Wednesday Reads: Lies Lies Lies

About that ridiculous shit show from tRump yesterday:

‘Did the dog eat his homework too?’ CNN’s Erin Burnett slams Trump – Business Insider

In a scathing opening monologue on Tuesday, CNN anchor Erin Burnett slammed President Donald Trump’s explanation that he misspoke during a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Damage control, the president claims he misspoke once in his disastrous summit with Putin,” Burnett said on CNN. “Did the dog eat his homework too?”

During his press conference with Putin in Helsinki, Finland, Trump initially said he did not “see any reason why” Russia would be responsible for meddling in the 2016 US Presidential election. When asked if he would condemn Russia for its election interference, Trump refused to back the US intelligence community’s assessment, and instead, railed against the FBI and his political opponents.

“My people came to me … They said they think it’s Russia,” Trump said at the summit on Monday. “I have President Putin. He just said it’s not Russia.”

“I will say this,” Trump added. “I don’t see any reason why it would be.”

After a wave of critics from both parties criticized his remarks, Trump backtracked his comments and said in a tweet that he had “GREAT confidence” in the US intelligence community.

“How stupid does Trump think we Americans are?,” Burnett said in her monologue. “The president’s excuse for his embarrassing press conference where he sided with Vladimir Putin over his own intelligence chiefs does not add up.”

Trump’s handwritten notes spotted on Russia statement – YouTube

Trump Adds Notes in Margins of Written Statement on Russian Meddling: ‘THERE WAS NO COLUSION’ | Mediaite

President Donald Trump couldn’t help but add one of his favorite phrases to staff-prepared remarks today.

When trying to convince the world that he actually meant to say he saw no reason it “wouldn’t” be Russia who interfered in the 2016 elections rather than “would,” the notes written in the margins of his prepared remarks – in all caps and in big, black Sharpie – read “THERE WAS NO COLUSION.”

Now, given how many times the president has seen and spat the word “collusion,” you’d think he’d know how to spell it at this point. Even more than the flimsy-at-best explanation of his remarks, perhaps this ought to alarm us, as it indicates beyond a doubt that no matter how familiar Trump appears to be with something, he refuses to absorb correct information about it.

One more thing about the statement tRump made yesterday:

Gloria Borger: Trump looked like he was in a hostage tape – YouTube

She is not the only one to bring up that point, that tRump looked like a hostage reading off a prepared document…I thought the same thing when I saw the tape.

And just a couple more tweets:

Yeah, curlygramma is right…Maddow’s show was awesome last night.

So simple and very true, why not hold hearings on all those questions that we ask daily here on the blog?

Then there was this horror news breaking on The Last Word:

Read the alert at the bottom of the screen on the picture in this tweet:

Fucking hell…let me say that again…fucking hell!

We are drowning in lies and hypocrisy. Day after day we are at the mercy of this man and his enablers. There are days when it is just too much to absorb.

He insists that the football players “kneel” for the National Anthem while he praises the enemy who interfered with our election because of “patriotism”. Can you believe this?

We have an imbecile in the White House. A dangerous ignoramus eager to sell out this nation for whatever reason. And the GOP does nothing!

God knows what went on behind closed doors for 2 hours but somehow this man must be stopped.

Pat, there is talk about using legal ways to get the interpreter to testify about what was said at the meeting between Putin and tRump.

Damn. I was so pissed off about Kushner and that shit about the secret service…that I forgot to write an intro.

it happens … the other trump tool of a Louisiana Senator thinks most of us are dumb ass crackers … maybe in Monroe … but, sheesh …

Kennedy’s reaction came hours after Trump sought to quell mounting criticism from even some of his most ardent supporters.

“I accept our intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election took place,” Trump said Tuesday at the White House before a meeting with Republican members of Congress. “Could be other people also. A lot of people out there.” Trump said, reading mostly off a sheet of paper, before a meeting with Republican members of Congress at the White House.

“Based on what the president said today, he had a very firm private meeting with (Russian President Vladimir) Putin,” Kennedy told WWL-TV. “After listening to his press conference — and I listened to it twice — he got a little tangled up with his words.”

It remains unknown, however, exactly what the men spoke about during the two-hour-long closed-door meeting since no one else was present.

“I’m glad the president clarified things, and I think it’s important he clarified them,” Kennedy said. “I was somewhat confused about what he said.”

