Norman Lloyd made the most of 106 years. An exuberantly charming, resilient man who made a mark on every generation of his career as an actor, director, and producer. Unfailingly generous in sharing his fascinating memories of entertainment history. May he rest in peace. pic.twitter.com/QFdt6LQTiK

I knew this day would come but I'm awfully sad about it. Norman Lloyd was one of the first people I interviewed for the Mike Nichols book. I wanted to talk to him early, for obvious reasons. He had a story to tell, and he told it delightfully. > https://t.co/aeDU8iH84F

To get a glimpse of a what a storyteller Norman Lloyd was read this 2015 profile. Over his 106 years he worked or was friends w/ Bertolt Brecht, Orson Welles, Chaplin, Hitchcock, Renoir, Schoenberg, Salka Viertel, Mike Nichols. So much history died w/ him. https://t.co/KFgIz9RvXF

I can't say the death of a 106-year-old man is truly shocking, but I CAN say that Norman Lloyd will forever be my favorite interview of all time, Random Roles or otherwise. It was the first time I felt like I was truly contributing to history. R.I.P., sir.https://t.co/HblCK4zExd

Got to meet Norman Lloyd once about 20 years ago, when he was a mere pup of 86. Run your eye down the man's credits as an actor & director and salute the Real Deal. RIP.

It’s not every day you get photographed when you’re in #interstellar space. @NASA New Horizons is 50x as far from the Sun as Earth & photographed me from its place in the Kuiper Belt. How thick is the stuff filling interstellar space? For the last eight years, @NASAVoyager 1 has waited for lucky blasts from our Sun to tell. A newly-discovered signal in the data suggests that electrons may have been “whispering” the answer since 2017. https://t.co/5wMbobmMgU

Like the ocean, the space between stars is full of turbulent waves. As these waves reverberate through space, they vibrate electrons around them, which ring out at characteristic frequencies. 14.1 billion miles from Earth, Voyager 1 recorded their hum. https://t.co/d7ZD9DrdmV pic.twitter.com/WWktcGYj6L

Good morning…
Things will never change:
https://www.businessinsider.com/pac-political-donations-gop-republican-companies-restart-trump-election-biden-2021-5
“ Companies that temporarily stopped political donations after the January Capitol siege are being urged to restart contributions by a trade association that advises firms’ political action committees (PACs), according to a report by Popular Information’s Judd Legum.
The National Association of Business PACs (NABPAC) has encouraged its members to “move beyond” the siege by restarting donations, the publication reported, citing internal documents. The group’s membership includes more than 250 corporate PACs, and its board features representatives from Microsoft, Koch Industries, Kraft Heinz, and Cigna. ”
And…

“ All Republican lawmakers except for one left the House chamber as GOP Rep. Liz Cheney blasted former President Donald Trump and Republicans who refuse to condemn him.
In a speech to Congress on Tuesday, Cheney criticized those in her party who have not censured Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was stolen and his ongoing “crusade to undermine our democracy.”
CNN reporter Annie Grayer tweeted: “Ken Buck is the only lawmaker watching Liz Cheney speak on the House floor. The rest cleared out.”

This was a long and interesting read.
I never could get into Roth, from a literary standpoint…but I have read many of Arendt work. (Not that I remember it from back in college.) anyway…
Am I the only one who thinks turning Liz Cheney should not be considered a hero simply for truth telling?
It’s not her politics that are the point here. It’s that despite those politics, she has some grasp of reality. And it’s also how much it points up the cult behavior of Repubs.
Her reaction is what you’d expect from actual politicians. Instead, the rest of them proved they’re sunk in a cult.
She’ll be noted in the history books for making that clear, no matter her politics. Truth telling is heroic when it’s in the teeth of your whole peer group.
I admire her guts and honesty for speaking reality and sticking to it, even though I can’t admire her stands on most other issues.
Zomg. I just about rolled off my chair, laughing. I never would have thought of that way of getting them to act responsible. Bit late, of course. Still, it may slow down transmission among them and help us inch toward herd immunity.
Unreal!
Great post with all the info about Lloyd. (Keep it on the down low, but I’d never heard of him before. )
The article about the interstellar cosmic hum was wonderful!
Agree; that was fascinating. Also someone who never heard of Normal Lloyd that I recall as I’m not a film buff. I do like the classic B&W photography.
