valhalla's avatar Valhalla says:

Yeah, it’s pretty difficult not to compare the two. I certainly don’t remember us Hillary supporters getting this kid glove treatment in 2008. And I certainly don’t remember the media crawling all over themselves to highlight our support of Clinton. And I absolutely positively don’t remember Hillary’s delegates behaving like spoiled children on the floor of the convention center. I guess I’m not quite is over it as I thought I was! Mostly now in 2016 I am just trying to revel in the fact that it looks likely that she will finally be my president. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have the occasional flashback of bitterness.

      • joanelle's avatar joanelle says:

I had the same thoughts, Jslat & Valhalla – the immaturity of the Berners just made me want them to get the heck out of there. Yes, it’s the same old Bernie.again, and again, and again.

  21. janicen's avatar janicen says:

I’m watching on a delay so I’m about 10 minutes behind, but Bernie just said, “I look forward to your votes during the roll call tomorrow.”

The piece of crap is not going to release his delegates and tell them to vote for Hillary. He has no class. No honor. He is what my mom used to call, “common”.

    • Jslat's avatar Jslat says:

Patience☺he does manage to fit Hillary into his stump speech. Not graceful b okay I guess.

      • janicen's avatar janicen says:

Thanks, I know he does, but it doesn’t sound like he’s going to encourage his delegates to vote for Hillary. He’s got to have his ego fed first.

    • Fannie's avatar Fannie says:

I heard that, and yes, I was sure I heard it too.

  22. janicen's avatar janicen says:

Speaking of class, I notice that the Hillary supporters aren’t booing him. Like Michelle Obama said, “When they go low, we go high”

  23. Fannie's avatar Fannie says:

Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton, will become our President! Bill Clinton, stood up, and we share that spirit, we will proceed with this convention, and with much happiness, knowing that we are with HER, because what she will bring to our families, to the world around us. The woman who is going to lead us through this revolution, as President, and make it possible for all to have better lives, for all of us, men, women, children, all of us.

  24. bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

I keep thinking back to Hillary’s graceful speech in 2008.

  25. Ron4Hills's avatar Ron4Hills says:

Hillary Media-Fire-Storm-Born, of House Clinton, First of Her Name,… Breaker of Glass Ceilings,… Mother Healthcare,… The UnBernt,… President of the United States,… Queen of the Pant Suit Nation,… Ruler of Hillaryland and Defender of the Supreme Court and the Constituion.

  26. Beata's avatar Beata says:

I guess you all didn’t hear the same Bernie Sanders speech that I did. Oh, well.

    • janicen's avatar janicen says:

That seems to be the case.

    • Ron4Hills's avatar Ron4Hills says:

I thought Bernie was a little weak to be honest. Oh well. I did not expect much.

Cory Booker and Michelle Obama hit it out of the park.

I loved Al Franken and Sarah Silverman as well.

I love Elizabeth Warren too, but the Heckle-bots got to her a little tonight.

A dozen or more of the early speakers nearly brought me to tears. I am so glad I went to C-Span where the focus was on the speakers and not the punditry.

All in all, great first night.

    • Jslat's avatar Jslat says:

      Different strokes….

    • NW Luna's avatar NW Luna says:

Not so much Sanders as his rude followers, whom he doesn’t draw into party unity and working to support Hillary and defeat Trump.

  27. Fannie's avatar Fannie says:

Final Words: What a tremendous line up of platform speakers, and I was feeling good until the lady who says she is going third party, what bullshit. What bullshit, another Ralph Nader, another Iraq.

  28. Boo Radly's avatar Boo Radly says:

Jeeessh – that old stump speech made me swear. Can’t wait to view tonites speeches again to reenforce my joy in my Dem party! Rid myself of BS. And stop watching the media now interviewing his creepy supporters.