I set the phone banks to stun … folks are calling him right now to say BS and we have an action planned tomorrow in front of Scalise’s office in Metarie. No way for me to get out there but it’s better off if it’s his constituents.

      • Jane says:

I think it was interesting that the private meeting was supposed to be 40 minutes, then it went to 2 hours! that is a long time to be private away from advisors!

‘Trump’s son should be concerned’: FBI obtained wiretaps of Putin ally who met with Trump Jr.
    Michael Isikoff

The FBI has obtained secret wiretaps collected by Spanish police of conversations involving Alexander Torshin, a deputy governor of Russia’s Central Bank who has forged close ties with U.S. lawmakers and the National Rifle Association, that led to a meeting with Donald Trump Jr. during the gun lobby’s annual convention in Louisville, Ky., in May 2016, a top Spanish prosecutor said Friday.

José Grinda, who has spearheaded investigations into Spanish organized crime, said that bureau officials in recent months requested and were provided transcripts of wiretapped conversations between Torshin and Alexander Romanov, a convicted Russian money launderer. On the wiretaps, Romanov refers to Torshin as “El Padrino,” the godfather.

“Just a few months ago, the wiretaps of these telephone conversations were given to the FBI,” Grinda said in response to a question from Yahoo News during a talk he gave at the Hudson Institute, a conservative think tank in Washington. Asked if he was concerned about Torshin’s meetings with Donald Trump Jr. and other American political figures, Grinda replied: “Mr. Trump’s son should be concerned.”

Here we go with tales of old white Republican pervs …

Prosecutors: Butina is flight risk, should stay in jail until trial

“You have upstaged Anna Chapman,” who is often called a Russia, honey trap and whom the US deported in a prisoner swap in 2010, he said. Torshin applauded Butina’s image following media coverage of her ties to politicians in the US last year.
According to prosecutors, Butina appeared to be operating in the same mold as Chapman. People who knew her described her as smart, aggressive and attractive, qualities that helped her expand her network of American contacts. She even posed in stilettos and leather while brandishing guns for a Russian GQ Magazine spread.
Butina treated the relationship with the 56-year-old American as “simply a necessary aspect of her activities,” prosecutors said. She secretly complained about the living situation, prosecutors said, and at one point offered sex “in exchange for a position within a special interest organization.”

  5. Pat Johnson says:

    Jaysus Christ on a cracker!

Trump was just asked if the Russians were still tampering with our system and his answer was “no”.

What the hell is it going to take to rid us of this traitor? He continues to deny our intelligence agencies, tries to destroy NATO, starts unnecessary trade wars, pulls us from the Paris Accord, gets played by North Korea, lies, lies, lies and nothing is done.

What is wrong with these people?

  6. dakinikat says:

National security experts warn Trump is behaving more and more like a ‘controlled spy’

Robert Deitz, a former top lawyer at the CIA and the National Security Agency, said he was “beyond shocked” to hear Trump’s comments.

“We’re all sort of used to Trump by now, and you say to yourself that we’ve gone as low as we can, and then you see what he said, and it’s so much worse than you’d think,” Deitz said. “Doing this in front of a foreign leader — and that too is someone who’s an adversary and not an ally — is unimaginable.”

William Pomeranz, the deputy director of the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies at the Woodrow Wilson Center, echoed that view.

“Trump essentially disowned the results of his own intelligence services and believed Vladimir Putin,” Pomeranz said. “It’s one thing for him to say that in a room by himself. It’s another situation when he has Putin right next to him and in theory can challenge him and voice the US’s absolute rejection of what happened during the election, and yet he couldn’t bring himself to do that.”

    • NW Luna says:

D’oh! Of course he’s a controlled Russian spy. What I don’t understand is why nothing can be done to contain him.

  7. joanelle says:

“The Russians need to know that there are a lot of us who fully understand what happened in 2016, and it really better not happen again in 2018.” – Mitch McConnell
This is the leader of our Senate, muckity muck in the Repug party and he ‘understands what happened in 2016’ but has not helped clear it up? Has not done anything about the fool playing in the Oval Office? The whole lot of them should be thrown out of office.
And what the heck is wrong with the Democrats? Why are they sitting on their hands? I just get more dang emails from Kirsten sooooo eager to run.
I am so angry at both parties for allowing this travesty. He kept telling us that the election was rigged but we all seemed to think he was pointing to Hillz as the ‘rigger’ when in fact it was him and his ‘gang’
