Good Evening Politics Junkies!

Today’s another busy day for the candidates on both sides of the aisle. There probably won’t be many surprises, although no one seems to have any idea what will happen in Nebraska on the Republican side.

Ted Cruz has already won Kansas, which has large population of evangelical Christians. Cruz is addressing his supporters right now. I’m going to give that one a miss.

As we all know already, Bernie Sanders will likely take Kansas and Nebraska and gain some delegates, but Hillary Clinton is expected to win Louisiana overwhelmingly and that will wipe out the gains Sanders makes today and then some. Right now Clinton is 199 pledged delegates ahead of Sanders and she will add to that total tonight. We’ll have to wait awhile though, because Louisiana’s polls don’t close until 9PM ET.

Here’s some background information on today’s contests at Vox: Elections 2016: Today’s poll closing times and results.

Washington Post: Ted Cruz wins Kansas caucuses as 3 other ‘Super Saturday’ states vote in GOP contest.

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, who has sought to present himself as the chief alternative to GOP front-runner Donald Trump, secured a strong victory in the Kansas presidential caucuses Saturday, according to a projection by the Associated Press, as voting and ballot counting continued in three other GOP contests.

With 53 percent of the vote counted, the Associated Press called the victory for Cruz (R-Tex). He led Trump with 49 percent of the vote to 25 percent for Trump, according to the AP.

he 2016 election pressed forward Saturday as five states held presidential nominating contests across the country. Dubbed “Super Saturday,” Republicans are also voting in Louisiana and are caucusing in Maine and Kentucky. Democrats are voting in Louisiana and are caucusing in Kansas and Nebraska.

The presidential race entered a new stage Tuesday after real estate mogul Donald Trump (R) and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton (D) secured victories in a majority of the 11 partisan primaries and caucuses held that day, when hundreds of delegates were at stake. Clinton — the Democratic establishment favorite — has pulled sharply ahead of rival Sen. Bernie Sanders, while Trump’s wave of populist support showed little sign of waning even as he has endured scathing attacks from GOP leaders.

The fallout from Saturday’s contests will again pitch the election forward, as Clinton and Trump’s rivals seek to keep them at bay by maximizing their delegate counts. The two front-runners, meanwhile, are looking to protect their leads and to sustain their momentum ahead of a series of high-stakes, high-delegate races in mid-March.

Drumpf hasn’t killed millions. So there’s that. But the comparisons to Hitler bother me … for being unfair to Hitler. Hitler actually had ideals — horrible ones, but he did believe in a cause larger than himself. Probably, perhaps, Drumpf couldn’t do as much damage as Hitler, being a mere dishonest, self-absorbed, gross, carnival barker. So maybe it’s a weird kind of blessing that in some ways he’s a lower form of sewage blockage than the 20th century’s worst mind.

Here’s an interesting article about the financial scandals at Burlington College where Jane Sanders was president until she had to resign in 2011. They’ve gone through two more presidents since then.

I was thinking of the many governors, like Brownback, and Scott Walker, and Raunder in Ill, who rode into office when we had the lowest turn out of voters. I like that Hillary is going to change this, and really work for younger people to really get involved at all levels of government.

        • janicen's avatar janicen says:

Geez! CNN said Bernie’s wins in NE and KS are expected because they are all white with very few Democrats and few delegates so who cares? lol!

          • ANonOMouse's avatar ANonOMouse says:

Hillary’s campaign knew she would lose these 2 caucuses and the Maine caucus tomorrow. Still, she will walk away from these contests with more delegates than Bernie. Tuesday she will kick his ass in Michigan & Mississippi and a week later she will whip him in FL, IL, NC, OH (Haven’t seen any polls from MO so that one is sketchy)! Regardless, after the 15th this thing is basically over. But Bernie will persevere without a chance to win because that’s what he does.

Omaha is around 14% black and whites altogether are around 73% So, I would have thought a few precincts might have shown differently. On the other hand, Omaha is the home of Malcolm X, born not too far from where my GM had a Chiropractic office.

