Sunday Reads: Living in Oppressioni

Yesterday, I spent the day doing what I love…being surrounded by derby people. I was a Non-Skating Official at the Atlanta Roller Derby, and it was a liberating day hanging with people who are like minded…as far as being liberal, pro-civil rights and also…fuck tRump.

One of the officials I was working with told me how recently he and his wife took a trip to Montreal. He asked me if I had ever taken a plane out of an oppressed country…telling me that in high school he went to Russia as a student. Further explaining the relief he felt when the plane landed in Sweden or Norway ( I can’t remember the exact country, but you get the picture. ) He said he felt the same emotional reaction once his plane landed in Montreal. That sense that he could breathe freely again, after leaving an oppressive country.

This is just an example from the perspective of one person of color…living in one of the largest cities in the country.

The nightmare is real.

It is madness.

This is an open thread.

i saw this last week … seems to be an appropriate place to put this ….

The bills the state Legislature is considering take aim at sanctuary policies seeking to protect undocumented immigrants. Sanctuary cities, such as New York and San Francisco, institute policies to limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement agencies, such as ICE.

Florida’s Senate Bill 168 and House Bill 527 seek to prohibit local and state governmental entities from implementing sanctuary policies and force cooperation with federal immigration authorities. The legislation would mandate that agencies send requested information to federal authorities.

A news release from the ACLU of Florida warned that these bills would result in an “irreparable human cost” and “expose counties and other government entities to potential legal and financial liabilities by forcing local authorities to comply with ICE’s flawed detainer system.”

Just to keep you up to date, you still have ads on your blog. This morning it’s something called “Wordads”. However, the new event is in the morning email notification; It arrived with the correct heading of “Oppression” and sender. However, when I opened it was from “Dancing Sky” via no-comment WordPress. It was nothing but a big fat ad. Since I see you have posted, I’m wondering if somehow you are hijacked. Or, could it be, that since I haven’t updated my blog site, I am.

Changing a diaper while holding/wearing a gun? WTF?!

      • bostonboomer says:

Read the story. It sounds like the gun was not in their possession. Someone else fired a gun. Why would anyone need a gun in a restaurant catering to children? I’m so glad my state has strict gun laws!

My sister just called to tell me about this. We’ve visited many times. Just gut-wrenching to see the history there destroyed.
