Wednesday Evening Reads: Cartoons…No Joke

Every time I tried to write today’s post, something kept me from starting it…whether it was lack of internet service…having to cook dinner, or just to take a nap. So as you can see, I’ve added an “evening” to the title. That should make everything OK…

So much shit going on…it is frightening.

  2. quixote says:

Minx, dare I ask? Are you back in your house yet? Keeping my fingers crossed for you. It’d be nice not to be eating Thanksgiving dinner on paper plates on a motel bed!

    Great cartoons, JJ!

That graphic with the “Not killing me but making me stronger” is spot on. This whole year’s been like that.

Salt Lake City jogger stabs man who groped her during morning run.

“She gave chase for a little bit, and then decided to go back home and make the report to police,” [spokesman] Wilking said.

The woman described the attacker as white, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 150 pounds. He is “physically fit” and was wearing a grey sweatshirt and a backpack. He is likely between 15 and 30 years old and may have puncture wounds on his arms, legs or chest.

Hillary Clinton responded on Wednesday to news that the Trump administration is considering appointing a special counsel to investigate her alleged ties to the Uranium One deal, calling the move “a disastrous step into politicizing the Justice Department” and “such an abuse of power.”

In an exclusive interview with Mother Jones, Clinton said such an investigation would have devastating consequences for the justice system in America. “If they send a signal that we’re going to be like some dictatorship, like some authoritarian regime, where political opponents are going to be unfairly, fraudulently investigated, that rips at the fabric of the contract we have, that we can trust our justice system,” Clinton said. “It will be incredibly demoralizing to people who have served at the Justice Department, under both Republicans and Democrats, because they know better. But it will also send a terrible signal to our country and the world that somehow we are giving up on the kind of values that we used to live by and we used to promote worldwide.”

I see that Senator Franklin is now in hot water. To be fair, many times what is funny is only funny precisely because it is wrong and inappropriate.

I hope he gets this squared away he is my preferred candidate for 2020.

    • RonStill4Hills says:

In other words nobody is trying to pretend that the bad behavior is good or appropriate…

I haven’t heard what Al has to say. No blank checks, but I tend to admire him. I hope I am not massively let down. Again.

Honestly I have had such a positive view of Poppy Bush that I am stunned that he is a serial Grabasstic Bastard.

      • catscatscats says:

Ron, Franken apologized for his behavior and for the “joke” that wasn’t funny in a written statement. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. At least he acknowledged what he did was wrong and I hope there are no repeats of such behaviors going forward, especially if he has higher political aspirations. I doubt that Roy Moore will ever apologize for anything that he has ever done, does or will do. He’s a pretty poor excuse for a human being. He’s got white male privilege right down to his DNA.

    • Sweet Sue says:

Not going to happen now, Ron. McConnell has already called for a Senate Ethics investigation. The Republicans smell blood in the water and the long knives are out.
Nothing in the accusation rises-drops-to the level of heinous but intrusive and wildly, wildly inappropriate.
What the hell is wrong with men? Not you Ron.

      • RonStill4Hills says:

I won’t say testosterone poisoning, perhaps and estrogen deficiency.

        • Enheduanna says:

          LOL

Social conditioning (of which women are a part) is what’s wrong with men. Nothing that can’t be fixed hopefully someday.

          • Sweet Sue says:

I wish I believed that it was all nurture and not nature but I don’t.
Maybe if I had a beloved son or grandson but I don’t.
My husband is wonderful man but I’ve been rounding his edges for over thirty years.

      • Enheduanna says:

If McConnell opens an investigation for Franken then they will have to eject Moore if he’s elected. They know Franken is popular and he’s been screwing them to the wall in these Senate hearings. Jackie Speier has indicated there are two harassers in Congress – one Dem and one GOP – who need disciplining. Who are they and why aren’t they under investigation?

In Franken’s case – we have one accuser who may or may not have political motivations. So far no pattern of behavior. What he did wasn’t great but sort of “meh” comparatively speaking. I can see him joking about wanting to kiss someone “for practice”. Was it as bad as she makes it out to be? tRump forcibly kissed Katy Tur and he’s king of the world.

If Moore and tRump won’t apologize – for what is undoubtedly far, far worse – and Franken HAS apologized, then unless a chorus of accusers pops up I’d give him the benefit of the doubt too.

        • RonStill4Hills says:

If the complaint is coming from the victim, even if you allow “butt of the joke” she has a right to be as mad as she wants to be. Societies reaction. However is under no obligation to overreact. In he picture I saw., she appeared to be wearing a flack jacket or something, that is literally kind of like armor almost right? How severe could the injury be?

He was not a Senator then right? He was a comedian going for a cheap laugh. Not fair to judge him as a politician “then.”

Man I wish she had woke up and kicked his ass.

It would have been Justice, he would have been chastened, and we wouldn’t be compare this with the Percy DA in bed with minors.

  8. Catscatscats says:

Franken is calling for an ethics investigation of himself. If the senate investigates Franken, then 45 should be the subject of an ethics investigation for an endless list of offenses.

  9. RonStill4Hills says:

Fuck all!!!! Poppy Bush was doing it in 1992.

    It is Assageddon. The Asspocolypse.

So be it. We have brought it on ourselves. Men I mean.

This is about so much more than Bill Clinton. But the big dog is part of it.

What evil lurks in the hearts of men…well the shadow may know but the media is finding out.

Any of us who think ourselves good, that lean on others for noncensual sexual gratification are somewhere on the molester priest spectrum. Regardless of what WE think of ourselves.

The truth above all,and the rest be damned. What does Jim Garrision say in JFK “Though the heavens fall…” well ok. But leave none standing. The hypocrite Repugs have to give up Trumpkin the Jack-Ass-O-Lantern.
