Secret Service intercepts 2 ‘suspicious packages’ addressed to Obama, Clinton – CNNPolitics

The United States Secret Service intercepted two “suspicious packages” addressed to former President Barack Obama and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton earlier this week, the agency said Wednesday.

Neither Obama nor Clinton received the packages or were at risk of receiving them, the Secret Service said. They were discovered during “routine mail screening procedures as potential explosive devices and were appropriately handled as such,” the agency said in a statement.
The package intended for Obama was intercepted in Washington, DC, on Wednesday morning, and the one intended for Clinton was addressed to her in Westchester County, New York, on Tuesday.

Great cache of comics, JJ – thanks

I remember back when we’d say “My favorite is the …” And now the comics are so bitterly sharp and about atrocities that our country (or the president*) is doing that I don’t want to say any one is my favorite — what’s a favorite way to get hit in the gut?

They’ve gotten almost as depressing as the news, but they do illuminate the stark reality we are living in now.

    • Enheduanna says:

The toons are certainly gruesome this week.I remember being infuriated when the first atrocities from W’s invasion of Iraq started happening – beheadings and such. It made me seethe with rage to know he started that conflict and we had to live through those consequences.

      The more things change….right?

So police knew her harasser had broken parole and knew where he lived but did nothing until after he’d murdered a woman who told him “No”.

Slain University of Utah athlete had told school of ex-boyfriend’s harassment

Lauren McCluskey, the University of Utah track and field athlete who was found shot to death Monday night in a car outside a campus residence hall, had broken off her relationship with the prime suspect when she discovered that he was a registered sex offender.

Melvin Rowland, 37, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a church near downtown Salt Lake City and McCluskey’s mother told university police that he had been harassing her 21-year-old daughter since their Oct. 9 breakup.

University police chief Dale Brophy said in a Tuesday news conference that officers could not find Rowland in the days leading up to the shooting and added that Rowland had walked away from a halfway house for parolees. However, a Department of Corrections official told the Salt Lake Tribune that officials knew where he was living. [emphasis added] The official added that university police had not passed along information that McCluskey had accused Rowland, who had repeatedly been returned to prison for parole violations, of harassing her.

It looks like it was down on the Cape and RI. I didn’t get any tornado warnings, but we had a lot of rain last night.

“Nationalism is not to be confused with patriotism…By ‘patriotism’ I mean devotion to a particular place and a particular way of life, which one believes to be the best in the world but has no wish to force on other people. Patriotism is of its nature defensive, both militarily and culturally. Nationalism, on the other hand, is inseparable from the desire for power. The abiding purpose of every nationalist is to secure more power and more prestige, not for himself but for the nation or other unit in which he has chosen to sink his own individuality.”

Actually many people could imagine this, but not at the NYT.

I just still cannot get over that his staff and officials are so worried about him divulging info but don’t do a damn thing about it. It’s surreal.

Man accused of groping woman on airplane argues that Trump says it’s okay

The man “stated that the President of the United States says it’s OK to grab women by their private parts,” according to the FBI.

  11. RonStill4Hills says:

I admit it. Hills was wrong. The are not “deplorable” they are “bat-shit crazy wingnut fucktard fascists.”

And as far as Trump’s phone is concerned, every legitimate news outlet who wrote even a single word about Hillary’s e-mails should have to get down on their knees and beg for forgiveness from Hills and the American people for hypocritically and disingenuously pretending like she compromised National security.