            • janicen's avatar janicen says:

She got 46% there so it’s not like she got skunked. Also remember that NE is a caucus so working poor people are generally excluded since they can’t devote half a day or more just to vote.

          • ANonOMouse's avatar ANonOMouse says:

And that’s what I hate about the caucus process. It locks out a segment of society that works weekends and/or can’t stay at a caucus site for several hours. The DNC needs to get rid of them altogether and financially assist those States that can’t afford a primary. There was a lot of early voting in NE and those folks were likely people who couldn’t be there because of work or older & disabled folks who can’t take the rigors of the caucus.

  24. bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

MSNBC interrupted Hillary’s speech so they could have a long discussion about Hillary yelling into the mike. Lawrence O’Donnell and Chris Matthews are such fucking assholes.

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Oh, and then they had a long discussion about how none of this complaining about Hillary’s “tone” is about gender.

      • I couldn’t believe it when they cut away to complain about her voice! Goddamn it, she was saying important stuff about getting younger people involved, I really wanted others to hear it.

    • janicen's avatar janicen says:

What? I was watching CNN and she looked tired and sounded like she needed to give her voice a rest but I wouldn’t characterize it as yelling. Those two ass clowns need to STFU.

Gawker: Voicemails Reveal Donald Trump’s Cozy Relationship With the Liberal Media

Early Thursday morning, Gawker received an anonymous email with an attachment that purported to contain recordings from Donald Trump’s voicemail inbox. Among the recordings were messages left for Trump by various celebrities—most notably, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, and Tamron Hall.

While Gawker was unable to independently verify their authenticity, the recordings certainly appear to be genuine. In addition to those from the MSNBC personalities, there were messages from longtime Barack Obama advisor David Axelrod, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, and boxing promoter Don King, all of whom spoke to Trump in a friendly and familiar manner.

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Voices belonging Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, the co-hosts of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, also appear in one message, the date of which is not clear. The message suggests that Trump has contributed to some sort of public or private charity event involving children.

BRZEZINSKI: Hi, Donald. It’s Mika and Joe calling. Say hi, Joe.

SCARBOROUGH: Hey there, Donald. How you doing?

BRZEZINSKI: We’re just leaving you a message because we’re trying to get in touch with you, but you must be, like, on your jet or something. We’d love to talk to you, so call one of us. What’s your other number, Joe?

SCARBOROUGH: I’m at [REDACTED]. And the kids want to scream “Thank you,” to you, Donald. Say, “Thank you, Donald.”

      CHILDREN: Thank you!

SCARBOROUGH: We are so, so grateful for everything, Donald, and we just want to call you and tell you how much it means to us.

BRZEZINSKI: It was amazing. Thank you, Donald. Hope to talk to you soon. Bye.
(We have redacted the voices of the children from the audio presented above.)

Update: In a series of tweets, including one which he deleted, Scarborough confirmed that the voice is his, and that that the message was related to a charitable donation from Trump.

    AP live blog:

    9:41 p.m.

Bernie Sanders may have won Nebraska, but he won’t be gaining ground in The Associated Press delegate count after Hillary Clinton’s victory in Louisiana.

With 51 Louisiana delegates at stake, Clinton will gain more than half — at least 28.

That margin will make up for her loss to Sanders in Nebraska.

In that state, Sanders will pick up at least 14 and Clinton will receive at least 10.

Also voting on Saturday were Kansas Democrats. The party says Sanders won that caucus but hasn’t released vote totals.

Including superdelegates, Clinton now has at least 1,104 delegates by the AP count. Sanders has at least 446. It takes 2,383 delegates to win.

    • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

We actually had that as our guiding strategy. We were told to work to extend the lead her so much that Kansas and Nebraska would be irrelevant. Guess we did that! I called Shreveport by midday. Many of the black voters I spoke with had no idea who BS even was!

  29. roofingbird's avatar roofingbird says:

Kansas is now reporting 100% with Sanders 68% vs Clinton 32%
