Whiney Rick “The Dick” Santorum Wants Secret Service Protection

Rick Santorum is terrified because a few Occupy Tacoma protesters heckled him at a rally a couple of days ago (see video above). Three protesters, including a women who threw glitter at the candidate, were dragged away by police but not before the two men were tasered. From the Washington Post:

Republican presidential contender Rick Santorum is exploring Secret Service protection following a rowdy rally in Washington state earlier in the week.

Santorum says it’s “a sad state of affairs,” especially after he spent several weeks campaigning in a supporter’s pickup truck. But for his family’s sake, he says, he’s in discussions with the Secret Service.

Santorum hosted an outdoor rally adjacent to the campsite of Tacoma, Wash., Occupy protesters Monday night. They chanted and yelled during most of the event. Two protesters were dragged away by police.

Reflecting on the experience after another campaign stop Tuesday night, Santorum says it’s unfortunate that some people “can get a little rowdy and sometimes a little violent.”

The only violence I saw in that video was by police. I guess glitter bombing is considered “violent” nowadays.

Santorum is also worried about the Romney campaign plan to “take him down.” Reportedly it will be even worse than what they did to Gingrich

Romney, who allowed Restore our Future to do his negative work in Iowa, has long since given up any apparent worry that voters will react badly to negativity, and complains of unfair attacks don’t seem likely to deter him here.

“The expectation is that Santorum, just given his personality, is going to whine like crazy about this,” the advisor laughed.

In anticipation of the Romney attack, Santorum has released a new ad called “Rombo.”

Daily Beast Election Oracle: Why Romney can’t seal the deal:

To determine its favorability ratings, the Election Oracle tracks 40,000 news sites, blogs, message boards, Twitter feeds, and other social-media sources to analyze what millions of people are saying about the candidates—and determines whether the web buzz is positive or negative. That rating is weighted, along with the Real Clear Politics polling average and the latest InTrade market data, to calculate each candidate’s chances of winning the Republican nomination. (See methodology here.)

Romney’s malaise, likely, is the result if an uninspiring vision and a shaky economic message. The latter accuses President Obama of economic malfeasance but unravels a bit each time the economy shows signs of life. The governor’s biggest liabiity continues to be his moderate policies as governor he now disavows, including expanding health care and supporting a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion. Former rival Rick Perry said over the weekend that Romney needs to admit his past mistakes, not spin them.

Odds are Romney will still win the nomination. The Election Oracle shows his chances of wrapping up the prize are still almost twice as high as those of his next challenger, Santorum. But Romney’s whiplash favorability online might be a much bigger problem in the general election. Constant break-ups then make-ups are symptoms of a bored Republican base unwilling to accept what may be inevitable.

Is Romney Going To Run Out Of Money?

Mitt Romney is running out of rich people.

The former Massachusetts governor’s gold-plated fundraising machine has depended almost exclusively on big checks from the wealthy individuals — business leaders, Mormon allies, longtime Republican Establishment donors — whom Romney and his team have been cultivating for years, pressing the cases that resonate for those crowds: That he’ll cut taxes; that he’ll beat Barack Obama; that he’s inevitable and they’d better get on board.

But Romney has proved unable to tap into the emotion-driven small-dollar contributions that helped power Barack Obama in 2008, and which fueled even his more Establishment rival, Hillary Clinton, this time four years ago when she too began to run out of big donors. The result: Republican fundraisers say that despite his success so far, they think Romney is fast approaching a wall, and that he will likely be forced to pay for the campaign out of his own deep pockets.

Some of his big donors don’t like Romney much either now. 🙂

Hmmmm… Now that’s interesting. I guess he has enough money to fund his own campaign if he wants to.

I didn’t know Rick Santorum’s campaign was about hate on women and LGBT and continued support for those that caused the economic crash in Wall Street. It is no wonder he isn’t releasing his taxes. I think Rick Santorum is a MILLIONAIRE just like all the other congress people in Washington ala Newt Gingrich the LobbyStorian.

      • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

He’s never made any secret of it. All he ever did in Congress was related to anti-abortion nuttery. Santorum is a millionaire in the sense that he’s worth more than one million. He’s not as rich as Romney or Gingrich. He made most of his money as a lobbyist after he lost his Senate seat–that was largely because of his behavior in the Terri Schiavo mess.

As broadcasted on Cenk’s show last night, Santorum took millions in fees from both the healtchare industry and the oil and gas industry when he left congress.

He is indeed a millionaire with “inside the beltway ties” and a history as a spokesperson for both those industries when he was serving.

In one year alone he made over $400,000 for sitting on a board of a healthcare corporation who was eventually sued for holding back services to the troubled youth they were expected to care for.

“St. Rick” is not so sainted after all.

As of last year, Santorum was worth about $2.5 million. Romney’s wealth is around $250 million. They’re not comparable.

I still think there may well be some Lobby related items he is trying to re-name…so if he made money Lobbying I think he should produce the returns. There really should be a ban on congress working as lobby interests for big business.

Rick Santorum’s Wife Karen Sued Doctor For $500,000, Despite Senator’s Calls For Tort Reform

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has advocated capping medical malpractice awards at $250,000, but in 1999, his wife sued her doctor over a back injury and asked for twice that amount

Colbert Performs Dramatic Reenactment Of Obama’s ‘War On Religion’

Stephen Colbert, devout Catholic, despises President Obama’s “war on religion.” The administration’s rule that health insurance companies provide contraception coverage is basically “forcing priests to hand out condoms at mass,” Colbert said Tuesday.

And Colbert won’t let it stand. Because when you use contraception, Colbert said, “you are not only sinning, you’re cock-blocking the almighty.”

Colbert is hilarious in this segment.

I hope they assign every gay agent in the Secret Service to protect Santorum.

That’s a really great piece and I think Romney has one problem that I don’t know how he can overcome. It really appears that the more people see of him, the less they like him.

As a politician you can rewrite your speeches, change your clothes, even tweak your platform. If people just don’t like you, none of it will do any good.

I adore Charlie Pierce – and the people who comment at his place are hysterical!

I love that Santorum is acquiring the “whiny” tag. He deserves it.
