Monday Storm is Brewing, Spinning, Packing…well you get the idea.

Good Evening!

I have a confession to make…I have not once turned on my TV or looked at the news today, even online. I blame it on my sinus infection, and a combination of cold medicine, antibiotics and utter disgust at the crapfest going on in my home town of Tampa. (BTW, that utter disgust has to deal with the latest shit spewing from the GOP: Tom Smith, GOP Senate Candidate: Pregnancy From Rape Similar To ‘Having A Baby Out Of Wedlock’ If you haven’t seen that link, be sure to check it out!)

Tropical Storm Isaac: Gulf Coast Braces For Possibility Of Storm Strengthening Into Hurricane

NEW ORLEANS — With its massive size and ponderous movement, a strengthening Isaac could become a punishing rain machine depending on its power, speed and where it comes ashore along the Gulf Coast.

The focus has been on New Orleans as Isaac takes dead aim at the city seven years after Hurricane Katrina, but the impact will be felt well beyond the city limits. The storm’s winds could be felt more than 200 miles from its center.

As the Caribbean assessed the damage from Tropical Storm Isaac’s deadly hit, the U.S. Gulf Coast braced for a possible hurricane. The storm has already affected plans for the Republican National Convention, oil companies have cut production and governors have issued states of emergency in anticipation of Tropical Storm Isaac.

The National Weather Service is continuing to monitor the storm — their analysis of Tropical Storm Isaac can be viewed by clicking here. They recommend preparing for storms by having a disaster supply kit ready, establishing a family plan, and staying informed as the weather develops.

  1. From the link about Tom Smith:

Trying to distance himself from the “legitimate rape” comment that Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) made last week, Pennsylvania Senate candidate Tom Smith (R) stirred up further controversy by comparing a pregnancy caused by rape to “having a baby out of wedlock.”

Smith said Monday at the Pennsylvania Press Club that although he condemns Akin’s comment, he agrees with Akin that abortion should be banned without any exceptions, including for rape and incest victims. Pressed by a reporter on how he would handle a daughter or granddaughter becoming pregnant as a result of rape, Smith said he had already “lived something similar to that” in his family.

“She chose life, and I commend her for that,” he said. “She knew my views. But, fortunately for me, I didn’t have to … she chose the way I thought. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t rape.”

When a reporter asked Smith to clarify what kind of situation was similar to becoming pregnant from rape, the candidate responded, “Having a baby out of wedlock.”

He added, “Put yourself in a father’s position. Yes, it is similar.”

Hope you feel better soon, JJ. Thanks for posting this even when you’re feeling bad.

A man dressed in a military-style “ghillie” suit and apparently trying to provoke reports of a Bigfoot sighting in northwest Montana was struck by two cars and killed, authorities said.
The man was standing in the right-hand lane of U.S. Highway 93 south of Kalispell on Sunday night when he was hit by the first car, according to the Montana Highway Patrol. A second car hit the man as he lay in the roadway, authorities said.

Flathead County officials identified the man as Randy Lee Tenley, 44, of Kalispell. Trooper Jim Schneider said motives were ascertained during interviews with friends, and alcohol may have been a factor but investigators were awaiting tests.

I know I shouldn’t laugh when someone actually died, but this guy was old enough to know better.

She is so tiny! Oh wow — it doesn’t surprise me. I suspected that she had a major reason to leave home and go elsewhere for training. Now we know.

Good for her to speak out — that’s the only way to stop the racists. Also showing the racists that she is superior.

    • janicen says:

It doesn’t surprise me, but it makes me sad that she had to go through that. I’m so happy that she won the individual gold. Go to hell, bullies. You got to call her names and make her feel bad, and she got to win gold in London and is standing there with Oprah. She wins.

      • bostonboomer says:

I was shocked. I guess I shouldn’t have been. She is adorable. I can’t understand how anyone could be mean to her.

    • HT says:

good grief, the comments there are horrific. No wonder that poor child had to move to train, if those commenters are any indication of what she had to endure. I was appalled when she won and some people were complaining about her hair, but those comments indicate that racism is indeed alive and appear to be self perpetuating racism.

      • bostonboomer says:

The hair complaints came from African American women, unfortunately. Hair has always been a big issue in the black community. I loved it when naturals were in style back in the ’60s.

I’m not voting for either of the legacy parties. Ryan — the granny starver isn’t much different from 0bama who hated his own mother and called his grandmother a racist.

In 0bowma’s latest effort to be “bipartisan” he gave an interview and says that he is going to cut medicare etc. just like Romney/Ryan are planning to “cut the waste”.

