Mitt Romney Gets Kiss of Death from Al Gore

Via the Atlantic Wire, today Al Gore wrote a brief post on his blog in which he praised Mitt Romney for not changing his stance on global warming.

Gore linked to this story at the Washington Post

From the Washington Post dealing with a question asked at a town hall meeting in New Hampshire on June 3.

It seemed like a straightforward question on a second-tier issue: Would Mitt Romney disavow the science behind global warming?

The putative Republican presidential front-runner, eager to prove his conservative bona fides, could easily have said what he knew many in his party’s base wanted to hear.

Instead, the former Massachusetts governor stuck to the position he has held for many years — that he believes the world is getting warmer and that humans are contributing to that pattern.

Gore wrote:

Good for Mitt Romney — though we’ve long passed the point where weak lip-service is enough on the Climate Crisis.

While other Republicans are running from the truth, he is sticking to his guns in the face of the anti-science wing of the Republican Party.

The question of candidates’ views on global warming didn’t come up in the debate on Monday, but a number of conservatives took note of Romney’s comments. They aren’t happy, to put it mildly. Here’s what Rush Limbaugh had to say:

“Bye-bye, nomination,” Rush Limbaugh said Tuesday on his radio talk show after playing a clip of Romney’s climate remark. “Another one down. We’re in the midst here of discovering that this is all a hoax. The last year has established that the whole premise of man-made global warming is a hoax, and we still have presidential candidates that want to buy into it.”

It appears that Romney has decided that avoiding flip flops is going to help him more than kowtowing to the right-wing crazies.

“The fact that he doesn’t change his position . . . that’s the upside for us,” said one Romney adviser….“He’s not going to change his mind on these issues to put his finger in the wind for what scores points with these parts of the party.”

Good luck with that, Mitt.

Why are modern Republicans so science ignorant?

Beats me. But the fact that Romney is leading in the polls suggests that most Repubs aren’t as insane as the Tea Party gang. Unfortunately, Repub primary voters are more likely to be insane.

I’m glad to know that Al is alive and well. He’s been MIA lately.
Do we even know if he and Tipper are divorced?
We’ll see if the Repugnants are totally batshit insane or not.
Do they want a chance to win or would they rather be “right” than president?
As for me, I’ve pretty much decided to vote green for prez.
I will vote for my Democratic senator-Sherrod Brown-who is a really good guy.

You’d think that Mitt being compared to Jimmy Carter would have gotten Rush all hot and bothered. Maybe since it was said by GOP Lindsey Graham, it is not seen as the kiss of death.

Jon Huntsman, the stealth candidate from Utah, also supports the science, has said climate change is an “urgent issue” [I can almost see the fringe getting the vapors] and said of the GOP debate:

“full of historical error, economic obfuscation, avoidance of hard truths and even outright bigotry,”

My, oh my. A GOP soon-to-be candidate who refuses to pander to the whack-o-doodles. Despite POTUS claiming he’s losing sleep over the country’s economic tailspin [note the profusion of gray hair to prove the point], Huntsman could indeed make Obama’s days and nights very restless.

Could get interesting! The man has quite an impressive resume. Of course, the Republicans would need to give up the nonsense: the Muslim fear-mongering, the rejection of science and the historical rewrites. That’s a whole lot to swallow. But if Huntsman caught fire, put forth moderate, sensible policy ideas, he could beat Obama. People are desperate for someone who’s competent and has the gravitas to lead the country out of the swamplands. Also, someone who isn’t nuts.

    Could be interesting.

As for Mitt? I’ve never seen such an unpopular frontrunner. I almost feel sorry for him. Almost. And yes, Gore gored him good.

All the unending environment stuff that has been happening and Gore is as hard to find as Big Foot….But he comes out hiding to put the kibosh on Mitt. From this I surmise: The Powers That Be want Obama to run against the tea Party clown car Wing of the GOP so BO will be reenstalled …. and Mitt is too good to be nominee and a danger …Mitt’s too good!? Help us

Isn’t this such a cute Romney story?

    Romney: ‘I’m Also Unemployed’
NYT’s The Caucus, By Jeff Zeleny, June 16

Tampa, FL — Mitt Romney sat at the head of the table at a coffee shop here on Thursday, listening to a group of unemployed Floridians explain the challenges of looking for work. When they finished, he weighed in with a predicament of his own.

“I should tell my story,” Mr. Romney said. “I’m also unemployed.”

He chuckled. The eight people gathered around him, who had just finished talking about strategies of finding employment in a slow-to-recover economy, joined him in laughter.

“Are you on LinkedIn?” one of the men asked.

“I’m networking,” Mr. Romney replied. “I have my sight on a particular job.”
