Live Blog #2 Super Tuesday

This is a great night for Hillary Clinton. In a couple of weeks, she will have a clear path to the Democratic nomination for President. She has already made history though; she is the first woman ever to get this far.

We are still waiting on results from Massachusetts, Colorado, and Minnesota; so here’s a fresh thread to continue the discussion.

WaPo: Super Tuesday Democratic Primaries: Clinton Projected to Win in 6 States, Sanders in 2.

LA Times: Trump wins five primaries, Cruz takes Texas and Oklahoma; Rubio’s best is 2nd place in Virginia.

ABC News: Exit Polls: Clinton Expands Base; Trump Sells Outsider Image.

Yeah, he’s gonna make Apple computers, make computers here, and millions, and millions, and millions, and millions, did you hear me, millions of jobs are going to be created. Paul Ryan better get on board, or he is going to have to pay a BIG price, a big price, did you hear me, a big price.

      Oh shit, I’m friggin’ dizzy.

I haven’t turned the TV on tonight. I’ll watch highlights tomorrow. I just cannot bear to watch one more pundit going on and on.

  4. Valhalla's avatar Valhalla says:

Omg, everyone is still showing Trump going on and on. I finally found a local station nit showing Trump.

  5. bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

58 percent reporting in MA and Clinton still leads by 4.

    • Valhalla's avatar Valhalla says:

It looks like she is inching up to a 5 pt lead, I am feeling more confident. Although I did originally think she’d take it by 10.

      • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

The suburbs should go to Hillary. I’m pretty sure she’ll win now. Maybe not by 10 tho.

      • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

That fact that Hillary won by so much in Brookline and Newton is bad news for Bernie.

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

More than 60% of Boston in and Hillary is leading there. Looking good.

  6. William's avatar William says:

Hour long Trump press conference and now Cruz speaking, and then the network going on and on about the Republicans, and they are missing what looks like a very good win in MA for Hillary.

  7. roofingbird's avatar roofingbird says:

VT is close with Trump 32% to Kasich 31% and 66% reporting. Rubio is still ahead of Cruz in MN.

  8. bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

    Arkansas goes to Trump.

  9. Pat Johnson's avatar Pat Johnson says:

Is there anyone more distasteful than Ted Cruz? Ugh!

  10. Pat Johnson's avatar Pat Johnson says:

I want to go to bed but I am waiting to see MA go officially to Hillary.

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

I’m staying up till I know for sure about MA. I’m tired though.

One good thing, Pat. Hillary is crushing Bernie in Springfield. He’s ahead in West Springfield.

      • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

The Western suburbs where I live have only started to come in. Unfortunately Cambridge is still barely counted either.

        • Valhalla's avatar Valhalla says:

Yeah, what is up with that? That is making me nervous. But Worcester hasn’t come in at all yet, I’m counting on them as an offset if Bernie wins Cambridge.

          • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

I accidentally started posting on the previous thread. lol.

Hillary is still leading by 3 with 75% reporting. Boston is almost all reported and she is winning by nearly 17 pts. She won Lexington about 2 to 1, that should be a good sign. A lot of the western suburbs are still out, and she should win those, I think. Bernie is winning Cambridge and Somerville, not surprising. He’s also winning in Watertown.

          • Valhalla's avatar Valhalla says:

BB, I think what you said about Colorado — guns — explains most of rural Mass going for Bernie too. He has some really big margins, but most of the town don’t have a lot of voters (less than 1000 in my hometown). Also more independents, and a lot of VT border towns.

    • Riverbird's avatar Riverbird says:

I’m staying up to hear the MA results.

    • Fannie's avatar Fannie says:

      me too

  11. roofingbird's avatar roofingbird says:

MN has just gone Sanders @ 59% to Clinton @ 41%, and 15% reporting

  12. roofingbird's avatar roofingbird says:

I don’t get CO, it’s mostly the rural areas that are going Sanders.

  13. janicen's avatar janicen says:

I’m amazed at how slowly the results are coming in. WTF is going on in MA? This seems to be taking an awfully long time to finalize the results.

    • minkoffminx's avatar JJ Lopez Minkoff says:

What is the totals now for Mass

      • janicen's avatar janicen says:

About 51% to 48% with Clinton leading by about 30k votes but Worcester is the holdout and might be the tipping point.

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

There are a lot of people here and lots of little towns.

      • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

76% reporting and Hillary still leads by 3.

      • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Hillary won Worcester by 2 points. Bernie needed that one. I think the holdup is that Cambridge is still being counted and that should go to Bernie. I don’t think it will be enough though, because Hillary won very big in Boston and and she’s winning the western suburbs by quite a bit.

        • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

So far only one precinct reported from Cambridge and Hillary won that. They can’t call it until they have Cambridge counted, because Bernie should win there.

        • janicen's avatar janicen says:

That’s good to know. The A.P./NYT is showing no results from Worcester yet.

  14. bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Clinton now leading by only 2 points with 79 percent reporting. Eeek!

  15. bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Are Bristol and Plymouth Co.s rural? They are competitive.

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

They are down near the Cape. It’s over now. Even Cambridge went for Hillary.

  27. janicen's avatar janicen says:

Excellent night. Hillary did very well but CNN says it’s still a tight race. 😀

  28. roofingbird's avatar roofingbird says:

Wapo just sent MA to Clinton!!!!!

  29. bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Cambridge went for Hillary! I guess all those college students were too busy to vote today.

  30. roofingbird's avatar roofingbird says:

Well I’m confused, they are showing Sanders as the winner with fewer votes than Clinton in MA 48% to 51% with 91% reporting

  31. bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Hillary won Provincetown 65-34. That’s a gay mecca down on the top of Cape Cod.

  32. roofingbird's avatar roofingbird says:

Peggy Noonan really is a jeweled cockroach. A GREAT PARTY IS FALLING APART. It has to be violent to get rid of the teabaggers.

  33. bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

After tonight Hillary is ahead of Bernie in pledged delegates by 182 or more. The Bernie bros still think he can win, but they are threatening to primary Elizabeth Warren because she didn’t endorse him.

    • RalphB's avatar RalphB says:

Warren might as well have endorsed Hillary. The crazed Bernie cultists have thrown her under the bus anyway. Jeez, they’re really hateful little trolls.

      • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Did you hear Bernie bros posted thousands of abusive comments on Warren’s Facebook page?

    • NW Luna's avatar NW Luna says:

What a bunch of whining sore losers. Maybe they should look at their candidate. Or better yet, direct their hate at defeating the Republicans.

    • Valhalla's avatar Valhalla says:

Lol. I dare them. The dudebros have a seriously over-inflated sense of their own importance. Warren’s political career is hardly theirs to make or break.

I really think that a lot of the core ‘bros are the same crowd who were so miserably misogynistic and hateful in 2008. Unfortunately, since they were for Obama and he won, they have mistaken correlation for causation; they think he won because of them. They now seem to feel that their support or opposition actually influences events of national importance.

I try to take a page from Hillary’s book and have some dompassion for them in their disappointment, but they make it really hard.

It will be interesting to see all the breakdowns tomorrow. I saw on Twitter that Clinton rocked almost every category in Texas.

  34. roofingbird's avatar roofingbird says:

    Nite everyone! Yey!!!

  35. William's avatar William says:

Networks either can’t, or refuse to, understand that caucuses are not the same as primaries. Hillary won by an enormous amount of votes today, and Sanders won his home state, two caucus states, and Oklahoma. That does not equate to a close contest.

    • NW Luna's avatar NW Luna says:

      Absolutely. Caucuses are not representative.

    • janicen's avatar janicen says:

Very few people understand the nature of caucuses. Unless you’ve been to one you are likely to believe the “true democracy” B.S.

      • Dee's avatar Dee says:

Agree, In my caucus state there is no provision for voting absentee. I have been phone banking and many Hillary supporters are unable to get to the caucus. It is heartbreaking to talk with them.

One woman told me she is 101 and loves Hillary but has not been able to leave her assisted living facility for anything over than doctor’s appointments for years. She added that she intends to still be around in November and will vote absentee in the general.

We need a new Voting Rights Act.

        • janicen's avatar janicen says:

Exactly. Military personnel serving overseas, elderly, disabled, and working poor who cannot afford to take a half day or even a whole day off are excluded from the process so caucuses tend to be made up of affluent white voters more than anyone else.

  36. List of X's avatar List of X says:

Speaking of the other MA primary, I find it interesting that Trump got the highest vote share in MA primary than in any other state so far.

  37. roofingbird's avatar roofingbird says:

    AK is going Cruz @ 34% to Trump’s 33% with 60% reporting.