  29. Valhalla's avatar Valhalla says:

OK, I know I should shut off MSNBC. But since the end of the speakers, they’ve interviewed three Bernie supporters in a row who still refuse to support Hillary, and Chuck Schumer. All the Bernie supporters sound like idiots. I know I am obviously biased against them but really truly, trying to be objective, they sound like morons. I freaking hate MSNBC. I think it’s definitely possible that in hundreds of hours of coverage this week they will manage to not speak to a single Clinton supporter. I bet it’s written into their contracts.

    • janicen's avatar janicen says:

I liked the part where the whole panel agreed that Bernie deserves all of these concessions because “He got 43% of the Democratic vote”. Err, doesn’t that mean Hillary got 57%? Isn’t that a pretty big deal?

      • Valhalla's avatar Valhalla says:

Oh god, yes. They made much of Sarah Silverman’s you’re being ridiculous remark, but Sarah could’ve easily said it to the entire MSNBC panel. Anyone who hadn’t followed the primaries and just tuned in to their coverage tonight could not be blamed for thinking that Bernie Sanders was actually the nominee based on how much attention they are giving to him and SOME of his supporters.

      • NW Luna's avatar NW Luna says:

And it’s all so glaringly obvious compared to the ’08 convention.

  30. Vger's avatar Vger says:

The majority of Bernie supporters will go with Hillary. Those who go to a third party have that right but have essentially chosen to sit in the stands and not play on the court. The message I heard today was for people to come together and play the game. I admire those who play and don’t opt for the cheap seats.

  31. janicen's avatar janicen says:

Sounds like Rachel is trying to say the problem isn’t Bernie, it’s his supporters. Maybe, but Bernie got them to this point by being a petulant egomaniac and now they are acting like petulant egomaniacs and Rachel wants to let Bernie off the hook.

    • palhart's avatar palhart says:

Just before the Democratic Convention began, Rachel said she thought Claire McCaskill, who is out campaigning for Hillary NOW, would have been on Hillary’s VP short list. She has forgotten that Claire supported Obama after her children clamored that she must. Hillary and I have long memories and we know who our true friends are. Bust your butt now, Claire!

      • janicen's avatar janicen says:

Yes, I remember Claire McCaskill in ’08 very well. However, Claire was on Morning Joe this morning and was a strong Clinton advocate and spoke very favorably about her. I guess that’s politics for you.

  32. ANonOMouse's avatar ANonOMouse says:

No……What happened was Bernie spent months whipping a fury against Hillary through innuendo and accusation. Now he’s having to pretend like he never said those things. He lit a fire and he’s having a tough time putting it out. This was predictable, but I do believe that before we hear from Hillary on Thursday night. This will be a tempest in a teapot, as is Bernie. One thing I would do for sure, is bring Sarah Silverman out there again to lecture the Bernie or Bust fools. She was on target!!!

    • janicen's avatar janicen says:

I don’t believe he was really trying to put out the fire. He loves the fire. If he wanted to put out the fire he would release his delegates to vote for Clinton and tell them he was going to vote for Clinton. Remember Hillary standing with the NY delegation in ’08 casting her vote for Barack Obama?

      • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

If you look at his remarks this morning (read my post), you’ll see you were right, Janice.

    • Jslat's avatar Jslat says:

I too enjoyed Silverman telling the Bern’s they were ridiculous. However, scolding or lecturing them really doesn’t work because they are “right fighters” who are soooo wrapped up in their righteousness they never hear any other voices but their own.

Ignore as best we can and hope each state delegation can calm them down. Modifying their behavior going to be key.

  33. Ron4Hills's avatar Ron4Hills says:

No need to reiterate my opinions of Morning Joke and Mika …..

Her compare of the first day of the DNC and the first day of the RNC. One word.

    “Chachi!”

    Priceless.

    • janicen's avatar janicen says:

I saw that. LOL! They were swooning over Michelle’s speech too. I could watch that speech again and again. It was a game changer.

  34. janicen's avatar janicen says:

    OMG I love this!
