Wednesday Reads: Laura

Morning and all that.

Well, I have seen only one part of the RNC, and that was the roll call on Monday. The white male presence was strong. I think there were only three women represented during the entire “event” …and most of the men that did pledge their allegiance to tRump looked like a series of pedophiles for a sex offenders registry.

That was the extent of my viewing experience. I can not bear anymore. So, with that in mind:

What’s with her dress? And where are all the medals and the required military hat? Would you call this look dictator chic?

Brought up from below since we are talking about Day 2 of the Trumpian Sh!t Show.

Also, the Manson of Nazareth picture is the funniest thing I have seen all year.

I did not watched Melania’s speech, but the pictures I am seeing show her in this very severe militaristic looking olive drab soviet style uniform thing.

More than anything she looks like she is going trick or treating as Leonid Brezhnev.

I know that Twitler has a thing for Russian strong men but damn. Just damn.

      You knew this was next.

And how different was his treatment from Jacob Blake?

    • Enheduanna says:

Holeeee hell – I want to know what happens to this guy. I actually am starting to buy into the fact local law enforcement are inciting these riots. I’m way past thinking they are protection to even my white behind (I’m female and on the older side).

    • dakinikat says:

I wonder what horrid set of people hatched this hell realm being?

Cool merchandise for Biden-Harris. Kind of expensive though.

Will have to think about what I can afford.

That first picture, with the Dem and Repub roll calls side by side.

I’ve read the descriptions, I knew that’s how they did it, but what a punch from the actual visuals.

The only thing I keep not getting is that I hear the Repubs have 42% support, or 35%, or whatever. How do they even have 1% support? How?

    • Enheduanna says:

Agree totally – the contrast in those visuals says everything.

But yeah – how is it that so many people are so gullible and easily misled. Fox News, hate radio, Faceborg? Tribalism? Racism for sure. But so many of us. Our only hope is young people and POC.

      • quixote says:

Oh, I don’t know. Young people, definitely. But I understand there’s also a measurable chunk of seniors who got bent out of shape about being told to just go die of covid already and stop whining.

        • Enheduanna says:

I hope you are right quixote! His tweeting and tantrums have certainly turned off a lot of people.

Great wrap up of the news. I’ve been avoiding it on my non post days. Melania’s dress is creepy–definitely dictator chic. Her entrance was weird too.

    • RonStill4Hills says:

And she is a crabtree murderer. Don’t forget that.

    • quixote says:

My impression of Melania, from hundreds of light years away, is that she shares racism with the Dump. (She’s got to share *something*, right?) She’s a Central European, and culturally when it comes to racism they’re about where the US was in, maybe, the 1930s. It seems to be really hard in these twitter days for people to understand the mindset of others, but maybe if they considered their own misogyny it might be more obvious. How many weeks? months? did it take for the deaths of black *women* to even be mentioned after the country took to the streets about George Floyd? It’s that same bred-in-the-bone feeling that, somehow, that’s just not the same. It feels to me different from the Dump’s racism which has a lot more effort behind it. (Not that it makes any of it better or more excusable.)

The point I’m (slowly :/ ) making my way toward is that except for that shared racism, I get the feeling Melania is just doing whatever she has to do to keep her dibs on however many millions her pre-nup gets her. I feel sorry for her in a peculiar way. You sign up to be a golddigger. You clamp your jaw to put up with all the ugliness and flab and perversions, and surgeries to keep the charade going, you hang on like grim death for decades, and then when you’re that close, then you *also* suddenly have to suck up to the media and give RNC speeches? It’s like, “That’s not The Deal!” But protesting that she’s just a simple golddigger! wouldn’t get her much sympathy. So she’s stuck, which makes me feel weirdly sorry for her.

      • RonStill4Hills says:

I have always suspected that she was an operative placed in Twitlers path by Putin or the Russian mob. The First Honey Trap if you will.

She lost the benefit of the doubt with that “I don’t really care” coat on the way to see children in cages.

She is Discount Mussolini’s partner in crime.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think she is a dumb bimbo. I think she is intelligent. But Ilse Koch was intelligent.

        • quixote says:

          Yes. Exactly.

What I’m talking about isn’t exactly benefit of doubt. She knows what she’s doing and decided long ago not to care. It’s just strange watching that original decision take her into depths of hell I’d be surprised if she foresaw.

Who knows. Might have been the same with Ilse Koch. Playing the patriarchy game on nightmare mode has got to be an awful choice.

        • dakinikat says:

I had some one else tell me she was acting like a swallow and that really makes sense.

I hope everybody stays safe with the hurricane, really frightening. On the other hand, here in Mass it was a gorgeous day.
