    One of the Austin police officers who stopped Charles Whitman’s sniping from the UT Tower back in 1966 has died. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram couldn’t bring themselves to honor his request for his obit I suppose.

    Houston McCoy helped stop deadly UT sniper attack in 1966

    In an interview with the Austin American-Statesman in 2011, Mr. McCoy insisted he didn’t want Whitman mentioned in his obituary. He wondered whether he could have saved more lives if he had reached the observation deck sooner.

      I guess it is a significant part of his life. Other newspapers would certainly mention it.
