Friday Late Night: Bits of Brits

Good Late Evening!

It has been one of those freakish days, when you spend most of your time confused and exhausted and overheated. I have not been able to even look at the news, and just thinking about writing tonight’s post made me hesitant to search for links.  So instead of bringing you cartoons, for tonight’s late night open thread, I thought I would post a few videos from a TV series that pulls at my history major’s heartstrings. Blackadder. What a treat! You may recognize a few famous actors in these clips. Miranda Richardson, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie…and of course Rowan Atkinson.

Below you will find a documentary on the series, it is broken down into five parts…and then I have posted some of the clips that highlight this shows comedic qualities.

For the rest of this documentary about Black Adder click the links below.

Blackadder Rides Again Part 4 – YouTube

Blackadder Rides Again Part 5 – YouTube

And just a few more videos clips from the series….

That is just a bit of this fabulously written and acted TV series…when you see something like this, it makes all those reality shows even more disgusting and stupid…utterly idiotic, and not very “smart” at all!

This is an open thread.

I’ve never watched it. I’ll give it a try. Thanks, JJ. I hope tomorrow is better for you. We’re getting up to 94 tomorrow.

    • I hope so too, we have not had any rain since June 18th, everything is dry and the leaves are all drooping. I still haven’t looked at any of the news links from your post today, it is like the heat has drained all my energy and now I am just running flat.

Thanks for the videos, JJ. Try to take it easy.

This heat is exhausting. Makes it hard to concentrate on anything. It’s supposed to be 106 degrees here tomorrow with a heat index of at least 114.

That series ran on the Seattle public TV station — fantastic actors and scripts. No wonder I can’t stand much of the “comedy” on US TV.

The Brits have perhaps a different sense of humor. Waiting for God is another series — then there’s Doc Martin. Again more high brow and smart humor.

Awk! Just looked at the weather forecast. High 70s tomorrow; low 80s Sun & Mon here in Seattle. Considering we’ve been in the mid to upper 60s, I am not prepared for it. At least it still gets in the 50s at night so I can sleep.

Sorry to those of you in the rest of the country. We pay for the temperate summers by our “light rain and 50 degrees” the other 9-10 months of the year. And physiologically it takes about 3+ months to acclimatize to warmer temperatures, so we never get the chance to adjust. Hope things cool off soon for everyone.

And thanks for posting those videos! I’d forgotten about the Black Adder.

Our new climate. And this is just the beginning. Meanwhile, other jet stream anomalies are flooding Britain, Europe, and south Russia, where over a hundred people died.

The awful thing is that once climate change gets bad enough to start noticing, it’s too late. Like driving a supertanker: when the front end has hit the reef, trying to change the direction of the back end won’t do much.

If we were smart enough to stop all the greenhouse gases NOW, spend the three trillion or so that it would take (cheaper than the Iraq war. wheee.), then the climate would still keep getting worse for a few decades. The good news is, the worst wouldn’t be as bad. But what are the chances governments will do anything, let alone enough?