Out of the mouth of the Prez : And what we’re going to be offering—and have been offering—is a path forward that says balanced deficit-reduction, smart cuts in government programs that we can no longer afford, making sure that we’re eliminating waste and fraud in programs like Medicare. . . .

But what I’m offering the American people is a balanced approach that the majority agrees with, including a lot of Republicans. And for me to be able to say to the Republicans, the election is over; you no longer need to be focused on trying to beat me; what you need to be focused on and what you should have been focused on from the start is how do we advance the American economy—I’m prepared to make a whole range of compromises, some of which I get criticized from the Democratic Party on, in order to make progress. But we’re going to need compromise on your side as well. And the days of viewing compromise as a dirty word need to be over because the American people are tired of it.

This link goes to a firedoglake dot com article with the full interview with 0bama.

    /obama-is-so-confident-of-his-base-that-he-reminds-us-again-over-the-weekend-that-he-will-cut-social-security-medicare-and-medcaid/

Four years ago 0bama made the same sort of statement and he still does not get it — the Republicans don’t care if he adopts every single one of their demands — nothing is going to change their mind.

The GOP will not play nice. They won’t stop until the US is a full Christian Taliban Theocracy and even then that won’t be enough — then they start executing everyone who is on their “list”. That means Gays, Feminists, Liberals etc etc — and even then that won’t be enough for the extreme rightwing nutjob Republicans.

    • northwestrain says:

This is the storm that is coming. The threat to eliminate the “evil” using a list created by the rightwing leadership was quoted to me by a cult member in the 1980s. I told him that I was on that list several times — he said — then you need to repent and submit yourself to Jesus for Judgment. (That was a strange event in my life — and why I know these freaks are not going to give up.)

    • RalphB says:

The FDL guy was right, you have to read between the lines to find all that crap. I’m sure they will entertain themselves for hours commenting on how there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between the parties. Sooner or later their wittle hurt fee-fees are going to get in the way of patting themselves on the back for purity.

      • northwestrain says:

0bama is already on record telling us all that he wanted to cut medicare — the Insurance company welfare is what he has in mind to “fix” medicare.

He has already tried to make a compromise with the Republicans — which the real dems realized was exactly what the GOP wanted.

He has already said that he wants to “compromise” with the Republicans — even knowing that no compromise is possible. UNLESS 0bama intends to return to his true roots — which is a Raygun Democrat.

NONE of us know what 0bowma intends in the next four years. He has made promises — but not to the base. He doesn’t much care what the base thinks. Just like he didn’t much care what the Maytag workers though when he helped their jobs go south.

I do not trust the penises of either legacy party to tell the truth and to keep any promises made to the base. These guys are faithful to the 1 %.

Thankfully I live in a state where I can vote Green.

I do not trust the legacy parties.

And when 0bowma is re-elected and immediately begins to dismantle Medicare and Social Security — I’ll will be saying I TOLD YOU SO.

      • bostonboomer says:

I’d rather deal with Obama than Romney. There’s just no way anyone can rationally argue that there’s no difference. If nothing else, their choice for SCOTUS will be vastly different. No one has to vote for either candidate, but saying there’s no difference is silly. We all agree that both parties have sold out to Wall St. and Corporations, but if Romney wins, the battle will be lost completely.

        IMNSHO.

      • bostonboomer says:

In addition, second term presidents invariably start worrying about their legacies. Obama won’t want to go down in history as the president who reversed the New Deal.

      • northwestrain says:

We will have to agree to disagree — 0bama is already on record promising to do “something” about SS and Medicare. I am worried about the millions of Boomers who will be retiring soon and for many the only retirement money they will have with be SS. Their pensions have been looted and many have no idea that this happened. We are already seeing retirees who have lost their pension — so the first wave of retirees completely dependent on SS and Medicare are already here.

To see what 0bama was willing to do one year ago.

      • bostonboomer says:

I’m well aware that Obama wanted to privatize social security and medicare. I learned that when I read his book back in 2007, and it’s one of the main reasons I didn’t vote for him in 2008. I’m aware of what he offered during the debt ceiling fight too. I still think there is a difference between Obama and Romney, and I think the fight over social security and medicare will be easier with Obama.

But I’m fine with disagreement, and I would never tell someone else how to vote.

      • northwestrain says:

I agree — the least of the worst is 0bama.

I would never ever vote for Romney – because Romney will certainly do what 0bama tried to give away a year ago — that is begin the end of SS and Medicare.

But we must keep on nagging at our congress critters and nagging at 0bama and watch him like a hawk. He is untrustworthy. He still wants to be loved by the GOP and that will never ever happen.
