Is the U.S. Government Interested in Right Wing Domestic Terrorism?

Leland Yee

California State Senator and San Francisco mayoral candidate Leland Yee has been receiving death threats from right-wing nuts for “more than six years.”

In the past couple of days, Yee’s office has received more than one copy of the following threatening fax, which also includes slurs directed at President Obama:

From the San Francisco Chronicle:

Mayoral candidate and state Sen. Leland Yee said racist death threats were faxed to his San Francisco and Sacramento offices today. They appear linked to his recent criticism of right-wing commentator Rush Limbaugh.

The anonymous faxes, laced with racial epithets and misspellings, were addressed to “JoBama Rectum Sniffing Moron LEELAND LEE” and call Yee a “fish head,” according to a copy provided by Yee’s office.

The faxes include a drawing of a U.S. flag-adorned pickup truck towing a noose that is looped around what appears to be a caricature head of President Barack Obama. The document says: “Without exceptions, Marxists are enemies of the United States Constitution! Death to all Marxists! Foreign and Domestic!”

The threats apparently are in response to Yee’s criticism of Rush Limbaugh for ridiculing the Chinese President Hu Jintao’s speech at the White House last week. Watch the video:

Yesterday, Sen. Lee gave a press conference and called for a stop to the racist, violent threats has been receiving by fax, e-mail, and text message.

“I thought our country and our community were a lot better than this,” Yee, D-San Francisco, said at an afternoon news conference in the Hiram Johnson building at 455 Golden Gate Ave.

[….]

“To see, and to hear, and to receive these kinds of horrible statements and racist threats is truly angering.”

According to the article “detectives are investigating.” They previously “investigated” faxes that were sent after Sen. Yee criticized CSU Stanislaus for shredding documents regarding the amount of money paid to Sarah Palin for a speech.

What does it take to get the FBI and/or Department of Homeland Security involved in the “investigation?” We know that the NSA can and does track the communications of American citizens–without a warrant if they are characterized as “terrorists.” Yet the claim is that no one “knows where the messages are coming from.” Come on. Don’t tell me there is no way to trace the origin of these faxes and e-mails.

What is going on here? The FBI has no qualms about breaking down the doors of peace activists, but they won’t deal with racist death threats to a California public official?

That fax is shocking! I hope the FBI are after who ever sent that.

From the articles I read, it sounds like just local police or state police are investigating. With the references to Obama, they sent the threats to the Secret Service. Why the FBI hasn’t been brought it–especially after the Tucson shootings–I do not understand. Lee has been getting death threats like this for more than six years!

I thought the DOJ had the hate crimes act now to enforce? Does something have to actually happen above threats for it to kick in??

I would have thought that the FBI or at least CBI would be brought in long ago. They have to be able to track that fax. This is so damn disturbing.

That’s probably why they don’t act. Getting them for six years is a pretty good indication that the chickens–t morons who send them most likely won’t do anything.

And as for that fax, I didn’t see anything but insults. It’s probably a (successful) attempt to unite people across the land in moderately-outraged tut-tutting.

This is one reason why there is no longer a chance to have a “meeting of the minds” when it comes to US policy. Look at what is coming from some of the “minds” that would take the time to do something as egregious as this.

Please do not tell me that these “talking heads” do not influence these events. A man addresses the incivility of Rush Limbaugh’s stupid bigotry and becomes a target for this malicious behavior.

We are just one step away from a major event where a public official becomes a “sacrifice” to the poison these morons send out over the airwaves, Twitter, and Facebook while they “hide” behind the Free Speech clause washing their hands of blame.

There is something terribly wrong with those who continue to cast aside the words of these horrible people without once ever suggesting that they are disgusting. Rush will continue to bleat his poop over the airways until he is finally and convincingly brought to heal.

This is no longer “free speech” but an act of domestic terrorism that should never be tolerated.

By this, do you mean an assassination or assassination attempt?
This has already happened, not as a result of the racist poison, but the misogynist poison sent out by said morons. I am referring to the attempt on the life of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords by the mentally ill misogynist Jared Loughner.
You are right, this could also happen to someone like Sen. Lee as a result of the racist poison, and for all practical purposes it really doesn’t matter if the person is mentally ill or not.

That fax to Lee – unbelievable. Do these people really have any idea of how ignorant and racist they sound? Hard to believe this is the 21st century….

As I recall towards the end of the campaign she basically refused to speak and that was due to the fact that when she had spoken she said things she believed in but that the voters were taken aback by. I think she is just trying to keep in the lime light.

If they can send someone to infiltrate the peace movement, they certainly should be able to infiltrate right wing domestic terrorist groups and bring to justice those who are threatening Sen. Yee and others too. It’s a really bad sign that that’s not happening.

    STAND WITH BRENDA

Brenda Namigadde, a Ugandan lesbian in the UK, faces deportation TOMORROW back to the life-threatening persecution she fled eight years ago.

We just found out that one of the leading figures in the LGBT movement in Uganda, David Kato, was murdered yesterday in his home. This awful tragedy makes clear what’s at stake for Brenda if she is forced to return.

Will you join more than 10,000 people in 85 countries and sign this urgent letter pressuring U.K. Home Secretary Theresa May to stop Brenda’s deportation?

I think we are going backwards as a collective society. Sometimes I wonder if there isn’t something to the Winter Solstice in 2012.

No one knows where the faxes came from? What about the print report button on the frickin machine. Faxes have memory capability and it would appear to be more than some of our “investigators”.

After our wonderful evangelical Christians had a summit in Uganda preaching about the sinfulness of homosexuality, it is now punishable by death. A local newspaper printed the photos and addresses of suspected homosexuals or those involved with protecting the rights of the Ugandan LGBT community blatantly asking them to be hunted down. David Kato was one of those persons. The fact the the UK is even deporting anyone back to Uganda is obscene and criminal. The US evangelical Christians responsible for the attacks and deaths in Uganda should be held accountable.

Actually, that fax just looks like a really bad joke.
