Friday Nite Lite: Part One

Yo, Sky Dancing Readers of the Apocalypse!

No, I have no idea what that means…at this point the words coming out of my mouth are doing so on their own without help from whatever parts of the brain that regulate speech, or the written word.

So I have some good cartoons for you this evening, so good in fact that I have broken the post into two parts. Guess you will have to come back late tonight to see the rest of ‘em.

The first cartoon tonight is not really new in terms of topic, but it is funny still:

Pirates

I saw one of my favorite movies the other day, Time Bandits…for those of you who know me…you can guess the obvious reasons for my fondness of that film. I guess that is why I found this pirate cartoon funny.

Moving on, to the recent junk food debate:

Ain’t it the truth!

Here is another truthful one, only it is not so funny:

You all know the Sandusky trial is gearing up to be one disgusting show:

This next one is great when you take into account it is by an artist for the Salt Lake City Tribune in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Mormon Moment

Pat Bagley is one of my favorite editorial cartoonist…my other favorite is Mike Luckovich, but he must be on vacation…

I am going to end this post with this tribute to Ray Bradbury by Dave Granlund, I love the reference to the movie “Freaks”…yet another one of my all time favorites, again for obvious reasons:

Be sure to come back tonight, when the cartoons will have a “milking” theme of sorts…see y’all in the comments!

  1. The second course of tonight’s Friday Nite Lite will post around 10:00 PM EST….just FYI.

Apparently I don’t know you since I have no idea to what you are referring. I tried to watch Time Bandits years ago & couldn’t get through it. I’ve never heard of Freaks. I think, however, that we’ve established that our taste in humor is not exactly the same. It’s a generational thing, mostly. I grew up watching Jewish comics on Ed Sullivan. Maybe that’s why I have such an affinity for Jon Stewart. I’m a political humor/satire lover – the Smothers Brothers are my all time favorites.

    • Love the Smothers Brothers myself, and of course anything from the days of Sullivan, Caesar and Benny are my favorites too. No…I have an affinity for little people…midgets, and it is something I have been fascinated by since I was a toddler. But just because the Time Bandits and Freaks have a cast of little people is not the only reason I love those films.

Time Bandits is a part of the whole Monty Python experience, and when you are a medieval history major, you have to also be a fan of Monty Python…it is just a requirement.

Freaks was a movie from back in the thirties, and that film is a cult classic…

There is a scene from that film which is made fun off so many times:

You’ve never heard of Freaks? It’s a cult classic! I’ve seen it JJ!

    Ray Bradbury.

Yes, Ray Bradbury is quite an inspiration to me. I just started re-reading his short stories a week ago when I heard that he died. He left behind quite a body of work to be proud of. I’ve always dreamed of remaking Something Wicked This Way Comes!

Thanks JJ for the great cartoons!

Thanks so much for the cartoons, JJ. I’ve been looking forward to them all day. And more later…wonderful.
