Open Thread: Post-Christmas White-Out

A couple of Sky Dancers have sent in snow pics! If you would like to add yours to this post, please send your photos to skydancingblog@gmail.com. I’ll update the post as I get more pics.

Joanelle sent these gorgeous shots from NJ:

The following photos were contributed by Delphyne, who also lives in NJ:

That's snow hanging off the roof!

Buried cars

This one is from Fran in Northern CA:

Timber Crater

A photo submitted by Minkoff Minx, from Georgia. Good Grief!

Big-ass icicle

We’ve got another photo from NJ. This one is from Branjor.

So, send in your photos if you have them. We could use some shots from CT, NY, and MA, (hint hint). Have fun in the snow everyone! It will melt quickly, because the temperatures are supposed to go up into the 40s in a lot of places by the end of the week.

Oh my, those cars are almost completely covered! Dang, a little 10 inches down here in the land of banjos and necks of red, and everything shuts down! Love those pictures, I hope that some more readers send their pictures of the snow, I just love seeing them. Thanks for sharing Joanelle and Delphyne…That top one Joanelle looks like a post card!

It’s time to shovel. I’m happy that except for the mountains, CA is snow free. I like snow, but not if I had to shovel.

The Boston Globe’s Big Picture has great photos. My favorite is the first photo.

    Christmas across the globe

Well, I tried, but iphone just wouldn’t cooperate. Beautiful pictures. Mine are about the same, so that’s New Jersey.

Pretty pictures…… We just have enough to be a hinderance here. It was actually already a pretty day out today….so that means the roads will be slick tonight.

Speaking of a cold chill. I just got one reading this: Meet Your New GOP Chairmen: Ralph Hall | FDL News Desk

“Like many Texas Republicans, Hall questions those conclusions. He’s also an unconditional champion of fossil fuels who won’t give up the holy grail of oil drilling – exploring in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. And BP’s gigantic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico didn’t dampen his enthusiasm for offshore drilling.

“As we saw that thing bubbling out, blossoming out – all that energy, every minute of every hour of every day of every week – that was tremendous to me,” he said. “That we could deliver that kind of energy out there – even on an explosion.”

I just added another photo from Fran in CA.

I had no one to take a picture of me as I cleared the driveway and sidewalk for the third time today. The winds were blowing at 40mph and slamming the snow against the back door making it impossible to open.

The sight of me, hoodie and all, at about 4pm on my last trip out there would have been priceless. Looking like someone who could easily use a “makeover” I threw the shovel against the wall and called it a day.

    The snow won!

US snow storm hits DC homeless (Dear God, these people stayed outside in the snow storm…that is beyond sad.)

Great pictures everyone! I’ll try to remember to bring the camera outside with us today. Doubt the dogs will cooperate, they shun paparazzi, but I’ll see what I can get the day after the storm.

Our electricity went off, as did our whole section of Connecticut, for several hours yesterday afternoon and night. My partner’s crackberry had internet but not our laptops. Luckily our 18th century farmhouse has some well-positioned fireplaces built to heat the house so we were cozy.

Health care “reform.” Yes we could have but no he didn’t.

The number of Americans without any health care coverage grew by more than four million in 2009. That left almost one-fifth of non-elderly people uninsured.

Nearly all Americans over 65 are insured by Medicare, the government-run health care plan, but those beneath that age are increasingly vulnerable to losing health care once provided by their employers or finding themselves unable to afford private coverage, according to the [Kaiser Foundation] report, “The Uninsured: A Primer.”

As those lacking health insurance grow in number, so do those missing out on necessary medical attention. About one-in-four uninsured adults have forgone care in the past year because of costs, compared to only 4 percent of those who have private coverage, according to the report.

  13. Wonderful photos everyone, thanks for sending them in.

Minx, wow! that icicle looks like a weapon.
