Keith Olberman Almost Admits He Was Wrong

Remember this speech from February, 2008? Tom Buffenbarger, president of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers was introducing Hillary Clinton at a rally in Ohio.

Guess who was on Countdown with Keith Olbermann tonight?

I wonder if Keith is beginning to regret trying so hard to get Hillary out of the race? I wonder if he remembers suggesting Hillary should be taken in a room by a superdelegate, “and only he comes out”?

Here’s the post by Dave Weigel: We Are All Tom Buffenbarger Now.

Back in 2008, Obama supporters thought Buffenbarger was a racist using right wing talking points against The Messiah. It seems he actually knew a thing or two about Barack “vote present” Obama and his tendency to fold like a cheap suit.

Kudos to Keith Olbermann for having the guts to put Buffenbarger on his show, and congratulations to Buffenbarger for handling the opportunity with class.

I notice on Twitter that the CDS is coming out. I’m still reading that Hillary would’ve not been any different.

    • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

      Who is saying that?

      • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

Jane Hamsher … she thinks Hillary pushed the Korea trade treaty and that it’s a bad deal. It’s still the NAFTA meme.

        • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

          janehamsher Jane Hamsher
Buffenbarger: Hillary wouldn’t support free trade deals / um no, Hillary driving force promoting KORUS.

          she also tweeted this:

If u had told me yr ago @daveweigel & @keitholbermann would b calling Tom Buffenbarger a prophet I’d have said put down the crack pipe.

          • bostonboomer's avatar bostonboomer says:

Of course Buffenbarger wasn’t a prophet at all. He was speaking from experience. His union was totally screwed by Obama at the Maytag plant in IL.

          • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

yeah, and he watched the airline workers get screwed too

Hey and Buffenbarger admitted to voting for Obama on the KO clip. Even after all that had happened.

            • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

It’s really hard to justify not voting Democrat even if it’s a bad one. I really didn’t want to vote for Kerry but Dubya was just beyond the pale for me. If I was staring down a Palin or a Huckabee even I wouldn’t think twice about voting for nearly any Dem. Either that or I’d be stepping up my hunt for a job in another country.

Which is really weird because Hillary slammed it back in 2007. I don’t think she likes it any better now. Not that she has anything to do with trade deals because the Treasury/Commerce handle that. Her biggest problem was, however, with the restrictions SK had on beef etc. and I believe those have all been lifted so it’s more equitable than it was.

My favorite part of the Buffenbarger interview is when he points out that working people didn’t get much out of the Bush tax cuts, so they aren’t going to notice anything if they go away. And besides, they see paying taxes as a patriotic duty, unlike many superrich people.

    • dakinikat's avatar dakinikat says:

well, also most of them haven’t seen pay raises in years so they’re not noticing much of anything in terms of increased taxes either

I imagine you saw Rachel Maddow this evening, conclude her interview with the Ugandan lawmaker who wants to execute gay people, or imprison them for life. Then she also interviewed Jeff Sharlet.

I think Sharlet is doing a service bringing this “Family”/Fellowship to light.

Something is going on with Keith Olbermann. This past week alone he has come out with both guns blasting when it comes to Obama and now seems to be looking to reconcile with Hillary supporters he casually dismissed two years ago.

Tonight he asked the Buffenbarger if he wanted to say to him (Keith) “I told you so” but Buffenbarger declined.

If I know KO, and I have watched him for several years, when he gets p.o.’d he does not let up. He went after Bush and company nightly, skewers Beck unmercifully, and totally loathes Palin. If Obama has now joined his list of “The Worst” he is in for a nightly drubbing with no end in sight.

Just cannot quite understand the Hillary lovefest as yet. But if it works I’ll take it.

I remain very skeptical. Unless he thinks it will up his ratings.

Bingo. KO can sense which way the wind is blowing. But, he is and shall remain a repugnant human being. Too little, too late. A Puma never forgets; and this one never forgives.

          • minkoffminx's avatar Minkoff Minx says:

I think the ratings may have something to do with it. One thing is sure, that Buffenbarger was right on when it came to Obama.

          • Valhalla's avatar Valhalla says:

Yeah, super-double-plus-pony-bingo! Olberman’s ratings were starting to drag long before the big suspension brouhaha. We know he doesn’t have a commitment to fundamental principles, or he would have managed a small burp or two of criticism of Obama any time in the past 3 years. I’m sure he’s started to figure out it’s follow his audience or die, basically.

Ralph Nader says he’s never seen a president so unwilling to admit that his party has a majority in the Congress. He says break the package up in pieces and force the Republicans to vote on things.

Obama’s going to take on the Tax Code next. I’m almost afraid to look at what he considers ‘simplifying’ the tax code.
