♻️ "Vanessa's mom said if you return her daughter with out life, she will shutdown Fort Hood. Get ready for War!!!! Updates on Vanessa Guillen’s Case per the press conference today: 1. Mom said she was taken by someone in a white truck. (not sure if that was given to her by CID or not) 2. Someone from her chain of command walked into the shower when Vanessa was in there-nude. 3. Someone in the chain of command falsified an accountability check saying Vanessa was there when he in fact did not see her there. 4. There is still no definitive timeline for the day she went missing. 5. Vanessa was not supposed to be working that day, she was called in. 6. CID did not investigate the sexual harassment allegation, because it is not criminal. An investigation was launched, but not by CID. 7. The mother promises to move the sky, earth, and the seas if her daughter is not given back to her alive. The mother gave the Army her daughter alive, and she wants her back alive. She says God is with her, God is working through her, and that is why the truth is coming out! 8. Fort Hood finally acknowledged what we already knew – they suspect foul play. VANESSA GUILLEN, WE ARE COMING FOR YOU! FORT HOOD, WE ARE DEMANDING ACCOUNTABILITY! . . . #VanessaGuillen #LaGenteUnida #PaisanosUnidos #FortHood

It looks like Spain has been hit by yet another bungling restorer. ⠀ ⠀ Immediately drawing comparisons to the viral "Beast Jesus" fail of 2012, not one, but two attempts at restoration of a copy of a painting by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo have turned the beatific Virgin Mary into a misshapen lump with red lips. This latest misstep by an amateur restorer is prompting experts in Spain to call for more stringent regulations. Click the link in our bio for the full story.⠀ ⠀ Shown here: On the left, the original Virgin Mary from a copy of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo’s work, and two restoration attempts on the right. From the Sahara to the Caribbean in five days, the so-called “Godzilla dust cloud” is darkening the skies over places like Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The event is caused by the Saharan Air Layer, where strong winds travel across the Atlantic between late spring and early fall. These images come from @nasa’s MODIS Terra satellite, which you can access for free along with other imagery services in the ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World. Link in bio.

This is an open thread. I can’t find any words.

It is just too fucking disturbing for words.

    • Enheduanna says:

Hang in there JJ. Hope most of your move chores are behind you.

I’ve been soothing myself watching art restoration clips on YouTube. Baumgartner has some really good ones. That any museum would turn that over to an amateur is beyond me. Especially after that first one – which was sort of funny. But this Murillo? No no no no no NOOOO!

      • quixote says:

Seriously. No. *I* could do a better job. The idiot who did that must have been trying to make it “relevant” or some shit.

I’ve been AWOL today doing my homework for my home gardening class in the pouring rain. Trying hard to be an urban farmer with a sustainable food producing landscape in these times. Pulling strength from my fraternal Nana and all us Okies.

    • bostonboomer says:

I’ve been AWOL with my nose buried in a book.

    • quixote says:

(Tangential, but my brain keeps hiccuping on ‘fraternal Nana.’ Taken literally, that would have to be a half-brother to be a different Nana from your own. Or do you mean it some other way? These are the sorts of things that keep me up at night 😆 )
