Sunday Reads: Soylent Green in 2022

Good morning.

Did you all realize that Soylent Green is supposed to take place in 2022?

Please click on the link below to see the opening montage.

Soylent Green (1973) — (Movie Clip) Opening, The Year 2022

I never knew that this film was set in 2022. I always seem to come into it after the opening sequence…but watching it yesterday, I saw the movie from the very beginning. This is amazing. Check it out…NYC…no visual of the Twin Towers…folks are wearing masks.

As the movie  starts, they talk about 20 million people out of work, homeless people live in their cars and in the hallways, and riots…yeah, even riots in the streets for food!

Please if you have a chance, watch this movie again with a new perspective, it is as if the film is set in a Trumptopia 2022.

I’m telling you, if tRump is re-elected, strawberry jam is going to cost a fortune, women will become “furniture” and people will stand in line for green crackers. Remember, Soylent Green is people!

This is an open thread.

Good for them, it shows that even Trumpers are bothered by this ‘president’s behavior’ I have often thought of the movie (soylent green) during this administration’s destructive reign.

Soylent Green came out when I was in high school and was one of the movies to go see. I haven’t seen it in years. I remember it being one of Edward G Robinson’s last film appearances if not the last too. It was startling back then and it’s ironic it’s this year when there are so many hungry and homeless and more each day.

I’ve never watched it because I couldn’t bear the thought. It always felt too close to being true. Horrifying, how the only step left is the actual green crackers
