Somewhat Instant Karma

I’m not usually into tabloid style headings unless they provide some cautionary tale or lesson.  I will admit to feeling  smug about this one:

‘I’d kill myself first!’ John Edwards ‘suicidal’ over facing jail, claim pals

I know there are small children involved, yet still, there are so many things about the justice served raw here that I’m trying to remind myself of those Bodhisattva vows.  I’m going to dish some dirt since we’ve learned that the National Enquirer is as much of a news source as CNN.  The link comes from The Daily Mail, however.

Disgraced politician John Edwards is said to be deeply depressed – to the point of being suicidal – over the prospect of a criminal trial that could end with him being jailed if found guilty.

The 57-year-old former Presidential candidate reportedly told a close friend: ‘I won’t go to jail. I’d kill myself first!’

He has lost 20lb in the last year and is a ‘broken spirit,’ reports the National Enquirer.

According to the Enquirer, a close source said: ‘I think John is suicidal. He knows that if he’s indicted, prosecutors will try to get him to serve jail time and make an example of him.

‘He’s absolutely despondent over the fear of prison.

‘Over the last year, he’s lost about 20lb and friends are concerned that he’s escaping reality with booze.

I still remember when he announced his candidacy for the Presidency near my house a few years back.  The kids were so precious.  Recently deceased Elizabeth Edwards was still fighting cancer.  I was eager to share my cancer experience with her.  I had not figured out exactly who I would support but after a few years of post-Katrina New Orleans, let me tell you, the Two Americas theme ran really true to me.  I guess that’s what good speech writing and years of practice as a trial attorney can do.  It can hone your speeches and up your sincerity factor.

The first few things that started really turning me off to the man was that hair do thing and Iowa. I watched Bill Richards, Barrack Obama, and John Edwards conspire to remove votes from the people in Michigan and Florida to up their chances of taking out that horrid upstart woman with the cankles.  I started associating Edwards with words like smarmy, insincere, and egoist.  So, isn’t interesting that all that narcissism and self indulgence wearing the mask of social justice has finally caught up to him?  He’s just a whining boy now. Part of me wonders why– with all the sex scandals in the beltway–this one fresh hell for one man seems so sweet?  It’s not like I wouldn’t like to see any of the serial adulterers in the Senate or Congress strung up for insincerity or lying.  David Vitter is sadly my senator and wreaks of evil intent and selfishness.  Maybe that’s it in the final analysis.  I expect nothing but evil intent and selfishness from David Vitter and I expected more from John Edwards.

So, I’ll leave you to discuss this. I will probably head to the mat and meditate on the Path of Bodhisattva while trying to beat the thought “Man up!” out of my monkey mind.  He reminds me of the bully next door who got caught drug muling one load of about five of marijuana runs at $250k a pop, then cried like baby every night on the phone to his pothead girlfriend when they finally threw him in jail.   She used to throw the phone at me to listen because it so repulsed her.  She married him anyway.  Goes to show you what years of pot abuse can do to your judgment.  What was that about not doing the crime if you can’t do the time?

Ah, never mind …. om!

I guess I later wondered how he and his wife thought the Republicans would not point out his affair. How would they win.

Oh by the way am I right in remembering that Edwards and Richardson colluded to split the vote in Iowa, hence Hillary not winning as expected.

Is he marrying the gal he had the affair with. If he goes to “the big house” will she drop him?

I think they thought no one would say anything if they could shut their own staff up. Wasn’t the whistle blower a dem staffer?

I’m pretty sure the Obama campaign helped out Edwards. Specifically David Axelrod.

Exactly. JE role , from the start, was to tag team with Obama to punch out Hillary during debates …to have EE chip in by taking snips at Hill on the health care issue and then fold the tent throwing his “support” to Barry…all which happened . He was never really running…and I’ bet he was told it would stay hushed up if he did as he was told…and they went back on that…of course

when I now read he’s ” suicidal” I think of the Mafia bosses who suddenly have a heart condition when a trial looms

For really justice, I believe she should face the music too, because she was the beneficiary of the funds that were obtained from seniors and some ill donors. Hunter, got her man, and got him plenty of time. I have always suspected that the tipster that tipped the Enquirer was Hunter herself.

A bit OT, but I just saw this: Officials: Suicide victim at Cape Cod camp was employee accused of abuse

An employee of a Christian summer camp shot himself to death today just days after he became the focus of a criminal investigation into allegations that he sexually abused a camper during the 1980s, officials said.

In a joint statement released this afternoon, Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe and Sandwich Police Chief Peter Wack said the man was dead when he was found near his vehicle on the grounds of Camp Good News this morning.

“He was the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound,’’ the officials said in the statement. “This individual, an employee of Camp Good News, was the subject of a recent allegation of abuse of a child. The allegation was of an historical nature.’’

The dead man’s name was not released by authorities. But Boston attorney Mitchell Garabedian, who represents a camper who brought an allegation of sexual abuse in the mid-1980s at the camp to prosecutors on Monday, said the employee was Charles “Chuck” DeVita, 43, who is listed on the camp’s website as part of the leadership team and director of the physical plant.

okay, that comes under not so much instant but karma nonetheless …

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Too bad. Now none of the victims will get justice. And trust me, there are probably a lot of them. This guy worked for the camp for about 20 years or more.

There’s still justice to be found…a number of people had to turn a blind eye to what he was doing for decades.

Boehner’s approval rating is dropping like a stone.

Boehner’s backing himself into a corner with the way he’s limiting where the budget cuts can occur and changing the amount he wants continually. Democratic Leadership needs to call him on on all his antics. I did think I heard Barney Frank make some comment about Mad Hatters and White Rabbits, but some one needs to line out how this jerk has shifted ground continually.

If Edwards goes to prison, they have special suicide watch cells that will cure him of his suicide ideation in a heartbeat. You get a pretty orange onesie to wear and no combs or toiletries allowed. He will also have an unhappy prison guard staring at him 24/7. That has been the most effective antidepressant I ever witnessed.

The VA does provide cost efficient care. If a vet doesn’t think he/she is getting good care there are patient advocates to contact. The best patient advocate of all is their Congressman who sends a nasty gram that needs to be answered by administrators. Try getting that at the Cleveland Clinic. Their billing department alone is enough to drive the most rationale person over the edge.

John been caught up on himself for years, and has stayed that way, I can only hope he goes broke too.
