No one is banning trans children from sports. They are only insisting that biologically male children play sports with other biological males. When it comes to fair and safe competition for women and girls, material reality trumps men’s feelings.

Yes! Everyone saying trans kids are banned from sports seem to have borrowed Fox News techniques. It’s keeping girls’ sports for girls, and boys’ sports for boys. It’s keeping sports fair.

Also, there are no ‘trans kids.’ There are gender-questioning kids, but no one is born in the wrong body anymore than one is born in the wrong race/skin color. If it’s the culture that treats kids and adults differently than others because of their bodies or skin color, let’s change the culture, not the bodies.

One source for the evidence of unfairness of males in women’s sports. BTW, 10 nmol/L testosterone is the usual figure for trans-id’d men to lower to; some organizations say 5 nmol/L. This is still 10 X to 3 X more than the average for women.

Thus, with regard to transgender women athletes, we question whether current circulating testosterone level cut-off can be a meaningful decisive factor, when in fact not even suppression down to around 1 nmol/L removes the anthropometric and muscle mass/strength advantage in any significant way.

In terms of duration of testosterone suppression, it may be argued that although 12 months of treatment is not sufficient to remove the male advantage, perhaps extending the time frame of suppression would generate greater parity with female metrics. However, based on the studies reviewed here, evidence is lacking that this would diminish the male advantage to a tolerable degree. On the contrary, it appears that the net loss of lean mass and grip strength is not substantially decreased at year 2 or 3 of cross-hormone treatment (Table 4), nor evident in cohorts after an average 8 years after transition.
Rather, the data show that strength, lean body mass, muscle size and bone density are only trivially affected.

Purely in terms of military strategy, the worst thing about this war for the Russians long term is that it’s shown up just how pathetically out of date and badly maintained their military equipment is.

Now we know, not just estimate, that they’d be toast in days in any fight with NATO. They’ve probably known it for a while. You have to hand it to Putin: he’s good at bluffing.

      • NW Luna says:

Definitely. When this started I was expecting that the Russian military would roll into and over Ukraine without any effective resistance. Yes, they’ve done hideous damage to the Ukrainian lands and infrastructure, and have committed thousands of war crimes. But they’ve been shown up as having poor equipment, poor strategy, poor tactics, poor leadership, poor morale, and an oxymoronic military intelligence. NATO strategists at their defensive action simulators are busy downrating Russian capabilities.

That’s what happens with crony capitalism. All those oligarchs drain the life and money out of everything they can.
